Hey guys I just put some new mx-2 on my cpu and tried rebooting and had no luck getting it to post. Then I noticed that the cpu voltminder does not light up. All the other voltminder leds light up just not the cpu one. I know I didn't make a mistake on the mx-2 application, been doing it for years. How could my CPU just randomly die?

Now pull your head out of your ass for 1 second and let your brain get some oxygen. Clearly if under load he gets insane temps while the idle is respectable there is most likely a tim issue or cooler issue.

If the cpu fan is controlled and NOT spining up when under load that could explain alot of his troubles if not all of them.

    Help!

Hi everyone, i really need help here.

Problem : The pc will reboot by itself after a few hours of usage, no bsod, just black out and reboot. and upon reboot it wont be able to get into windows until I power off, let it rest for 10sec and restart. Then the cycle will repeat itself.

This happens no matter I am in OC or non-OC mode.

    Spec :
    Maximus Formula 1.03g BIOS 907
    Intel E6750
4x1GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 (OCZ Memory Cooler on top)
    Geforce 7900GS (not OCed)
1x750GB seagate barracuda + 3x320GB barracuda (in AHCI mode)
    Antec Trio-650W

    My OC settings (3.33Ghz, ddr@1000-5,5,5,15,2.2):
    Ai Overclock Tuner [Manual]

    Ai Clock Twister [Strong]
    Transaction Booster [Disabled]
    Boost Level [0]
    Voltage Settings
    CPU Voltage [Auto] (at 1.32V)
    CPU PLL Voltage [1.57v]
North Bridge Voltage [Auto] (at 1.65V)
    DRAM Voltage [2.08v] (at 2.208V)
    FSB Termination Voltage [Auto]

DDR2 Channel B REF Voltage [Auto]
    DDR2 Controller REF Voltage [DDR2_REF]
    SB 1.5V Voltage [Auto]

I have tried many variation, using BS400 and 800@4-4-4-12, 1066@5-5-5-15, 800@5-5-5-15, all give me same problem. some settings will reboot earlier, others a bit later, but same problem. I ran using 1HDD, also same problem.

Reseated cpu, reinstall the whole mobo after rearranging the cables, etc etc.
Did memtest on each stick individually, and in dual stick mode (for both sets) and it will turn out no error even at 1066 settings.

I have tried various voltage settings, and recommended settings in this forum, as well as the other 200++ page forum, and googled everything i could on maximus formula. I tried 602 and 907 bios, same problem. And even in 907 i get very high temp reading, when running everest, i could only do memory test, as it uses 50ish% and cpucore0,1 at 90+degree C. I couldnt even do cpu test because it goes >100C, that's like.. BOILING point. But the sink isnt even hot. Orthos will cause a thermal alarm and shut down. ARG!

As you can tell this isnt really a gaming machine, more for graphic/video/coding work.

I am extremely frustratred now, please help shed some light on this very very strange board. I will supply any other information that I might have missed out here.

Was using stock, just tried a coolermaster hyper tx2, same problem.
When i first used 907, it was reporting cpu around 17C, core around 40C.
Then i downgraded to 602 for stability sake, but that didnt help, and now that i flash it back to 907, my temp is stuck at 602 ranges of 30C cpu, and 50ish-->90+C for load.

also, when i run at stock speed, with no OC except fixed ram timing and voltage, i get the same random reboot problem.

    any advice? thanks in advance.

How hot is your case? Are you getting the bsod or just a shutdown.I hade a 750w power supply that would shutdown if the case got over 40C .

hi there, i running with the case open, mobo at 35C, NB 39-40C, both according to everest, room temp about 25-27C.

I am trying to figure if it is a temp problem, or psu problem.
And btw it reboots blankly even when idling, temp of high 40C core, which should be quite normal...

    I cant think anymore

    couple comments, Your settings:
    Voltage Settings
    CPU Voltage [Auto] (at 1.32V)
    CPU PLL Voltage [1.57v]
North Bridge Voltage [Auto] (at 1.65V)
    DRAM Voltage [2.08v] (at 2.208V)
    FSB Termination Voltage [Auto]
    South Bridge Voltage [Auto]
    Loadline Calibration [Enabled]
    CPU GTL Reference [Auto]
    North Bridge GTL Reference [Auto]
DDR2 Channel A REF Voltage [Auto]
DDR2 Channel B REF Voltage [Auto]
Has a little too much "auto" in it for me. This board is extremely sensitive to correct voltage and I don't trust auto at all. This simply is not an auto board.

Also, what are your load temps now? And have you downloaded OCCT and run it with Everest to see voltage curves? That reboot sound like a voltage issue of some sort. It woudl at least be good to rule voltage out as the culprit.

and I've found this card to be slightly better than any onboard audio I've had. A bit more crisp if you ask me but I only have 2 Bose speakers, no surroundsound.

    Xp Sp3

I installed XP SP3 and everything is great, but I can't get the audio drivers installed at all. I tried the setup exe and that fails, then i tried to manually update the driver by forcing it to install the INF and that didn't work either. Any suggestions?

    Bummerboy,

Try disabling "Loadline Calibration" and set your CPU voltage to about 1.35v for now. Save and exit the bios, go back in and goto the "Hardware Monitoring" section and make sure it shows about 1.32v there for vcore as well. If not, go back to the settings and increase it, save + exit + re-enter bios until it gets 1.32v or slightly above.

The crashing while idling even at stock mhz, volts etc is sometimes caused by enabling Loadline Calibration so in order to fix it you have to disable it. This doesn't happen to everyone and it sounds silly that it would crash at idle + stock but it happens and it can be fixed. This was confirmed by Anandtech in one of their recent articles with an Asus P5E3 and the latest QX9650...

    http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...spx?i=3184&p=5

One negative is that your vdroop will now be slightly larger than before when your CPU is loaded. However, if you can find the right vcore to offset this for a given stable Ghz then it's not really a major issue

Hi, I've read somewhere that there is a problem with sp3 and hd audio. You might be better without the service pack until MS sort out this issue upon final release.

Sorry, but I found P35-DQ6 onboardsound a bit better than SurpremeFX. There are different opinions about this.
There are also that people saying, that there is no difference between the SurpremeFX and a X-Fi, but I can hear the difference clearly.

Iadstudio : Hi there, I did try various fixed setting (non-auto) based of the forum here, anandtech and other oc forums. I noticed that most are quite similar, and i have exhausted almost all possible combination, and found that auto for most of them gives me least errors (etc superpi and orthos etc)

Timko : Wow thanks great new info. will try that next.

After my post earlier, i had turned down the core V to a super low 1.25V, reading about 1.21 on everest/cpuid. And it ran stable at stock speed 2.66 until now, idle cpu temp is at a ridiculous 18c? no possible coz my room is already 25! core at 40C, load to about 70+C.

I dont use occt, i did try othos and everest stability test. Previously on 1.32V, my load temp went to 100 on core1! but the sink doesnt feel hot at all. And i read so much about maximus bios not reading temp properly, yet my coretemp, everest, pcwizard all read the same temp back to me.

now i am suspecting perhaps the thermal grease is screwed, gotta go get a tube of AS5 soon.

Yes it is. I need 1,312V for 450x8 with my E6750, but I can do that with 1,25VNB and 1,20VFSB, what do you need there?
