Ok, I will just play with some settings and volts to try and see if I can achieve some better results.

@ Ace, can you verify if I got these materials correct for your Heatpipe Mod?

If so, you can use the pic to help noobs like me who usually don't go in HomeDepot/Lowes
I still don't have mobo, so I can't take pics with it just yet

only time to add a driver is for on board raid or a add-in card like an Areca Raid card.

if you are doing a single drive install, there is no need other than if you are intending to use ACHI.

Well Ace, I have my E8400 @ 3.6ghz now at stock voltages. DDR is running @ 400 mhz 1:1 at 4-4-4-12

This machine is fast and cool, i may leave it where it is instead of going for 4ghz but I think I will be changing the ram to g.skill 4gb pc 8000

that's very good...nice to run stock volts and get a +600 mhz boost out of it!

    i would suggest 2 x 2gb configuration over 4 x 1gb; if you know what i mean.

BTW, what is stock volts for you?...what is your VID?

I was thinking of installing Vista but I've got a few questions about installing the drivers for AHCI-mode.
Do I even need to install the them in Vista like I had to do in XP? Is it possible to do from any other storage media, a memorystick for example, or do I still need a floppy disk?

Well, I got my signature below running prime stable. I was surprised how easy this turned out to be! Especially with 8 GB of RAM. If only I had an OS that referenced it all . In another month I should have my free Vista Ultimate. Then I can really have some fun!

Core temp 0.96.1 shows a VID of 1.1125v

Uguru shows a current voltage of 1.20 to 1.22 to the core.

As far as ram goes I am looking at two gskill 2x2gb kits. I am leaning towards the PC2-8000 instead of the PC2-8500 set

did you see that 2nd review for the Gskill PC8000 sticks...he said that gskill tech support said those modules have a problem with abit's IP35 Pro board...but it looks like he did not go above 2.1v to see if the 5-5-5-15 worked properly at 1000 mhz.

i am using Gskill PC6400 and it will work up to just about 1000 mhz if i use 2.15v but my memory is spec to work at 1.8v.

Just wanted to let you know that it is virtually impossible to run ANY PCI/e Raidcontroller on this mobo, as long as the ICH setting is AHCI or Raid. This holds true for any Abit S775 board I have tried, these include old and new QuadGT as well as the IP35 Pro. It won't boot from HDD or CD, unless you prevent the addon card from initializing itself.
So the only solution is getting a big fat multiport addon card so you can disable onboard raid

Edit: Ace, 16.B09 Bios any good?

Edit: Ace, 16.B09 Bios any good?
there is at least one Raid add-in card that works with the Intel Raid enabled and that is the Areca 1210 8x PCIe card...works fine for me...i have Intel's raid enabled and OS installed in addition to dual booting off the areca raid card...i just have to go into the bios and change booting order for the each setup.

16.b09 is ok...it has a few things which i haven't really explored but someone mentioned them back many posts ago...the one drawback: my QX9650 is locked to 9x and below...i can raise it above 9x but it does not hold once you save and re-post...the screen stays at 9x whatever FSB is cranked in...i haven't been hindered since my memory is still capable of getting to the FSB with relaxed timings.

the other item: vcore set is closer to actual, if you can believe that...LOL
