    Hello folks!

I own a Asus Maximus Formula SE and it worked perfect for 2 months now. I overclocked my E6600 to 3,3 Ghz and used OCZ titanium alpha memory with nearly 1000 Mhz@ 2.3 Volts. VGA Card was a HD3870.

Then I exchanged the HD3870 with a 3870 X2...worked fine for 2 weeks until my board began to hang with the LCD poster "DET RAM"....i thought, well OK...one stick died. Indeed it did, one stick worked perfectly. After replacing the memory sticks, suddenly the 3870 X2 began to suck. The computer was booting normal, but the vga card didnt give a signal to my display and it remained black....the fan was crying at full speed *RESET*....same stuff....*REST* same stuff. After some CLEAR CMOS actions, it started but no overclocking possible. each restart ended in black screen, computer booting....WTF?!?! I also received 2 blue screens after start up something with memory vga card and ativdag....OK, enough B.S. with this stuff. Why did i buy this vga card?!?!?

Well, now its sold on Ebay and now using a 7950GT temporarily ;./ Changing to 780i Chipset now with 2 8800 GTX....

And now one final question: WTF is the southbridge so hot?!?!?!?! damn...im using watercooling and down there a fire is almost burning...

Anyone has or has had similar problems???

    greetings

I think the SB is so hot because it is connected to the NB. The NB sends it's extra heat to the SB via the heat-pipe.

Well you will have a harder time fighting the 780i then the X38 : wish you all the best Kloss...

First up did you run the ram at 2.3 volts set in bios or 2.3 volts readout by eg Everest ? Secondly was the ram extra cooled ?

I have my NB hooked up to my WC loop , NB get's around 45°C , SB is at 48°C at with 400FSB, NB at 1.47 volts and SB 1.5... under full load

Without the WC the NB would go all the way up to 62°C and SB around 65°C... and yes I removed the Asus TIM and replaced it with arctic ceramique...

Secondly don't forget the ATI cards pump out loads of heat on top of the card... I don't have an 3870X2 but the 3850 and 70 cards are pretty hot... not helping ya temps either...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

I think the south-bridge is so hot because it's not a metal chip, it has that cheap black plastic top. I have an MCW30 on it (which is why I cut the heat-pipe to it) and it still loads to 37*. I guess it wasn't worth re-doing my loop and voiding the warrenty to get a 1* drop in the SB

Thanks for the Tip. I want to exchange the thermal grease with arctic silver 5, the only one i have here...would help for sure as i read it everywhere.

On the other hand im completely satisfied with the mainboard but i think another good BIOS could fix some problems. The overclocking features are really crazy. I dont even know what most of these voltages names are...but with cpu level up and manual fsb the board runs like hell.

i gave the memory manually a voltage of 2.30V. It is certified to run at 2.3V but i think the Asus overvolts too much....now i'm running 3,3 GHZ again with 4-4-4-15 timings and something of 900mhz memory without any changes to voltage. seems that cpu level up can do the job himself.

anyway i want a sli system now, i have enough of ATI driver problems and blinking screens and that typical ATI stuff. I should have kept my HD3870, i sure miss it and regret the 3870 X2 purchase

Well then I should back down the voltage of the DIMM. 2.30v @ bios is like 2.36-2.38V real......

    Any changelog there ?

Edited: Flashed the bios... didn't post afterwards had to pop the battery... besides the extra TRFC options still no 4:5 boot for me... CPU PLL and Ram voltage still overvolts... FSB undervolts... no temp changes on the qx9650, CPU still idles at 15°C and loads at 25°C....tralalalala ...

Comon Asus there's more work here !!

I put a 4cm fan on my SB and it posts at 30, rarely gets over 34. Threw and Antec Cool Spot over my NB and it posts around 39-40 (doesn't go over 44). Didn't re-seat etc, took the lazy way, but seems to be doing the job. Those temps are at 3.6ghz (8x450).

    Are my volts ok?

    Hi guys,

After looking at my voltages in Everest Ultimate, I have now lowered my DRAM voltage to 1.94 volts as beforehand BIOS was showing me at 1.9v but Everest was showing 2.1 Everything is still stable but can you see or advise on any other voltage adjusments as I understand the maximus is known for overvolting?

Plz QX9650 guys do NOT try the 1003 bios, it's a total waste of time... luckily I was able to reflash to 0907 via EZ flash...

    Issues :

    1) Couldn't touch the multi ( up nor down ) resulted in a no post... had to pop battery to bring it back to life, Cmos reset didn't work

    2) 400FSB doesn't post with my Qx9650, 450 does but not being able to get it stable with even higher voltages then my 0907 settings...

    3) Vcore didn't change for me once above 1.4volts( bios setting)-- stayed put here at 1.375 (only tried up to 1.45 in bios)...

    4) Messed with the TRFC options too but that didn't help in letting her post and be stable in windows...

    PLZ REMOVE IT ASAP !!

Will I get a better OC at a lower voltage if I use load-line calibration? Some say it's good and some say it's bad. Right now I have it on, could I get a lower true voltage at load if I turn it off?

yeah warboy, i remember... actually, it was your settings that helped me achieve the same. and kup, i remember you getting high too. it doesn't seem that anybody has achieved 4.0 and stable on just water cooling yet. i'm still running the 802 bios, the 9xx didn't work for crap on my system. i couldn't get any high clocks stable. 3.9 is great, but that 4.x mark just looks so sexy

Well when I get the LS hooked up, I'll be trying for 4.2GHz+ 24/7 stable, so I'll keep you guys up to date on whether the board can actually do it or not...

My only issues are the recent BIOS reflash gone bad so I guess I'm the only one on the 4 forums I read, cause nobody sames to experienced it yet. Well good luck to them if they havent though.

Oh well, I guess if I get time to set up an RAM I'll get a new eprom.
