It's pretty obvious Gigabyte aint binning the cores, they only slap the Hynix mems on there (actually downbinned 1.0ns chips) and change a few caps to lower the costs, this is a classic product differentiation to meet the market.
I had a hunch about this when I saw that the Ultra Durable design was the same on both 3850 and 3870.
I get a little bit lower stable clocks on the memory with this bios than with the original one...a 2.0v mod on the memory should solve that.
They do not run hot at all @ 950MHz, barely warm actually..so I'm pretty confident they will perform as 1.0ns versions when given their rated voltage.
I'm going to grab a couple of trim pots and do some proper mods instead of pencilmods next weekend.
