p.s. It may have been the low temperatures outside when I was doing the testing, window was open, maybe my room temperature was lower.

sorry guys you were right it was much colder than it is now 19.2C in my room, I think the temps will go over 60C but don't have time to run the test longer gotta work.

I trust everest. I don't even use speedfan. I tried it and i think it sucks more than pcprobe! I still use coretemp to monitor my cores on the fly (everest takes a few seconds to load, coretemp is instant)

65c is ok, not all that great... I have the Gigabyte Galaxy WC kit pre-modded in my case... it's not all that great a system. 3/8" tubing... somewhat noisy pump, but the small rad is the weakest link IMHO. I reached 3.84ghz with it, stable, but cores were close to 80c... so i backed off to 3.6ghz. I don't feel the slightest difference... it only shows in benchmarks.
Maybe I just rely on CoreTemp from now on since SpeedFan gives me about 15-20 degrees difference in temps. Btw, I'm still at 3.2Ghz rock solid stable but I'm gonna move up to 3.4Ghz 2nite. I might as well consider watercooling if I can't reach 3.6Ghz, don't really know if it's worth it.
And you're right, there might not be a difference in performance but we as OCers wanna reach the highest clock as possible right?
P/S: CoreTemp gives me 50 at load @3.2 Ghz and over 80 at full load? Is that normal?

That's impressive for 3.6Ghz at such low temp like that. I'm in CA and the weather doesn't get that cold. I would say the lowest is around 40-45 at night but oh well...as long as I can't reach 3.6Ghz stable, that's all I care.

The performance gain from 3.4GHz to 3.6GHz is very little unless your going to overclock the out of your ram, Core Temp is best to monitor temps.
3.4 should be easy to hit if you have 3.2 stable. I would recomend the 8 multi for bandwidth but thats up to you.

I've said it before, that's the max i would go : 80c on hottest core.

3.2ghz = 80c? what multi is that again? 8x400?
maybe try 9x355, recheck the temps.
maybe try 7x450!

my advice is to not go above 80c. Hey, maybe it can run at 90c for 365days, do you really want to find out??

maybe reseat the cpu fan? If i had to start over, i would probably save a few $ and go with an excellent air setup.

Thanks Grnfinger, good to hear that. (The makes me LMAO)
I'm using 8 multi and it's been stable for me so 425x8 for 2nite. I used the previous version of CoreTemp so it might give me the wrong temp. I'll go ahead and download the latest to run along with a new benchie 2nite as soon as I'll get out of work.

Yeh I use 8x400 for 3.2Ghz. I'll check it out if it goes above 80 when I hit 3.4Ghz 2nite and decide from there.
I don't know what else to get for my cooling since I think the Ultra 120 Xtreme is consider one of the best for air cooling.

I'm testing with 425x8 and 378x9 at 1.41V and both appear to be unstable and fail Prime95 after just couple mins. My core temps at idle are 55-55-47-48 and full load at 93-93-86-86. Don't really know what went wrong and I don't think re-seat could help but I'll do that today and see what happens.

I don't have the CPU, but from an official support point of view, the latest 0907 bios would be best, IMO.

That actually really sucks. Since everything else is air cooled, I don't think the machine would shut down until the water does it's damage.

GD ASUS, wtf are you guys doing over there!!!!!

to make things worse, I'm on Vista 64 so flashing back to an older bios would be a real PITA!

Anyone with insight into this problem PLEASE ADVISE! This drastically decreases the value of this board for h2o. To replace that feature with hardware it would cost quite a few $.

Are you saying the machine should be able to detect a water spill and shut off?

room ambiant air

what brand of thermal paste

I would personally lean towards it being an improper install

Are really none of u dont got this P95 bug? if u set vcore higher then 1.4000v @ bios with multiplier 9x, prime.exe wont load 99%. but with 8x multiplier it wont. Just wait 1 min before it pass test1 then u see the is dropping to 89% instead of 99%.....I really hate it, so I am limited by this, otherwise I could test 4.0ghz.... for 24/7 on air....

I don't think it's the CPU since I get pretty good temp at idle and load (40 idle at 3.4Ghz ain't that good?). And I think Grnfinger might be right about the way I install the heatsink and such. Anyway, FYI:
- Room temp: 45 F
- Case temp: 37 F
- I use the ZM-STG1 that came with when I bought my Zalman 9700.
- I just applied a thin layer and spread on over the CPU surface.

P/S: I might consider water cooling since this gives me enough headache. You guys have any recommendations for a good, budget WC kit?
Not sure on the budget part, but I can help you with WaterCooling PM if interested.
Nothing anymore

No, im's saying overheat protection for the cpu is an important function. It would be nice if I could get it back.

Just got this mb the other day, wish I had the se water cooled mb.Trying to get the oc that other people get (e6600) when I have a good wc setup was getting crazy 1.65Vcore, pll 1.8v and nb 1.7-8 for 425fsbx9 with nb temps at 40C, good right? Wrong.

I now know it is all about cooling the nb. With a 100cfm 120mm fan over the nb, now running 475fsbx8, 1.5Vcore, nb 1.65V and pll at auto with 32C temps on nb with p95.

Now to see if I can get the same to work with the quad.

500fsb first with e6600 I think I will try.
