I noticed that the 3850's have 1.014 (or similar) for GPU 2D voltage. Wouldn't be possible to set that for 3870 aswell? Or is there a low limit in addition to the high limit when setting the voltage on HD3xxx series?

You can set it to 1,014 but it causes great instability. Most games fail to launch. I have found that 1,214 is the safest for 3870 2d mode.

In my best babblefish german, I asked him if we could have it adjust the 2d and 3d powersave modes as well.

He speaks english well, babblefish isn't required.

He indicated that he had some serious issues adjusting the low power 3d setting. Daidlos maybe you could give him a hand?

    We would all appreciate it.

    Ayo

    I tried your 800 @ low & high 3d, and 300 at 2d.

It works, but the temps are really horrible, i have to use ATI tool fan profile to avoid hitting 80c, where in the 3870fanfix.bin file i didn't use atitool and it would never go above 65c. And atitool is not good, and will go low/very high depending on temps, where the fanfix one would adjust very nicely with temp.

I was thinkin you could combine your latest one (800/1152 @ 3dhi/low) with the fan control from the one here.

EDIT: yah im gonna have to take that back. It helped on crysis, but other games like Unreal Tournament 3 just crash when they start. I flashed back to the one i upped in this post. It doesn't really make crysis a nice game, but atleast it runs and temps are really good.

First of all thank you all for your feedback. It's nice to be able to help.
I have some new bioses for you. All bioses have 2d clocks at 300/1125 and 2d voltage at 1,214V. Low power 3d and 3d modes have voltage at 1,33 and frequencies depend on the version you choose. UVD mode is clocked at 775/1125 and has 1,3v voltage.
Also there are two bios versions. One based on the 73 bios with the normal low noise fan settings and one based on the 71 bios with the aggressive fan control for lower temps. 71 is better for those that use the stock cooler. I recommend the newer 73 to those with aftermarket coolers or those who don't like fan noise.
I have named the bios files as "core-mem-bios version.bin". So "775-1125-71.bin" means you have 3d clocks of 775 core 1125 memory and its has more aggressive fan control (based on 71 bios). I recommend to rename the file you want to flash to something like "bios1.bin" as atiflash has problems with long file names.
As always test at your own risk and feedback is welcome.

Remember to reinstall drivers after changing bios. Overdrive tends to get confused and tries to load values from the old bios causing some games to crash. i have tested with UT3, COD4 and Lost Planet as well as Crysis and had no crashes with a clean driver install. I hope the new version works for you.

Yes that's a variation of the latest sapphire and it has great fan control, similar to your 71. Here it is in it's original form from Sapphire if you want it.

Is that bios less aggressive than the 71 fanfix?

Ever so slighty. My idle temps stay in the mid 50s, the fanfix 71 was keeping them at less the 50. Load temperature is just under 70.

Okay I ran 830/1200, but that caused crashes in Crysis (vista even said i had had a bluescreen after i booted up)

So im on 800/1150 now. Been playing crysis for hours, rock stable. Temps are also really good and i dont hear my fans anyway.

it seems that there are some 3870 cores which cannot run properly above 800mhz... mine are both referance HIS cards and seem fine in crysis at 830mhz core and 2200-2300mhz mem...
    interesting....

i think the cores overclock fine. if i'm correct, the overclocking wall comes from the RAM getting hot with the stock cooling solution. the highest i can run my RAM at 100% game stable settings is 1176. i imagine aftermarket cooling would allow me to OC higher if i wanted.
