Hm, my 1st is back from rma... now what to do. Slap it in, or wait for DFI? Should get one early next week... I tend to wait, since I need to insulate the socket and stuff now.

    Hi m8,
I'd stick with the quadgt or go with the DFI. The only Mars I'd have is the chocolate bar . It';s awell made board but the bios voltahes are too coarse, like my p5k before it, have been able to do all kinds of clocks but >3.6k , very few are that stable.

    Waiting for the X38 T2R (DDR2 Model)
I'm hoping it will endure my Quad's excessive power needs better than my two dead IX38...

difference between IX38 and DFI LT X38 is going from 5 phase digital PWM to 8 phase digital PWM...there is a better heatsink on the DFI PWM but you are going to remove that anyway

    You bet I will
Plus it won't get any chance of running hot around the CPU socket because of the evap keeping things cool

Still testing higher fsb but I think this is about the limit for the board, not the chip .

    Abit Quadgt
    Q6600 go L744B
    G.skill 2x2gb pc8000

water cooled - best 24/7 setting, needs alot of Vnb to stay stable at 514 1.77v in bios

    cpu - 1.42v
    mem - 2.1v
    mch - 1.77v
    ichio - 1.61v
    cpuvtt - 1.37v
    ich - 1.37v

I'm thinking about doing the Vdrop/droop Vmod for this board. My question is what can I expect to see if I do do it?

right now I set 1.42 in bios for abut 1.37 actual or 1.64 bios for about 1.56 actual.

what can I expect if I do the Vmod? If I set 1.6 bios will it actually be 1.6 underload?

I see that if I use an USB keybord there are no freez in BIOS. Why can't I OC my CPU more ? 334(Mhz-FSB)x9=3ghz and 1,5V. What voltage should I raise to achive 3,6Ghz ?
I have the last official BIOS.

you should post all your voltages that you have set in the bios or post a picture of "OC Uguru" settings so we can make some suggestions

How bad is the Vdroop with wolfdale cpus? Wouldn't running high volts at idle damage the chip?

i would say 1300 mhz overclock is doing very good for yourself.

try higher MCH and ICHIO 1.5 for a higher overclock and maybe Vdimm to 2.1v

Cant get 500 FSB stable on this board. Should this board go that or?

I have tried voltages up to

    MCH 1.50
    CPU VTT 1.30

    Other voltages are

    Vcore 1.3375
    ICH 1.10
    DDR2 2.050 (Had them @ 2.2v when testing 500 FSB)

I had the mems @ 1000 with a divider testing how far they would go. Well They didn't go much over 1000 but atleast 1000 worked. So it shouldn't be a memory issue. Also I have the system stable now @ 9*450 with that vcore and when I tried 500 FSB I had it at 8*500, so it should not be too little vcore either.

    Specs:

    Abit IX38 QuadGT, Bios 12
    E8400
    Gskill 2x2GB F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ
    2x 3870
    600w PSU

If you look a few posts up you will see my q6600 1hr blend prime stable at 514fsb, which did turn out to stay stable. So to answer your question yes it can run 500+. I would try with higher mch. It takes mine about 1.6v for 500 to be fully stable with my q6600. I dont know if quads tend to need more for 500 then a dual core or not. Even with 1.75v on my mch it stays a cool 43c at full load but for some reason I think its bugged, that is what the probe says though. Try a higher mch

I tried to see when it starts to give me problems. It seems to work quite well up to 490 atleast, didn't even up the MCH from 1.30! When I tried 500 it ran for a couple of seconds .

I have one of these motherboards on the way. After waiting 3 weeks and some negotiating with Komplett I got them to replace the IP35 Pro with the IX38 Quad GT because they are out of stock with the IP35 Pro and they down know when they will have it in stock agaiin. So I should have an IX38 this time next week.

How can OS affect that in any way? It cant be OS related.

Darthvendor have you checked your cables that they are set right? Maybe the "power on" cables from the case. Sounds really weird that it stalls for a few seconds before powering on.
