XSPC RS120 Radiator Pressure Drop Testing

Another thanks to Paul from XSPC for sending me a radiator for testing as well. This is a nice radiator and will go perfectly in the roof of my case. Overall very similar in size and fin density as the Swiftech MCR series and HWlabs BIP series, just right for my preferred yate loons as my fan of choice

Anyhow, if you want the full pictures and details..I have a page up with everything here:

    http://www.martinsliquidlab.com/XSPC...or-Review.html

But I'll also give you the executive summary here:

And the results with some "INTERNET BASED" comparisons. I'd love to have tested these all out myself, but I havn't so I'm comparing with what I coudl find and there could be some error here.

Very nice! PA still edges with less restriction, I suspect the thicker radiator section provides that gain, but it does very very well
Do a little price comparsion and you'll see it's very very good!

This should all mean more flow for your blocks where it's needed!

    Cheers!
    Martin

Martin you are the man too prove that once again XSPC breaks the price on watercooling!

    That radiator is almost a give away! ~ 18£ CHEAP o_O , a PA120.1 cost like 45£

Here the XSPC rad beats a BIP

Next time i'm loooking for WC stuf - I'll look for XSPC

Can't wait for you'r upcoming XSPC bay pump test !

    That's perfect thanks!

I've updated my webpages to include that link. I'm also still gathering my thermal testing tools, so eventually I'll have what I need to do the same.

Very interesting... If that one match or beat a MCR120 and is less restrictive, I might be tempted to kick my own MCR120 and replace it with that one to improve flowrate.

No, XSPC and Magicool (EAStar) has nothing to do with each other.
They are competitors and the RS-series is XSPCs own rad design.

wow... I can't help but feel that XSPC is "sponsoring" Martin for some of these reviews.

But all jokes aside, this company is really picking up some speed, I didn't know anything about their products and now I'm seriously considering at least three of theirs, it just goes to show how much influence an educated review can have.

I'll test anything I'm given a sample to test.. Some manufacturers would rather that you didn't know how restrictive something is, and those are the ones I seem to have to borrow to test

But pressure drop testing is pretty emperical, pressure and flow numbers are what they are, I've also been trying to take a picture at 1.5GPM on most of my test to show you the actual readings I'm getting at the critical area. As long as you zero out the manometer after bleeding and before the PSU is fired up, it's pretty hard to mess it up.

In the old days when I was testing with a home made outdoor manometer there was the possibilty of some error using a bucket and stopwatch because if flow varied at all, it would influence the result. Now with my King Instruments meter, the flow is instantaneous so I'm very comfortable with the results. You can also see how accurate the test was by the data points location relative to the trendline plotted. I'm really happy with the accuracy and repeatability now

Here are the actual data numbers collected and trendline on top. It's very easy to see a bad reading as it will be off the line by quite a bit, but ever since I've ugraded to the digital manometer and King Flow rate meter, my results have followed the curve very well.

Just continuing to fullfill my need to tinker. I get a few free parts to add to my collection and you get free results...

oooh this is nice to know, I just bought one of these. Looks pretty much identical to the swifttech ones - same fin spacing etc. apart from the threaded bits instead of grotty moulded barbs. eww.

    martin is very subjective.

if something doesnt show right, he'll make sure we know it.

XSPC is telling us that they are getting there asses in shape with great products. Something any watercooling company who wants to stay in business needs to do.

Yes they are starting to have some nice stuff now. Expecially there new blocks, and there res combo.

Yes, that's what I noticed from them. They probably understood that to stay in business and be competitive, they must listen to what the experts wanted. More competition is always a good thing for us
