ok i managed it so the fan blows out towards the rear exhaust...w/ the ultra vertical 90 degrees to the NB sink. I think this is most resonable...as a benefit it now would also suck air from the mem sticks. It was tight because of the NB sink right there..but you can shift the 120 a bit so the one heatpipe doesnt touch the NB sink. I also bent the NB pipe a bit, otherwise it would push against the ultra. They didnt joke, one mm more and this wouldnt be possible.

Anyway...the other possiblity would be to place it upwards blowing towards the PSU.

next thing i need is 60x60x10 for the NB...or can i safely run it passive ??

origin, position of the machine doesnt really matter.

But is your PSU fan now sucking the air, while the CPU fan (below the PSU) goes exactly the other way?? Who wins ?

If this is the case it should be nobrainer this is VERY, VERY bad.... (thats from how i understood your fan setup)

i have a feeling that my 2 * 120 mm fans win over the 80mm psu fan

and good luck with it I'm going to reapply the Ceramique now and hopping t's getting better.

Thanks for the warning, so would you use thermal pads instead..? Let me know how it goes with your temps after reapplying the Ceramique.

    Hi guys!

I have good news....about crucial ballistix tracer pc8500...

    - I 've tried memtest 1.70 with "current" on "fine clokc delay" under ch1...so the parameters that i touch are dram voltage (where i put 2,2 v to keep them at 1066 Mhz) and the timings ( where i put 5-5-5-15 manually)...and the memtest has gone ok withuot any errors....ah!....i've changed the pci compliancy from 1.0a to 1.0...( i have an ati x550....)

For Praz: yes....without clock fine delay the stick of ddr 2 has gone ok with memtest...so the the only thing is the fake boot and...the 2,2 v and timings to be set manually...i have a strange sensation that this mobo needs some days to accustom with the components....is it alive??...

I did it today, reapplied alot more Ceramique and now have to wait for burn in since now the temp's are even worse then before but after burn in I'll place some pic's of it and hope it'll get better. About the thermal pads I don't know you will have to find out by your self hope it'll work better then the ceramique.
    Report follows after some time

I have tried 3 different solutions for the mosfets, a copper block I made, a modified thermalright mosfet cooler, and the stock sink. They all perform basiclly the same. ~1-2C change, and the stock sink is the winner. I just lapped it down to aluminum shine, and added ceramique. Put an 80mm fan on all three, and well, DFI got it right.

    I am joining the party

I don't have any good graphics card to test right now, but I want to find out:
    • try several cooling solutions of PWM components, but should I bother? Has anyone tryed a solution different from stock HS with better results?
    • as I have owned a pretty nice P35 board (Asus P5K-E), I want to compare OCing of CPU and memory and hope to achieve a stable 4GHz Q6600

Lot of work right now, but I hope I will post some results soon ...
I am so glad to have a DFI again

I have a rev.A board made in China

like i said unknown its not tuned at all, but they were roughly cpu core 1.5v, vtt 1.4 odd, NB over 1.5v & ram @ 2.15v . i set them fairly high so i new it would boot to OS first time.

ive got a few free days so i'll hav a little play & see what i can realy get out this setup.

only bad thing i can say about this mobo so far is that u can't set the ram speed lower than the fsb. it not a major biggy, but useful for me.

thats about it though, other than that its fecking proper bo

That's not an option with the X38 chipset.

so why is tape being advised for mosfets i used mx-2 and they dropped to +3 ambient idle from +8 and i have more volts in them now, so why use tape with the semi hard mount the dfi dosnt have a gap from the push pins

Ok here some pic's of it:
    this is the stock TIM

    after cleaning

this is after I reapplied the AS Ceramique and realize worse temp then with the stock

and this is with reapplied again even more TIM as you can see

    and all back on

I'm going to wait now till I report how it performs with alot TIM on it, but doesn't look good till yet

    Edit: MOSFET

zanzabar: you might have had a board where the fets just managed to line up and be equally touching the heatsink...

Ok 2 questions... Why is it reading almost 1.7v to the northbridge when i set the voltage at like 1.444v?

And im not that clear about this strap thing yet... Does changing your memory divider also change your northbridge strap? Like all the 200/xxx dividers are one strap, the 266/xxx dividers are a different strap, etc etc

There are always an exception to everything but for most users changing the TIM used for the PWM MOSFETs is not going to result in a decrease of temperatures. DFI uses Shinetsu X23-7783D on these components. It is probably the best commonly available TIM for this use.
