So I guess it's just as morally acceptable to force cats and dogs to live in cramped squalor before you butcher them as it is for giant poultry plants here to marginalize their livestock into horrid living conditions? I see no fewer than 9 cats in that tiny cage, and somehow it's not cruel or unusual to them? Tolerance of other cultures is one thing, but accepting blatant animal cruelty is another. I'm not saying we're any better here with chickens, cattle and pigs, but come on...

Totally agree on that for all animals kept and transported for eating. It's like that meat recall in the USA where the cows could not even stand before being slaughtered. In the UK we transport some animals a long way in poor conditions etc etc etc.

I like meat but I think we all need to clean up our act on how we treat this "commodity" before it goes towards our wellbeing.

Getting back to food I think that cheese soup would be nice with some Stilton and friend onions as well. Perhaps a dash of lea and Perrins on top.

OK. I must admit I have tried two of these foods. The "bird's nest soup" is positively delicious and an extreme delicacy in Chinese culture. I've also had Fugu fish, but I found it kind of bland and uninteresting, especially when eaten as sashimi.

Yeah.. as though you Europeans have a monopoly on good taste.... Cazu Marzu (maggot cheese)... calf's brain... escargot (snails)... foie gras (goose liver).. {ahem} shepherd's pie black perigord truffles sniffed out by pigs who just sniffed their own poop and the farmer's can't tell the mushrooms from the poop.

Foie Gras is lovely....and whats wrong with shepherd pie? Its just minced beef/lamb with gravy, topped with mashed potato!

I loved my moms Shepherds Pie, some how she always managed to get the potatoes on top crispy.

We're definitely not and it's rather disturbing...but still. I just look at a dog differently than a chicken, or a cow. It's something more than a cultural thing...idk...

And as for rats I tangle with those disgusting, diseased beasts in my alley far too often. Served up on a plate? Hmm going vegan suddenly seems tolerable

I made Veggie Chili last week, then a Casserole the next night, tonight its meatloaf and mashed potatoes (hand sliced, boiled potatoes with some milk and butter whipped up with a little garlic, also with green beens (not the from a can kind either).

Just yesterday, I had filet de boeuf en croute à la périgourdine (that's black truffles on top of beef wellington in layman's terms). I had foie gras-roquefort napoleons with a frisee salad to start. I didn't have escargots yesterday, but I have eaten more than my fair share over almost five decades and it shows around my waistline.

Beef Wellington is essentially a classic beef stew encrusted with puff pastry, a lot like an American classic chicken pot pie. The Brits (in higher society) take it ten steps further with the tenderloin wrapped in foie gras pate, typically served with asparagus. Otherwise, its a pretty common dish in the UK. They also have sausage Wellington or salmon Wellington, just not served in Buckingham Palace rofl

The French take it to a higher level though. Of course, its filet mignon, then butter puff pastry, bordeaux wine sauce and then black truffle shavings on top.

Sometimes, the Chinese take it way too far, with the same dish but with seafood around the plate rofl

it sounds appealing, but the visual here, (damn changed the pic lol), though I would give it a shot.

I will try almost any food once, so I can say if I like it or not.

I heard a guy the other day talking about how he wanted to try brown roaches, and that other cultures eat them, and given the area I grew up in, and some of the houses I have been in when I used to clean out houses after people moved.....................

Sorry...............but those things do not bring the thought of edible and delicious to mind, very much quite the opposite.
