the latest one, whatever that is. my daily driver speed on this mobo is 400 FSB. i can do that with all the chipset volts in the pink. i had to max my chipset volts to get it to run 425 FSB, so i figured the few extra MHz weren't worth all the extra voltage. i just set it to 425 for some bench runs and put it back to 400 when i was done.

Perfect, thanks man. I just put all my chipset volts into pink last night because i couldn't run it stabilized for more than a few hours with them set to "auto"

vMCH to the max? you're talking about to stabilize the ram right? That won't mess anything up

i guess worst case scenario it won't boot.

this BIOS has crap options for the E8400. i have to set my Vcore to Auto because the lowest manual setting is 1.45, which is a bit extreme for these new 45nm processors. running it on Auto sets it at 1.225. stable as can be.

Yes, max it but actively cool the NB and then boot into DOS to test with a few rounds of memtest86 (I use test no. 5 and then 8), don't try booting into Windows till memtest86 clears. Next reduce vMCH and retest till you get the minimum to be stable.

weird. i have a brand new Bone Trail sitting right next to me, so i'm about to do some major surgery on my rig . no need for me to investigate why i can't manually set 1.225 on mine. i bid you all farewell. my P5W will be missed. maybe i'll build an HTPC out of it instead of selling it. it's been a really great motherboard.

But now it completly starts up... and if i unplug the psu cord... the power on button from the remote doesn't work until i get into windows and shut down the pc again... any ideas?

Turns out I do have a faulty HD3870 card, waiting for a replacement so got a HD3870x2 loaner which runs OK on the P5W DH Dlx, seems to lose out very very slightly to 2 x HD3870 though.

Thanks for the info - I've been wondering what the performance was like between the two.

Don't suppose anyone out there knows how crossfired 2900xt's stack up against the above?

Anyone with a E8400? If so, could you report your idle and load temps?

Looks like GDDR4 at work here.
X2 uses 1.0ns GDDR3 memory and clocked and usually clocked at 825MHz
    3870 uses .08ns GDDR4 memory and clocked at 777MHz
    See the difference now?

Is there any location to get ALL the BIOS revisions in one download? This would be very beneficial to basically flash through the various revisions and see which ones work the best for me.

Im about to install the latest 2602 (2nd release within a month?! )

Last week after not being able to run a stable 3G overclock (around 5.5 hrs is when I got the 1stg error in Prime 95). I then loaded defaults and ran memtest for about 30min the next day thinking it might be the memory. After coming back up to my room to check the status...the PC had shut off...not reboot...shut off.

I then tried to boot up again and it would not post at all. It would simply shut off after about 30sec. I initially though it was because I was bumping up the mem voltage from 1.9 to 1.95 so I tried to restore defaults but it would still not post.

The next day I opened the box up and tried testing the RAM. I took both sticks out. I then put one back into one of the orange slots I've always used and it booted right up. I then tried the other orange slot with the same stick (same story). I took that stick out and did the same with the next stick (same results).

Next I stuck both of them (dual channel config. like I initially had). I booted up...the post took VERY long...after almost a min on the initial splash screen...I considered it a bad post and restarted. I tried again and it posted...very slowly (not sure if this is dual channel related-it seems to be).

So anyway I set the RAM to run 800mhz @ 5-5-5-15 with 1.9V (factory "overclock" settings) ran the latest memtest version for about 3 hours and it seemed fine...about 6 tests and no errors.

I booted up this morning and got the BIOS message the "overclock failed"

This board is beginning to be a real pain in the ass. I could have got an MSI Neo series for half the price and from Im hearing nowhere NEAR the amount of trouble that this board is providing.

T_Ski: thanks for the in-depth response to my posts, man ( appreciate that )

yeah, i put it in the 8400 thread. it's kind of off topic in this one, seeing as how i'm not using my P5W anymore.

Are you sure that is all about Bios versions?
I mean, have your ever before had a successful overclock @ 3 GHz?
Now with 2504 Bios and same settings appeared that problem?

Exclamation Guys, i just HAD The biggest nightmare

    Please help me over here,

yesterday i tried to flash from 2504 to 2602 just because i love always to have the newest bios ver.

so from a weird way ASus EZ doesnt want to let me get the update running, it just freezed when i tried to enter it showing me the files from the USB Flash A:\ and C:\(was the usb) i tried without the usb flash and it was still freeze, freeze means i couldnt move between the files i had in the usb files i had like 3 ROMS, and without it i couldnt do CTRL + ALT + DEL thats how it freezed.

So i said i will update from Winxp using Asus Windows Flash , turned off all Overclocking ofc and before in Asus EZ. and everything was smooth, reset and to configurate to LOAD DEFAULTS, reset, booted, so it look liked it was freezed, so i reset again and it freezed again, ( i think it wasnt freeze because as you know when you do the Defaults it activates the slow FAN Controls so it gives it more 7 sec or something, and i forgot it at the time) so i turned the computer off, and when i turn it on it didnt boot. I Was IN SHOCKED*, tried everything, pulling memory sticks i have 4x, pulling the power cable, reset CMOS, everything i could think off. so i was at thinking i leave the computer for the day , thinking about RMA and such.

*I KNEW the motherboard is not dead because everything was smooth, no error and i did everything like i always did. but i just thought about moving foward.

So after the day i thought what the hell before i am going to store i will try to turn it on, and POOF magic, it booted and works. but i saw i cant change the CPU VOLTAGE and i dont have EIST anymore, where did they go ?

please help me restore them and if someone could explain the weird syptom.

***FOUND THE FIX FOR EIST. DISABLING THE CPU RATIO MAKE EIST TO APPEAR

Now with 2504 Bios and same settings appeared that problem?

No, Im not sure its all BIOS related. That's just the thing...

The longest I've run Prime95 is about 5.5 hours with 1 error. That was @ 9x333 using the Vcore setting one below 1.2625 (not sure the exact number as Im not looking at the BIOS right now).

I just tried this again with RAM at 667Mhz 5-5-5-15 with 2.0V. I got an error in Prime95 about an hour into testing so I bumped up Vcore to 1.2625. Im about an hour into it with now errors yet.

My plan is to run the Prime95 for about 8-9 hrs. If the results are good, I'll then run memtest for the same amount of time.

Again, Im not sure what is giving me the inconsistent and odd results (Im fairly new to this). Is it the BIOS, the RAM, RAM settings, CPU, CPU settings or MOBO-I dont know?

Im using an OC guide from Toms forums and have all of the basic settings:
