    Making an 8800GTX into a Quadro FX4600

I bought an 8800GTX about a year ago. However now I do little gaming and a lot of CAD work. My 8800GTX performs poorly on CATIA compared to the CAD computers I have used that have nothing more than a Quadro FX550, dual core Woodcrest, and 2GB of ram.

I suspect this has to do with the drivers. Has anyone had any success turning a 8800GTX or any other GeForce into a Quadro card via BIOS flash, registry edits, or driver tweaks?

A medium size CATIA file on the CAD computer with the Quadro FX550 can spin around all dandy, however files half the size lag and jump on my PC.

CATIA, my primary CAD program is OpenGL.

    Thanks

You can use Nibitor and flash the bios just fine and it will work well. Get the source bios from mvktech...

Quadro and gaming cards are different. If you flash the 8800GTX with the Quadro bios you will have a nice paperweight. Bad advice raptor.........

Raptor is correct. I do bios editing all the time for video cards and the only difference inbetween the 8800 GTX and the Quadro is different coding so one would be far better at designing programs. The 8800 bios is meant for games, Just like you can flash a 8800 GTX into a 8800 Ultra without problems.

PS. You just have to pickup the right Quadro bios to make your 8800 GTX into a Quadro.

So what happens if the flash goes bad?

    Recoverable? Or paperweight.

blind flash or boot to a pci card and re-flash. low chance of causing irreversable damage.W1zzard has posted some guides at TPU.

That would be cool you could flash the BIOS according to whether you were gaming or running CAD or some other 3D app. I haven't done this since the Quadro2 days lol. I found this on MKVtech

Yes, but what's the point in doing that? You can if you know that your cards can do Ultra core, shader and memory speeds. Other than slightly relaxed timings (which gain you maybe 5-10MHz memory clock) there's no point really.

no you can't, not unless you have a good batch of gtxs that have the samsung memory, the ultra and gtx pcbs are slightly different because of the different memory (and something else, though I can't remember off the top of my head).

But quadros on the other hand use the same ol' cheap memory because what cad guy is going to be ocing his card?

I designed the GTX-> Ultra bios, aka the GXU bios.

There is nothing different, the Ultra is just ran at higher clocks on the memory since its better memory, nothing else. the PCB are spot on with each other, the only difference i had to make in the bios was the volts. Since some reason, Leaving them be made the card burn up even tho it didn't effect the true volts. So I had to drop them to GTX levels.

Do you think it would be possible to edit firegl bios so I can use crossfire with my firegl card? Also do you think there is a way I could convert a 3870 to a firegl card...I currently have a firegl v5600 And want to upgrade but dont want to pay the 3 grand to do it...Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I ask since I noticed you edit vid card bios.
