    HD3870 DDR4 vs HD3870 DDR3

    Have one question.

I was planing to try out some crossfire, so i bought a new powercolor 3870 from ebay. Today i recieved it and i see that i got an DDR3 version, and my other powercolor 3870 is DDR4 that i bought earlier this year.
What should i do ? Can i run these together or will it fail.

    DDR4: 1125mhz on memorys
    DDR3: 900mhz on memorys

    Please help me out here.

You can run them together, its basically a overclocked 3850. Was it advertised as DDR3?

you can run a 3870 X2, 3870, and 3850 together for Quad CrossFire if you have three PCI-E slots in your motherboard. ATI's only requirement is that the cards being CF'ed are from the same family. you'll have no problems CrossFiring your two cards.

Okey, the card is advertised as a 3870 DDR3 on powercolors website. Can ther OC a 3850 card and sell it like a 3870 ? Feels like something is wrong here then :/

And " xMrBunglex " nice to hear, but i already ordered one more of the DDR3 version, feels like it´s better not mixing memorys. Maybe it´s harder when it comes to overclocking.

If thats your concern personally i'd sell the GDDR3 and buy another GDDR4. They seem to clock better. I mean it would irk me having paid HD 3870 prices for a clocked HD 3850.
Why is it drug addicts and computer afficionados are both called users?

afaik, Overdrive works fine when you have mixed video cards. i've seen reviews that had a 3850/3870 CF setup and were able to overclock each card individually using Overdrive.

Dont think i can cancel a buy on ebay that i already paid also. I dont think i´ll will notice any difference between DDR3 and DDR4 in stock speeds. But yea when it comes to overclocking the DDR4 will go higher. But CF with stockspeed will kick ass anyway :p .. I´m no hardcore overclockers so, just running on water.

Has anyone seen any reviews of the new 3870 DDR3 cards ? And what i can see the new 3870x2 cards using DDR3 memorys

I would have got a second gddr4 too. You could try claiming you did the bid by accident, or you have a few chances on any ebay account to withdraw you offer, but if you do it more than once you got a black mark by your name.

no need to give him buyer's remorse now that he's already paid for the cards. the two cards you got in CrossFire will still be a beefy video array. i don't think these cards need superfast memory anyway. i run my GPU's overclocked with the VRAM at stock speed because OC'ing my VRAM doesn't seem to make a difference in games anyway.

DDR4 is better of course. But i wouldn't think it would be worth the headache in selling them and buying DDR4 versions, theres not much performance gain from DDR3 to DDR4 in my opinion.
