First, I recommend only running 2 dimms for a few reasons, 1) voltage, 4 dimms take twice as much power as two dimms, 2) stability, apparently DDR2-800 support is touchy on this board with 4 dimms installed, you may have to select DDR2-667 to make all 4 work properly. Also the fact this board selects 1.8v automatically, this may be below the requirements for your RAM.

Personally i bought the cheapest 4GB kit i could find, the G.Skill F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ, which is not listed in the compatibility list, but i've had absolutely no issues with it. This ram easily hit 1066MHz at 5-5-5-15 1.8v, and currently runs 800MHz at 4-4-4-10 1.8v. (Never had any boot issues with this kit)

My only "goal" with this Pentium D was to hit 266MHz FSB, which it did just fine at 1.175vCore (50mV below stock), for a total of 4258MHz. However, I'm still using the stock Intel HSF, so I'm currently running this processor at 3.2GHz, 1.100vCore, which remains nice and cool. I -may- be able to go lower, but I haven't bothered to try, nor have I bothered to try going above 266MHz FSB, although I may attempt higher FSB clocks once I invest in aftermarket cooling.

The best advice I can provide is to follow the accumulated information within this thread, most importantly, I think, is to enable LLC (Line-Load Conditioning), which all-but-eliminates vDrop between BIOS and Windows. I can say my current setup does not budge from 1.100v with LLC enabled, at idle or full load. I would also follow the advice CrazyNutz provides in this thread, but adjust accordingly since you have a Pentium and not a Core 2.

    Good luck,

I also have 2x G.Skill F2-6400CL5D-2GBPQ with c2d e4400. With bios 0603 i could OC it to 333*9 and it worked fine. But if i changed any settings for memory windows won't even boot (even if i raised voltage). So i had to leave it to 400MHz and 5-5-5-15 2T. Then (stupid me) upgraded bios to version 0906 and if i change any settings for processor/memory I'm getting bluescreens at windows all the time so I must run at default clocks (seems like i cannot go back to older bios). I just bought e8400, hope it will work better but I'm really disapointted with g.skill and this bios mess. Any ideas?

Yes, you can downgrade your BIOS. It's somewhere in the options of the AsusUpdate program.
edit: but are you sure there's nothing wrong with your memory? I'd suggest running MemTest for a while, just to be sure that this is not the problem.

Both my (newly bought) memory sticks were giving errors. After I replaced them, everything went fine.

I recall AsusUpdate saying that you need to use DOS to downgrade to older BIOS version.. since the bios rom exceeds the capacity of a floppy, you may have to make a DOS bootable cdrom or USB thumb, and include the bios rom and flash utility.

However, I would recommend trying the beta BIOS first.. i'm using 1006 right now and have no issues setting the DRAM timings. I've never had 1T Command Rate stable, with any BIOS I've tried though.

What FSB strap setting are you using? maybe try running 333MHz FSB, with Strap set to 200MHz, then test each DRAM Frequency setting until you find the highest one that works stable. You might even try running your FSB at 400MHz and strap at either 200 or 400, if your cpu can go that high.

An update to my situation... The problem turned out to be the motherboard after cross-checking all my components on another computer. Although I got it to FINALLY post after swapping the ram out with some cheap ddr2 ram, the problems didn't end there... Once I got it to post, I flashed the bios to 1004 and changed the ram voltage to 2.2v thinking that this would solve my problem, but the post/no post ratio was still absolutely ridiculous in the end. I've read about other people having the exact same problem with this board where the motherboard just randomly fails to post (check Asus forums). I gotta say, this was one of the most tedious, frustrating experiences I've ever had with a mobo. I'll gladly be returning this mobo, but haven't decided if I'd be willing to give Asus another shot. If the problem I was having was unique to me, then I'd just consider it a bad board and have no hesitation getting another P5K-E. But since the problem seems to be somewhat widespread and Asus hasn't done a thing to fix it, I don't know if it's even worth it to try another P5K-E.

On a side note, has anyone with the blue box P5K-E and/or rev 1.01/1.02 run into the same problem I've had? I'm wondering if the problem is just related to the older rev 1.00/black box boards.

    First post!!

Hi to all Xtremesystems forum Users!

    I couldnt get a hold of e8400 so I bought an e8200 and a 2x2gb Patriot kit, rated 800mhz cl4 2.2v and the p5k-e.
I am currently running@3800, fsb475 1.35v in bios (1.304 stress) and 2.2v on ram 15-5-5-5(autodetect on all other settings) @ 975. I am using Thermaltake Ultra-120. The temps get to 46c, about 26c idle (numbers in pink in the taskbar are the core1/2/cpu temps). I tried running it at 500fsb with higher voltage but couldnt get it stable.

I only changed a few settings in BIOS to keep the config stable.
    fsb 475 (ram@951), vcore 1.3500, vdram 2.2v and that's about it!
All the other settings I left on auto.

Here's a screenshot from me remoting to my home machine from work. Orthos was @ 16hrs then.
I stopped it after 22hrs when I came back home. Running Vista Ultimate x64. Havent fiddled with the gfx just yet but I'm planning to do it

    What do you think?
    Any room for improvement here?
Any experiences with those Patriot LLK 800 CL4 ram sticks?
Anyone running a similar setup at higher speeds orthos stable?
A response would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.
