Have you been getting your 1100MHz+ core clocks with OVP and OCP limits still in place?

Yes, i have not modded for OVP/OCP yet.
Those clocks were achieved with 1.505V idle, and between -70 to -100C

Considering I don't have a multimeter.. I will be buying normal (non-variable) resistors for this mod. What should I be buying? I have stock cooling at 100%

I think it would be best for you to just get a multimeter.... Then you will be able to use a vr resistor and change the voltage for overclock/heat output...

+1. You can get a decent enough DMM for pretty cheap.

    help please?

So I did the mod on my 8800GTS 512. I also did 2 modifications on my motherboard (added tantalum caps in parallel and a vdroop mod) After installing everything I turn it on to find just a black screen (I also didnt hear any post beep) I thought it was OVP so I broke out my multimeter, GPU was at 1.4v and mem could not go below 2.35v no matter how much I turned the trimmer (I know the trimmer wasent at its limit, it wasent clicking) So I unsoldered the vmem mod and the mem then measured 2.1v. Still a black screen, So I unsoldered the vdroop mod, still a black screen. I didnt unsolder the caps yet (they are on the back of the board and would take a while to get everything out of my case) I know for sure that the polarity is correct on the caps, so polarity isnt the problem.

What could it be? I will be testing another GPU(unmodded) this weekend to see if its the board or the GPU. Also one other thing that may be helpful is that during the voltmod I ripped the + trace off of the pcb (the one for the vgpu mod, right below the primarion chip) but I saw that the trace led directly to the resistor right below it so I just soldered it to that. Is that ok or could that be causing the problem?

Thanks for reading and thanks for any help

2.35v? What size VR did you use? Did you measure Ohms before soldering it in place? Increasing vmem has been shown to do nothing. Decreasing vmem is actually better... at least on the Qimonda chips. Have you read the whole thread yet?

If you managed to rip a trace off you may have been too heavy handed w/ the soldering iron. There's a chance your gfx card is fine since it may be your Mobo at fault, but you may have damaged lower PCB layers. How long did you hold the tip on the PCB, and what kind of iron do you have? Do you have any pics of the gfx card in question?

A 50kohm vr for mem was used as directed. No I didnt measure them before I put them on, stupid me always forgetting things, but luckily they were within acceptable ranges (gpu was at 1.45v and mem at 2.4-2.5v I think, nothing that should have killed the card) And I know lower vmem is better, the problem is that it wont let me adjust to any value lower than 2.35v. And yes, ive read just about every page of this thread. I am 99% certain that there is no damage done by ripping the pad off (it was just the tiny pad, it didnt take any traces with it when it ripped off) The iron is a 25-30w radioshack iron, tip is too big for mods, but I manage. There is no solder touching anything that it shouldnt be, its not bridging contacts or anything like that. I try to keep the iron on the pcb for the shortest amount of time possible and I do have pictures but lost my cable for my camera and wont be able to put up pics until I find that. Thanks

    This is after Vmod:

vga work fine @ 870mhz with 1,35V but for 890mhz it need 1,45V full load and over 900mhz it's very very unstable.
I traied also with 1,55V but I saw only reboot.
Cooled @ liquid and temp never over 42°C full load.
What can I do for bench @ 930-950mhz? DICE or LN2? lol

    LuckyX2,

Just ripping the pad of doesn't mean anything is hurt, but I just worry that if you had enough heat & pressure in there long enough for the pad to come off then perhaps you did some damage to underlying layers. Hopefully everything is fine, and your Mobo just isn't liking it's mod. I'm hoping that if you undo those mods that everything will work again.

I'm sure the memory could take 2.35v, but I know the memory controller doesn't like the extra voltage too much. They share the same voltage line. I have no idea if it's possible to kill the memory controller or not w/ too much voltage, but I know it doesn't respond well to even 2.0v.

Somethign sounds wrong to me if you used a 50k VR for vMEM and get 2.35V minimum. WIthout the mod what is your resistance from the leg to ground?

Well, having a great Twintech card here on air.Looking after v-mod for 900/2200/2200 for 24/7 considering that without a v-mod i am stable at 820/2000/2200 and 840 for benching. And yes it does have Samsung memory

I will be able to test this tomorrow and get back to you with the resistance.

    thanks for the help guys

Wonder if we could decouple VDDQ from VMEM..

Okay I vgpu modded my XFX 8800GTS Alpha Dog. I don't have water cooling, so my fan's set to 100%. My memory I left stock, and I measured it at 2.0v the vgpu sits at 1.195v idle and 1.235 load when the 500ohm VR's set to it's highest position. I'm able to go up to 820 core 2000 mem and 1900 shader and it's 30minutes ATItool artifact scan stable with the temps going up to 57C. Now I know it seems high, but I'm sitting with 28C to 33C ambient temps, and no not the ambient measured by the card, I mean the temperature measured by a thermometer inside the house. When benching I'm able to run all 3D Benchmarks at 880 core, 2100 memory and 2100 shader with the idle vgpu at 1.370V and 1.425 under load and the temps up to 64C.
