And pay extra attention to vDRAM: as it overvolts by 0.08 , here again it depends on what mem u got. These "basic settings" u can use to start.

Right now I am priming with the above setting 468FSBx9 , 1.20FSBv, 1.49NBv, 333 strap, transaction/dram static disabled/ clocktwister strong, so far it works.

I am currently using BIOS 0907, seems to work great, but so are 0802 & 0903 , I tried, but I didnt noticed any differences between those.
hmm cool but i havent seen anybody with a e8400 on 450fsb above
pass orthos large fft/prime large fft ...

    thats the issue..
also hmm not sure how but when i use the fsb voltage lower than vcore..
although the rams are unstable.. but manage to pass orthos small fft prioriy 8 on a lower vcore for an hour.

I have posted my settings for orthos stable blend default priority.
These where at 9x450@air. Didn't try with higher fsb since this was
    the 24/7 i wanted.
But benching at 9x500 was easy with PL=8 though and have manually set
    PLL=minimum=1.5 and fsbtermination=1.2(minimum) again.

If you guys are seeing 4GB ram clocking issues, especially with 2x2GB modules the issue is TRFC.
Asus in their wisdom have limited TRFC to a max of 42 unless your modules have SPD higher. I have an SPD for the OCZ 8000 ReaperX which gets round this issue , if you need it come post over on the support forum.

I have a feeling those of you running 4GB 4x1GB modules may need to set higher than 42 also, it makes a huge difference to stability.

Just a heads up, Asus know and we are beating on them to fix this. It effects all 965,P35,X38 and X48 boards

There are a lot of non-micron 1066 parts available now, 1066 1.8V is getting quite easy but TRFC does need to be loser than with Micron parts.

I thought it odd I did not see higher values on X38...considering how DDR3 goes...i thought someone would completely open up the chipset to DDR2, but I mean really...bioses have come a long way in the last little while when it comes to overclocking...

    Hello,

Those Ballistics have a lot of horsepower with a 400 Strap you can take advantage of. Plus a lot of folks are reporting tight timings which gives you some flexibility for overclocking.

Backup/Save your Current Overclocks to a Profile in Bios:

    Try these:

FSB Strap to North Bridge : 400
    DRAM Frequency: DDR2-1159
    DRAM Static Read Control: DISABLED
    Ai Clock Twister : Strong
    Transaction Booster : ENABLED
    Relax level: 0

    CPU Voltage : 1.31
    Subjective to your Situation

    CPU PLL Voltage :
    1.50vBios ~ 1.632v HM (Hardware Monitor) Start Here@ 1.50vBios
    1.52vBios ~
    1.54vBios ~ 1.664
    1.56vBios ~ 1.696

North Bridge Voltage : 1.47 This may need to be increased with 47c Max Temperature to watch out for underload.

    FSB Termination Voltage :
1.20(Start at 1.20v. Many users stable at 1.20-1.22v.)

    CPU GTL Reference : .61x
    DDR2 Controller REF Voltage :DDR2

Dram static enabled should work too pared with strong twister and TB enabled, up to 450 fsb with ballistix,

5,5,5,12,42 no problem at 2.2vdram TRD 7 4:3 divider FSB 450, strap 400 Q6600 at 3.6ghz. Tried CAS 4 but I think that is impossible unless someone can suggest settigs :-) Couldn't get 700mhz either at CAS6 :-(

My Gskill 8000's 2x2Gb gave up at just over 500mhz with a TRFC of 52 programmed into the SPD. So not sure extra TRFC will make much of a difference.

TRFC makes a huge difference to modules with 128x8 density...you guys need to look past 64x8 microns as they don't need TRFC loser than 42 in many cases.

Micron is losings its grip on 1066 and higher IC's, OCZ have dimms doing 1066 at 1.8V now 64x8 and 128x8's doing 1150 with 2V...so you could in theory have 8Gb running 1100+MHZ real soon guaranteed....but they will need TRFC higher than 42.

The big picture is micron does not need higher TRFC in most cases, but Micron is losing its grip on the market and these new IC's need higher TRFC.

I have 3 bios files already with TRFC to 132 from bios, 1 being for the maximus formula...i can NOT release this bios im only a beta tester.

Sit tight...you will see it soon once we have tested.

If i understand correctly you are saying that:
1)Micron D9's can have low tRFC (25 for mine at 600+MHz) but cannot clock well at same voltages with other brand modules?
2)So the other brand modules can play at higher MHz but not keeping low tRFC?

    Example:
    Micron D9's @600MHz@2.2v@tRFC 25
    Powerchips,Elpida etc @600MHz@2.1V@tRFC 40+

thats right, except TRFC needs to be 54 or higher over 960MHZ.

New IC's are rated 1066 1.8V, some are doing 1150 1.8V 5-5-5-18 but need higher TRFC values than D9

I have to confess to not knowing much about memory overclocking but I would imagine there is a bandwidth sacrifice made for that higher TRFC Tony?

increasing TRFC to 56 as you have suggested on average what do you think you could get in terms of raw mhz and what would the associated TRD be?

I'm thinking if you have to settle for a TRD of 8 and 1100mhz and TRFC of 56 then Micron d9's at TRD 7 1200mhz TRFC 42 are going to be the better choice?

I'd be more interested if Asus gave us better control over TRD so I can get my d9's running at 1200mhz TRD 6 :-)

you have good control of TRD, enable 0=6 and disable 0=7, 1=8, 2=9

TRFC is just coming to the forefront, as is 8GB usage with vista, 1GB dimms are last years tech now and its time to move on IMO

I don't doubt it if you want to see 8 gig but honestly. Can the X38 north bridge handle 4x2 at high FSB's?

as for TRD. Isn't the TRD dependent on the strap.

I am running enable 0 at the moment and memset reports 7 not 6. Tried enable 1 which I assume is 6 and I am guessing the north bridge or the memory just can't handle it :-/

To be honest I have can't get anything with the 266 strap working without relaxing TRD.

If you have any advice Tony it is always greatly received.

I believe he meant allows us to change TRD as in the Rampage Formula X48 BIOS which actually works. The Maximus Formula BIOS just doesn't cut it yet when it comes to straps.......and yet it gets the ROG badge.
