I have 4 x2GB and I found that 2GB modules are usually rated lower. Most are only about PC2-6400. I can run all 4 sticks I have at 440x2. But, I don't because at 1:1 that would give me a crazy bus speed. I have run only two sticks at 3:/4 at over 440MHz x2. But I have a CPU speed problem at that x. Anyway with air I am happy at 3.36 GHz.
I am trying to say is that I have not seen any performance 2GB memory modules on the market as of lately.

I've been running into a problem for a while now and it has happened on all 3 P5B series boards I own.
When my FSB is heavily overclocked (say 450+), during the boot process sometimes my video card isn't recognized. This gives me a blank screen as it boots through Windows.
I can fix it sometimes by powering off the computer, then the PSU, and restarting. However, lately it seems like the problem is happening more and more often (I am also pushing the FSB harder and harder with the E8400).
I think I might have figured out what the problem is but I don't know how to fix it. I lock my PCI-E frequency at 101 regardless of what I am doing. However, I remember reading somewhere that the P5B series behaves better if you overclock the PCI-E frequency along with the FSB.
Can anyone give me any insight into this? It is hindering my ability to run at higher speeds as it will take anywhere from 6-12 boots to get into windows. Half the time it does boot it states "overclock failed" blah blah blah enter the BIOS,even at settings known to be 24/7 stable.

Just a little more info, I've tried swapping video cards and it doesn't fix it. I've also searched this thread and didn't come up with anything...that and its kinda hard to sort through 186 pages or so.

I have the exact same problem on my P5B Dlx but only when using Stand By mode. At a FSB of 460 MHz all is OK going into and coming out of Stand By mode but at 470 MHz it will go into Stand By mode but all I'll get is a blank screen when it tries to resume.
I'm using an X1950XT which is very similar to your card. I've always thought it was just an ATI problem but have never tried an Nvidia card to confirm. Anyone else familiar with this issue?

anyone have Hard-lock-ups under stress over about 438 fsb ?
this is with a Q6600 ...
I need 1.5V for 3.4 gig ..
but anything above 438 fsb - and I don't get a PRIME error as such, but anywhere between 8 minutes and 30 minutes I get a complete hard lock-up, if you then press reset the PC turns off, and then won't post ... if after lock-up you turn off at bakc, and back on again it posts. (without overclock fail)
I have mobo volts as high as I dare, I'm on
Vfsb 1.40 (have tried 1.45V)
Vmch 1.45 (have tried 1.55V)
Vsouth=1.6V
running Ballistix 8500 at 1:1, currently 5-5-5-15, 2.15V
running 4x 1gb modules
mobo temps are quite high (is system temp southbridge ??)
even though case is well cooled ... system temp idles about 48C and goes up to about 55C under load worst case

you are run 4 modules of ram, take out 2 modules and try again. I can't run over 440FSB without error using 4 modules of rams, that with
Vfsb 1.45
Vmch 1.85 (volt mod).
Vsouth=1.8V
You see, I can boot into window with 460 FSB and do dual SPI 32M, But when memtest I get error at the range 2020MB-2024MB, and 4040MB-4096MB in test 5. I change my mboard P5K-E and the ram work great 500FSb with 4 modules no problem.

Moved just now to a P5K Premium, my results will show in my sig.
I'll just advice people to check stability with OCCT in RAM mode as the NB and RAM are limiting on this MB for high overclock with a quadcore

What a joke !!!! P5B does a FSB over 400 no problem. Must be something with your skill, knowledge or components. I guess the first two.

Very easy to flaim people when you don't know them. Especially when I see your sig with poor OC when I fly at 3.8GHz on a P5K and 3.6 on a P5B with DDR2 above 1000Mhz at tighter timings than yours. So hey, go to school, improve your specs, and come back.
And yes, many are used to your useless comments on other topics. This topic is going to be a flaming rather than a contribution. I won't comment further and let you give useless silly advices to the poor noobs, from a professionel, skilled expierienced P5B Deluxe crawling at 3.3Ghz and claiming 3.6GHz is easy when a Maximus Formula has a hard time doing it, except some hand picked boards.

@ 3.45 gig
Vcore = 1.51V, Vmch = 1.45V, Vfsb = 1.4V fsb, Vsouth=1.6V
Prime stable
@ 3.31 gig (so not that much lower)
Vcore = 1.41V, Vmch = 1.25V, Vfsb = 1.3V, Vsouth = 1.5V

thats a lot of extra volts for not much extra overclock - so sticking to no.2 I think

Sure I flamed you. The topic is not PK5 vs P5B.
It should be clear to you that I traded my Dram Freq. settings for 2GB sticks to achieve 8GB of total memory. I have used 3 different sets of memory since I have had a P5B. Also, my OC has been determined by core v. requirements, benchmark testing etc. It is not my Max OC in either DDR2 or CPU.
At this point, my goal is 24/7 operation uptime without errors in Windows Event Viewer. I use my computer. I just don't Fire it Up for a quick unstable OC.

Anyway, seriously, to sum it up:
The P965 chipset rocks with a C2D but is FSB limited with a quadcore CPU, this is known from ages.
Most P5B deluxe series will overclock your C2Q to a 380-420 FSB, some roxor boards reached 450MHz. I till now, never saw a report of a stable OC on a P5B deluxe over 400FSB on a quadcore except the easy to stabilize small FFT in Prime95. Personally, Small FFT are stable for 12h at about 415 FSB, than no boot. OCCT in RAM mode and F@H are rock stable only at 390 FSB maximum
On a C2Q, above 520 FSB is far from being the rule, only noobs think the opposite because of some nice screenies. Only few Roxor CPUs and motherboards can do it.
Now, I saw boards doing a 450FSB screeny on a Q6600, but they are not legion
So people looking for a high overclock on C2Q, just have to know the limits of this board
