Hi, I was wondering, I seem to have a faily average chip (not BAD but nowt special from what I have seen) it needs 1.416v REAL & 1.37v LOAD to be ORTHOS stable at 4.25Ghz - is VID anything to do with it? and if so, how and why? I am kinda unsure what VID really is about, and why they vary on the same chips!?

Sorry if this has already been answered, I did read a bit about it but, im kinda unclear.
Thanks.
PS: where can I find an Everest that recognises my CPU that does not have half the stuff blanked out with 'TRIAL VERSION' :/
I am sure I never used to have this problem..

Well I don't know mate? everybody seems to be around there don't they? I am sure I see a bunch of people with similar/less voltages at 4.2+ I have loads of droop so I have to have 1.416 running through the chip IDLE. only when ORTHOS is under way do I see 1.372, wait let me check.. BRB! ..yer, its 1.376 under ORTHOS. thats HIGH vcore for these chips! they were designed for MUCH lower voltages, I can see this poor thing being dead in 6 months lol!
And as I like to sell on my previous hardware thats not a good thing!

For sure. You are right.![]()
But this thread is not about better or worst superPI times, we are talking about e8400/e8500 retail OC, and all the settings are done to reach the maximum overclock possible of these processors.
I know, with OS optimized (2003 sever is better), windows registry tweaking, copywaaza, ERAM, maxmem, lowest Perfomance Level, tighest RAM timings, and so on it is possible to reach better score with superPI. In my test here there are any of these optimizations, this is not the purpose of my tests here.
I am not bothering to use core temp readings any more, they are too inaccurate to be of any use.
Under idle I was getting 35/42, with fluctuations of 39/50 with no CPU usage.....
The CPU temp reads 52c orthos load, 35c idle, much more realistic temps.
I would suggest people forget about this fascination with core temp readings and just go with the CPU temp reading. Core temp is of zero use with this generation of CPU.

I woudn't say "this generation" as the 9650's don't seem to have the diode issue we see in the 8400's and neither does the 8500's. I agree that coretemps are useless on the 8400s but they are of some use on the other two released versions of Penryn. My guess is if you have temp sensor diodes that don't kick on till the higher temps you are made an 8400. If the temp diodes work at even low temps you get the 8500 bin. That would explain why the 8500 is $100+ more for a mere 160MHz increase in speed. Hell. you got a 3.0 GHz Dual core CPU with 6MB cache for $200. Screw the diodes.

These problems affect all 45nm CPUs with no exception.
Yep all 45nm are having these issues, some worse than others. My CPU is an E8500 and it's core temp readings are of zero use to me, as I mentioned in all my previous posts.....
Intel has said ignore the core temp readings and go with the CPU temp. Seeing how they made the CPU, I am inclined to take there advice![]()

My bad, I should've read some more posts.

My CPU seems to be stable at 500*8 = 4000 at 1,3625 vcore, but Orthos always crash at 9-11 hours at any voltage.
Anyone with same problem ?
What tasks are you going to use on your PC that will 100% load your CPU for 9-11 hours?
If it were my PC I would call that stable enough for my PC usage.

I don't have any heat related issues with my CPU, it runs cooler than my E6850. If you did have a problem with overheating @ stock speeds, it makes sense to RMA it, as it must be a faulty chip.
With different CPU architecture, different methods for reading temps may be needed. What if you only looked at the core temps, but the CPU temp reading was much lower and the real temp of the CPU?
You may have sent back a fully working CPU, all because a faulty/inaccurate temp reading software program?

imho it is not sufficient to say only "those temps are high"! This sentence for me not makes much sense!![]()
It sounds like in my country the temps are high. If you investigate deeper maybe this sentence is true respect north pole temps, but is totally false respect sahara desert temps!
You have to specify the context (cooling type, vcore applied, FSB and CPU frequency). Maybe at the end your sentence could be true and you could be right, but you have to specify what you are talking about.![]()
And, as somebody says, maybe coretemp with these cpus is no so accurate, and the temps could be withouth any sense.
