The Rampage bios is newer than the latest Maximus bios. The Rampage was end of December, the Maximus was mid December. I'm very curious about this, in theory, if Asus do it right, it should pick up after the 0907 Maximus bios for fixes and performance etc...

If someone can show me how to get around the flash protection between models I'll flash it now just to see...

Also In theory, ASUS Update might bypass these. But May Corrupt the bios and/or your windows.

I don't know a easy way to bypass the model checks.

But I did notice yesterday when i was playing with my P5K Deluxe with the newest bios, IT HAD ALL THE SAME FEATURES AS THE MAXIMUS. Just less voltage settings. I was really upset.

I'm @ 3.2Ghz prime stable overnight (>10 hours) and I'm gonna move up to 3.4Ghz 2nite. I notice my CPU temp at full load is 74, is that too high at 3.2?
Also CoreTemp gives me 83 for all 4 cores while Speedfan gives me about 63-65 both at full load. Which one appears to be more reliable? Any versions that give me the accurate temp?

What multiplier are you using?? I'm getting 65c load on a 3.6ghz setting (9x400)

I'm using 8x400 and yeh, I'm on air cooling. My concern is whether CoreTemp or SpeedFan give me accurate temps so I can decide to move on from there. Btw, you get 65 load for all 4 cores at full load? That's impressive, maybe cuz you have WC.

What is the differents if your getting 3.6Ghz using 8x450FSB or 9x400FSB?

Any advantages of having a higher FSB or multipler?

I have see a lot of guys using either setup, or is it just personal preferance?

I'm 1.61v on NB with 61-63C and yeah it gets hot

All of the info you need is in the document entitled Thermal and Mechanical Design Guidelines.....the Tc Max for the X38 is 92C, and you will experience instability with OCing well before this temp I would think....."

I installed an Antec Spot fan in my case. It is blowing directly on the NB heatsink and the temeperatures dropped by 10C ))now I have 42-44C SB 47-51C NB ))))) will try to go higher on the NB Voltage to reach 4.0GHz (which is most propably hopeless on my VID ) but will give it a go

Higher fsb is better do some benchmarks, you'll see I had quite a diference

Either your rig sounds like a wind tunnel or your temps are not displayed correctly.
At 1.50v I highly doubt your load temps are 55c

Well when I'm doing stress test I have th vents set for medium or high and it's a bit loud then (I have a good airflow in the case), but usually I have them set to minimum for gaming and normal usage and it's quiet, i also wrote the range
55-57C, when I get home I wil do some screenshots of the temps, note that the room temp is low, maybe sometimes it's 19C cause I have the window open ) bad habbit of smoking i use latest coretemp. I use Zalman ZM-STG1 paste.

It`s amazing.
I have Temps about 54-56°(load) with 450x8=3,6 @1,312V, nearly the same and I only have dualcore cpu and that low Vcore.
And I have a(n?) good airflow in my system with my 8x120mm and not a bad cpu cooler.

1.50v is bios setting, cpuz is 1.480, as I was saying I will do some more tests at home, now I'm at work

p.s. It may have been the low temperatures outside when I was doing the testing, window was open, maybe my room temperature was lower.

I thought that Maximus always overvolt.I have Vcore to 1.41 in bios and its 1.392 in cpuz.So i guess cpu overvolting is not common.

its the vdrop, that is very commen, but this board doesnt suffer from vdroop, thus idle/load , no differences, on some voltages it actually overvolts!

Higher FSB is best, but I opted to go the 9x route. Temps are more reasonable, and running the stock multi for your cpu is a good idea... It seems more stable for me on the 0907 bios too.

Imagine if you want to reach 4ghz, you will need to go 9x444, as 8x500 is pretty much impossible on this board...

Take a look at Anantech's article regarding OC'ing the 9650. They don't recommend this at all (nor circumventing the vdroop).

I am, but it's a 9650. I upped the volts a little on the CPU PLL and it helped.

coretemp and everest give exactly the same temps for me... As of the latest bios, i do not trust the "cpu" temperature, it's wonky. Trust the core temps.

I trust everest. I don't even use speedfan. I tried it and i think it sucks more than pcprobe! I still use coretemp to monitor my cores on the fly (everest takes a few seconds to load, coretemp is instant)

65c is ok, not all that great... I have the Gigabyte Galaxy WC kit pre-modded in my case... it's not all that great a system. 3/8" tubing... somewhat noisy pump, but the small rad is the weakest link IMHO. I reached 3.84ghz with it, stable, but cores were close to 80c... so i backed off to 3.6ghz. I don't feel the slightest difference... it only shows in benchmarks.

You mean bios option named loadline calibration right?Many have this option enabled and others have it disabled...So whats the optimum set for this?What is the real difference?Does it affect stability?

I have a question about the Overheat protection on this board.

Once I updated to 0907 there is no longer an option for the CPU overheat protection in the BIOS under hardware monitoring. Now it just says "COP EX" in black and the overheat protection for the chipsets. Is there soemthing else in the bios that needs to be set to enable cpu overheat protection? or am i loosing my mind? This used to be an option, right?

Anyone?
