the new quads will benefit from ddr3 but the price is WAY too high. the cheapest i've found ddr3 yet is $239 for a 2x1gig set of g.skill 1333mhz 6-6-6-18 kit. you could get 4 to 8gig's of ddr2 for that price.

asus and nvidia chipsets don't seem to work well together. asus makes some damn good intel chipset boards though.

but soon everything will be ddr3 and they will slowly become affordable just like ddr2 has become.

By the time that happens we'll be on Nforce 8 or Nforce 9 motherboards.

I'm sorry i put in the wrong Voltage. Its 1.4. I dont have 1.5 either. I was reading from some notes i took off another thread somewhere. I remember now that i didnt have the suggested 1.5 either. That must be off another board.

EDIT: I got that voltage from the first page of this thread.

GAR? Is the 1.5cpu/fsb from the original bios?

    On another note.
Has anyone tried the EVGA 780i driver update? I tried it the first day i got this board and i lost everything and had to reinstall my os. Not sure what happened there. Any suggestions?

Anyone know why my cpu core voltage won't go above 1.36? I can set it higher, but it always shows 1.36 in the Current Value column when I go back into Bios.

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about.

    yup.

i wouldn't think many people could get much past 4ghz on the q9450 though. that would require 500x8 to do 4ghz. most boards start hitting their limit around the 480-520 mark. we'll see though.

but think about it. to even conceive the thought that 4ghz might be possible on air is just crazy. but whats even more crazy is that it just might be possible

dumb question but you are saving your changes with f10 right?
Yes. In that picture I've entered the voltage settings, but haven't touched a thing. That voltage in the left column is saved.

Ok, it's going up when I increase the voltage. It just stuck at 1.36 twice in a row. Why doesn't it match what I input?

March 11th is also what i've heard. I think it is a good upgrade but not from a 780i as the price for DDR3 and performance increase just arent worth it... just think... it may have higher bandwidth but still has slower timings.

I agree... a new 45nm quad may not be that overclockable on a 780i but on a 790i where the fsb is 1800 vs. 1333 it may be very easy to achieve 4.0+

March should be an interesting month. I do however think that it wouldnt be a wise choice for us middle classers to upgrade from 780i to 790i and am disgusted to see anyone burn money like that... DDR2 is still the best choice but the FSB increase is a nice upgrade.

well you can always keep raising the voltage until the factory installed smoke comes out and then it will perform really good
