nvidia really do need a killer chipset. I'm intrigued about this fastest core2.

One question I have though is that with 680i and probably 780i best benching was done with tight latencies linked and in sync. With this new chipset and it's DDR3 do you still need tight latencies linked and in sync or is it more like Intel chipsets where you go for ultimate Mhz with lax timings ?

I'd like to see a comparison with pifast on both ways to judge, that should translate well to 3dmark.

    Regards

    Andy

Andy, i don't think it makes sense to run DDR3 in sync.

Off course i haven't played with it but i think running a divider is the way to go.
Nvidia always has liked tight timings, remember back in the NF2/Athlon and NF3&4/A64 days when we always thought it was the AMD architecture that prefered tight timings, opposed to Intel.

Looking back on it i think it was the Nvidia chipset that liked the tight timings instead of the AMD architecture, so i assume this one won't be any different.

Actually on 790iSLI DDR3 SYNC isn't a bad way to go anymore when you get the FSB up high 450+. It's nice to have option though if there are FSB issues you can always get the mem up to speed.
For me ultimately its about what I can do on LN2 on this chipset.
So far this chipset is looking KILLER on LN2. Havent seen any of the cold/fsb issues that I saw on 780i.
How about cpu only at 5700mhz on 790iSLI with 8800GTS's still on air and close to 29,000 2006 LOL . Check out the FSB so far on LN2..

Holy Hell!!! Well, I think I know what I am spending my nickels and dimes on next. Can you mention who made the test board? It looks like one hell of a keeper.

What kind of impact will running the ram unlinked have on your 06 score?

how would you search the ORB anyways for dual cores when all these are still labelled as Pentium III

btw if you look at HWBOT there are certainly dual cores running at higher frequencies (E8500 chips though)

I've suddenly realised I know nothing about these new fangled DDR3, chipsets and quad cpu's I am so far behind ( like 1998).

Just call me grandad. Feck me, all these insane numbers, it's just another world.

Test it with 8400GS in 2001 and I might have an idea

    It's like another planet......

i'd be surprised if the results change at all with 8400GS andy

in '01 you're looking at 100-150 points jumps every 500Mhz on CPU

Heh, heh, heh......It's NICE to see you playing with new stuff my friend...

Problem right now is that 2 x 3870x2 rock in every bench exept 2k1...

When I finish moding them so to feed them by 4 of my DDR Maximizers (their VGPU circuit is not that powerfull), they will fly....

    Whats up with that man??
What happened to the 2900xt's?? Did you give up on that rig already??
I still want to see the 31k with 2900xt's...please post it up so I can bench for it on two GTS's. That is the only score I care about beating brother, I dont even see these AMD quad-results...do you not think NVIDIA will have quad cards very soon too ??

This was to generate some buzz. Many more tests when the board launches

I have tested three 790i's now and every single one of them hit 460-470fsb with quad. I think you will be very pleased with it.

Performance is awesome but so is the price unfortunenately.

Add another €300 for some good DDR3 and another €300 for a second videocard.
