I mean I know you are older then me and have been around a bit, but damn. That is food education abroad. Sign me up!

I haven't gotten to Middle Eastern food, or South Asian food, or Scandinavian food... there's lots of ground to cover...

I grew up loving all kinds of food from all cultures. It doesn't take years of experience to figure out what you like. It just takes an open mind. Every kid should read Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss rofl Food was a big thing growing up.

I would bring my brother to KFC (he's 12 years younger) when he was 10 years old, and he would finish a family meal by himself... eight pieces plus two large sides plus three biscuits... plus two large drinks. As for me, when I was ten, I would take a whole de-necked unskinned chicken and cook it the way it is, roast it, and finish it. When I was seven years old, I finished a Big Mac, a Quarter Pounder with Cheese, large fries, a large Chocolate shake, apple pie and hot fudge sundae. That was in Asia. So much for the American junk food fat stereotypes

Another problem is that I was always a geeky dork growing up. In college, I had my fair share of first dates... lots of them.. but no second dates

When I left college, I had to find a proper strategery of getting hot dates lol Food.... good food... fine food... lots of chix

Best real pizza in the world don't be coming from America!

Some pictures of Italian pizza... not the slathered tomato sauce crap served in America. Eat real pizza and you wouldn't want to eat crap pizza ever again.

*Runs off to find a metriperial conversion chart...*

Yankee - thats cause the good places are all hidden.

Angus steak houses are overpriced and the quality is shockingly bad compared to somewhere like Outback and Old Orleans.

Soho is where the good restaurants are at....Soho Pizzeria on Beak street for italian style (non-commercial) pizza, Wardour Street for every kind of Oriental Food going...

Have you had a Chicken Doner Kebab yet? If not - next time you're in London, get on the Piccadilly Line and get off at Southgate. Right opposite the station theres 'The Charcoal Grill Kebab House'

Go in there and ask for a Chicken Doner with Salad and a side of Homous and ask if you can eat in...

If you can finish everything they bring you, they'll respect you

When I was a kid, if I ate more then then 4-5 pieces of KFC, later that night I would seriously regret my consumption of all that greasy chicken.

It makes sense, Kai. How many mom and pop places have the dough to put a place in pall mall or picadilly?

    ...and outback...

Gourmet 'Italian' pizza is great. But everything in America, especially pizza in Chicago, is not "crap". Furthermore, living in a large and very diverse city such as I do, I don't have to get on a plane to experience food exactly like the pictures you posted.

I realize you're an experienced "foodie" but give me a break...

Outback over there is apparrently a lot different than over here...dunno why, probably because almost everything thats artificial thats used there, is banned here.

As for KFC - i can beat all of you. I used to get the Mega Bucket - which was 10 pieces of chicken (i'd make sure they were all legs), large popcorn chicken, hot wings and a tub of coleslaw. I could demolish it all in under an hour

Actually the best pizza in the United States is this place: http://www.pizzeriabianco.com/

No joke, top rated in the United States and a contender for the world.

[Edit:]I suppose I should quantify my response.

Yep - we get quite a lot of the big chains as you....i even remember a dubious flirtation with nuclear fission reactors....sorry scratch that, been watching too much trek today

What i meant to say is i remember a dubious flirtation with the introduction of both Taco Bell and Wendy's...both of which fell flat on their face. In 1991 british society had only just adjusted to McDonalds, and Taco's were a step too far, seeing as we have almost NO experience of what actual mexican food tastes like. Wendy's was the same, they just never had any repeat business. Square burgers? Far too wierd for us.

I just had McDonald's for lunch today. It was just plain disgusting.

I ate what was supposed to be their premium sandwich.. Angus Third Pound... it was dry and the juicy fat content was missing from the patty.. sounds like someone ran that sucker throughthe microwave ten times. A rubber tire would have been more tender. You could throw it against the wall and it will bounce back and smack you in the ass.

The fries were hot out of the fryer but were bland... vegetable oil... give me the animal lard!! The fries had no taste.

Coke is supposed to be coke all around the world, but my Coke tasted flat and icky... not that I have tasted urine, but that's probably what urine tastes like.

I decided that my ass needed more fat, so I asked for a hot fudge sundae. I had to order in Spanish because the cashier had no idea what hot fudge was. And then I asked for nuts, and she said .. its either fudge or nuts... so I raised Cain and embarrassed the manager.

It was the most pleasant experience indeed!

Gimme the fat and the lard!! When I ask for ice cream, don't give me frozen yogurt!!

Thankfully our fast food outlets haven't sunk low enough so we have to learn another language in order to order the food we want.

Well, there are enough employees that are polish, but i refuse to bow down and speak someone elses language on my home turf. I do what all brits do abroad and SPEAK SLOWER AND LOUDER. If that fails i swear at them and go take my business elsewhere...

And the last time i saw a Wimpy's was in 1988....i had my 6th birthday party in one in West Drayton...i got a cricket bat

As for Wendy's, the 99c Jr Cheese Burger with bacon (have to ask for it) is a tasty snack, I mean its small, but comes with lettuce, tomato, cheesy, bacon, mayo and I add ketchup. Its 1.06 with tax, so I don't feel guilty for eating it, can get them @ any Wendy's here in the us as far as I know.
