Also, I have some random problems with o/c'ing. I've always heard that this and the other new Asus boards recover from failed oc attempts "gracefully" by rebooting to stock settings. Well, whatever settings it deems as stock just hang the pc. I'm guessing that it undervolts by ram too much and makes it not happy. All I get is a black screen, no post beeps or anything. This has even happened to me once or twice on a windows restart without changing any settings. To get around this I end up having to put an old stick of value ram I have laying around in and that lets me get into the bios and adjust memory voltages to 2.3 or so. Then I can turn it off, put the team ram back and get into the bios again. Sometimes it requires a cmos reset and sometimes it doesn't.

Do you think that switching to Bios 1002 will help this? Or should I look for a different set of ram that will run with less volts?
My board did that as well with my Lanfest Crucial Ballistix DDr2 800 2.2v Micron d9 chips. It is due to the default memory voltage 1.8v being too low for some chip. I also had to do the cheap ram trick. I recently moved to Transcend Axe ram which is also micron D9 DDR1200 2.2v ram and for some reason it is fine and will boot at 1.8v during recovery. Here is the ram it works great http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820208343

Gen, thanks for testing, i tried the same with my indexfinger and found them to get only slightly warm under load, not hot.

Could you perform the same test with the vertical row of mosfets that are covered with the heatpipecooling?

thanks TRT. Which bios were you using when you had this problem? I'm going to switch to 1002 tonight and see if I still have the same issue.
That's not a bad option if I end up deciding to try new ram, although I wonder how their customer service is. I was looking at the Ballistix 1066 sticks as well, as I know their service is top notch.

Also, the SPD on my ram is already set at ddr2-533 @ 1.8v according to cpu-z. So, me altering it would probably have no effect crazy.

Where is the sticky for the Q6600 overclocks?
Anyway I have mine at 400x8 which is 3.2 with stock voltage, and a stock cooler. I don't know about the temps tho 64 seems high to me. I had it at 333x9 which was 3 gigs but I didn't have speedfan installed then.

FWIW I've seen CPU-Z report things incorrectly, are are you looking at the "Max Bandwith" section? If so check that all your mem modules are reporting the same via the "Memory Slot Selection", and BTW if it is actually
set to 533 according to my manual 667 is the lowest this mobo officially
supports, but 533 support is likely directly related to your bios revision
    or hardware revision even.
I would at least try opening the SPD with SPDTool to see what "SDRAM
Cycle time at Maximum Supported CAS Latency" is actually set at. Good Luck!

If it is the same as 0906 it is called loadline calibration.

I think that speed fan is not the best tool for monitoring the core temps. Even if I set the offset values of the temperatures, it seems that it calculates with false. Its good to control fan speeds according to temps. For temperature montioring I use hwmonitor, or core temp. The core temps are good about 60°C-65°C, and hot over 75°C. Dont go over 80°C. The CPU sensor displays about 10-15°C less then the core sensors, so its max value should be 65°C.

Has anyone tried the new bios yet?

I`m not brave enough to try it because I cant downgrade bios for some reason.

I still cant get asus update to install in my pc.
Anyone have any ideas why the program keeps saying "no asus motherboard installed"

Nothing has changed except the C1E fix ? Wow, I can't believe it...it seems that Asus was able to fix a BIOS without creating new bugs

    Hello guys,

I just made the jump from AMD to Intel, and I have an E8400 and an Asus P5K-E WIFI on the way. Can someone please point me to a link where I can get useful info on Overclocking using this board? In other words, which setting should be OFF/ON, optimal setups, etc.

    Thank you

Default for NB is 1.25v Im using 1.60 for now no problems, however I do
have 80mm fan blowing on the heat sink. It's seems to get pretty hot on
anything over 1.40v. As with anything if your raising the voltage keep
    It cool.

    Hi guys,

Could someone measure the distance between the two holes for the mosfet cooler on this board? (P5K-E wifi)
And measure the distance between the other two holes for the other mosfets that don't come with a heatsink?

    I'd really appreciate it!
I'm thinking of buying this board, but need to check this out.
