Has anyone with a GTS soldered to the empty test pad to the left of the red dot with success?

That is OCP (Over Current Protection) not OVP (Over Voltage protection) and one of my customers

How do you know if your card is OCP limited?

With my card I reach 762mhz@1.39v I can turn volts up to 1.47v and not be able to move to the next step (778) in Riva Turner. But I never got a black screen even after 1.4v. I never felt like I was accomplishing anything past 1.39v.

Do I need to do the ovp mod or the ocp limited mod?

well sir, gts ovp hit usually at 1.5++V and ocp even higher than that

so nope i dont think u need it

i'm at 1.49V idle and no ovp or ocp for me. but cap mods do help somewhat. i felt the card was more stable with the added caps

i will post my scores and results soon as well as some pics

add: ovp = up volts in idle till screen hits black... ocp = black screen only under LOAD.

I will hold off on doing those mods. Does adding the caps help reduce vdroop? Pictures will be nice I'm setting my goal at 100k in 3DMark01, so I might need some help I'm in the mid 80s now. I've got a long way to go. Okay 90k will be my first goal

    thank you

I've done my OCP mod few days back, to my surprise it really helps a lot. I used to have problems running my card at over 650MHz core, with the memory clocked past 1050MHz. Using up to 1,5V didn't help, lowering the GPU core temperature by using chilled water didn't help either, the Over Voltage Protection mod posted by Hipro5 did not help, adding caps did not help, ...

But now, with three 1kOhm resistors added I can easily run my card over 700MHz with the memory up to 1100MHz. For my card the OCP mod is more inportant then the OVP mod: http://www.madshrimps.be/vbulletin/f...tml#post165639

Did you use small 1kohm resistors that solder right to the top or side or did use use variable resistors? Do you have a picture? I have seen pics of resistors soldered right to the top or side of the caps. That would be best for me.

    I have an EVGA 640-P2-N829-AR GeForce 8800GTS SSC 640MB 320-bit GDDR3

I soldered them on top of them yes, I didn't use SMD, I used normal size resistors which are not that easily to solder on those small SMD caps.
Don't have the card around at the moment, can't shoot pictures now but I'll post them later on.

I just noticed if I have my core volts at 1.4v I can run 762/1057 with no problems, but if I increase volts upward to 1.47 - 1.49 I can't run at 762/1057 - System freezes.

Would something like this work? I ordered some - I hope they are okay.

    thanks
