Hmm, using the previous bios my E8400 did not change vid with a multiplier change. I'll try it with this bios later today tho.

I hear you man. It's a shame too because if problems are brought to light, others can avoid them. Or if there are no real problems, then everyone can decode the mystery if they happen to encounter it.
It's also difficult to discuss the way a board handles a chip because there are so many boards in use on this thread. But then again, I got the sense that I better not discuss chip problems in the thread for the board. Seems like a big no-no. Obviously board makers want to assure you that it's the chip and only the chip causing this behavior. They may be right, but I think it's fair to explore the possibility that there are other elements involved.

Haha, I sometimes totally forget to CPU validate. I get my Pi screen or whatever, save it and reboot.
Sweet score man. What was the memory you used for that? And the voltage on the ram.
I got 9.98 with a similar clock but at 8.5x545. I think I could get a better score with your ram.

Thanks guys
The mem is the stuff in my sig, ( 650/700MHz club links) It's 2x512MB PC5300 TeamX. I've got it to run 1M at 700MHz before. IIRC for that run in the SS it was 2.45v or 2.5v. Not only did I not validate it, before the run I didn't lower any subtimings, I think I could have got my 1st sub 10 run if I had of. No .5 multi's on DS3P unfortunatly.
It was done with a Zalman 9700 too, so it was pretty scary.
Heres an E8400 overclock I just tested overnight and during the day

You guys have good E8400's and looks like most of them hits 4.3-4.4Ghz stable on low volts too
Intel Inside
Just a heads up my VID reads at 1.050v, but after testing diff voltages in bios and comparing to the stock volt setting my actual stock vcore ends up being 1.125v setting in BIOS.
Why won't my DFI T2R just say what it is in bios...
Anyway, I tested by leaving DEFAULT in bios and seeing what CPU-Z reads... then I tried a few manual voltage settings in BIOS until CPU-Z read the same value.
So what's up with VID being read incorrectly?
Also, here my batch code and pretty much what my e8400 does:
Q745A741
D-Tek Fuzion custom mount, bix2 rad, 2xDeltas, D5 pump, Liquid Metal TIM
440x9=3960mhz @ 1.400vcore for SPi 32M stability
I tried pumping up to 1.425vcore and couldn't even do 441fsb (1 notch higher). My board ran 24/7 520fsb 3640mhz with my e6400 for a couple months, so I don't think it's the board.
I have another e8400 on the way that has benched 4.5ghz so I'll report back when that gets here.
Has anyone else had a chip that can't hit 4ghz? Raising volts has not helped me in any way. CPU-Z reads 1.456v right now and still I'm hitting a wall at 3960mhz.
Does raising any other voltages help much? I've tried raising VTT, NB and SB up a notch and it made no difference, but I'm wondering if they need to be raised more (don't know safe voltages and which are actually helpful).
I did disable vdroop and gained about 40mhz on the CPU at 1.400vcore.

@ gOdM@n,What divider are you running the ram at?
I have my E3110 up and running now,1.28vbios,1.29v SG, and 1.26x Load. 9x450 so far with a short Orthos small fft for 10 minutes. Just testing short bursts for stability then will run Orthos/OCCT tonight. She runs Hot, 44/37 idle, 53/53 Load. Vid is 0.9875v
More testing in progress, so far it is better then my E8400.

Just to be on the safe side I'm running 1:1 at loose timings of 5-5-5-18. Ram is 2x1gb Ballistix tracers ddr2-1000 @ 2.2vdimm. It's actually running like 880-900mhz on the ram, so that shouldn't be the problem... but then again, any advice is appreciated. Any other volts I should be messing with? I have adequate cooling... water... and big fans.

I haven't had a chip that wouldn't run 4GHz but I have found a few that either run hot on low voltage or cool on high voltage.
My E8200 needed 1.475v in the bios to prime 4GHz yet it runs cooler than any of the E8400 & E8500's I've tested & they typically run 1.3~1.35v for 4GHz.

Goodman, how high have you had the vcore? Also, did you get this chip from someone else or was it like this out of the box?
I know it seems like you can't get high fsb but did you try 8x500 at all? How about GTLs auto or set manually?
g0dm@n - could just be a ty chip. Just really odd that it requires 1.4vcore (just for SPI), and still not over 4Ghz.
Don't see if you mentioned, but what BIOS are you on? Not sure if it'll make a big diff though.

Has anyone tried priming with 10k FFT length?
It put's the most stress on my cpu. If my overclock is not stable the 10k fft's
will let me know within 5 minuts or less while 1024k's and 8k's will prime for
hours. Can you guy's try it? Im just curious if this is common on wolfdales.
