Got my e8400 the other day. Its great![]()
I have read alot of different things about degrading of the chip. Some pepole say: dont go over 1.4 vcore, some says 1.45 and some says that 1.5 wouldnt hurt the chip.
I would very much like to have the opinion from someone who Knows what he/she is talking about.
What vcore is safe with a good aircooler?
I get my chip totaly stable with 1.375 (bios) at 4005 mhz and around 1.45 for 4200.
Not the best chip, but Im satisfied with that. Of course I´d like to go higher, but not of the cost of my new chip..

Well nobody knows, nobody knows. If I were you I would stay at 1.375 and 4ghz since you don't really need any more power anyway.
I was testing alittle and noticed that my chip requires only 1.16v running a 3600! And I have it now stable at 3840mhz @ 1.23v. So you can get pretty high with low voltages, 4ghz seems to take more.
Funny, because right at this moment Im experimenting with 3600 myself. Its a good number since 1200 mhz ram speed suits me too. It seems that I need 1.225 vcore (1.192 windows) to get Orthos stable maybe a little more.
You must have a good batch. Is 1.16v your bios or "real" vcore at 3600?

Here in Hong Kong, we have Q807A191.![]()
it depends what kind of apps youre running. With 1200 Mhz ram you get really good mem performance, like read, wright, copy and delay.
But in more cpu demanding apps like gaming I´d say that cpu power is more important than +200 Mhz memory speed. Of course you can also tighten the timiming at 1000 mhz if you got good mems, like 4-4-4-8. Mine must be ran at 5-5-5-15 if you go higher than 1069
I can do a 3dmark06 with the two different settings if you like (kind of curiose myself)
I´ll be back in about 1 hour....![]()

Maybe not the most scentific test, but here are my results in 3dmark06
9858 3DMarks 3600 Mhz And 1200 Mhz Mem 5-5-5-15
10056 3DMarks 4005 Mhz And 1067 Mhz Mem 4-4-4-8
10066 3DMarks 4005 Mhz And 1187 Mhz Mem 5-5-5-15
The answer to your question is: No. If you want to get scores in 3dmark, anyway.

Batch is pretty good but not near the best that have been reported here.
4ghz needs around 1.32v to be stable. And yes it is the real vcore idleing around 1.18 and vdrooping to 1.16 in load, I was quite surprised myself to see it run at so low voltages.
Edit: The batch is Q746A349
