Looks to be identical to a good Q746 e8400. Somehow I think I'd rather take a chance on one of these if I couldn't know the batch# beforehand.

Thanks for posting the info and pics!

The caps Reefa_Madness highlighted in red. The xeon, supposedly the one on the left, doesn't have the caps that the 8500 has on the right. That leaves one wondering whether that's the difference between the chip operating as an 8500 or xeon. If that's the case, people can pull off those caps and get the ioat feature xeons have. But it's speculation until someone risks their 8500 to find out.

Are you serious or you just trying to be funny

Actually it just the angle and lighting...when I took that pic.

Heres...all those caps and do not pull those out because it will kill any 8500

seems like the first shot was an optical illusion then for me too

as far as i know there should be no difference besides the fact they bin Xeon chips harder (what someone told me)

    It just misunderstanding Dinos

    All cool

Anyway, as usual max. fsb with ddr2 and X38 is 550ish and it seems to hate voltages

With SS..Its like pulling teeth to go 5GHZ....It just a hot chip

In the other hand, this might be a gem under -70C and colder pot

i was just talking to a fellow aussie about our week 45 chips
the one i benched on sunday at 5.7GHz 1.73v

this chip is friggin hot man............i am talking about idling at stock settings at like 45C in bios LOL (TTBT+100CFM fan at full blast 24C ambient) hahahah

it really struggles like your on single stage because it's too hot

but LN2 is a different story as long as the pot has good mass and volts are not too high

The max temperature for the E8500 is 1.225 while the E3110 is 1.25. I thought the E3110 should have lower max voltage rating than the E8xxx series.

So with all this info out there,

if you could have one of these chips E8400 or Xeon E3110 price no object

and your a gamer/OCer that also uses it for your 24/7 workstation/playstation.

Is there one that is the better choice, or is it to close to call and some kind of personal choice bullchit?

This was the answer I was looking for... I'm planning an upgrade to E8400/E3110 and I wasn't sure about Xeon compatibility with my Maximus...

    Many thanks :>

Nice low AUTO vcore at 1.152v in bios with Coretemp VID = 1.0875v. So I set bios vcore to lowest available option = 1.1v for 1.056v idle/1.048v load with Loadline Calibration disabled.

Realtemps shows Coretemp is over reporting temps by 7-10C

Very promising cpu as the low vcore end

    3207Mhz at 1.048v load

    3300Mhz at 1.048v load

Do you need special bioses to make it work on mobos that do not officially support it?
