Is it normal that I loose 2 cores when PLL is under 1.6 (1.712 actual)?
    Now I'm running at 9x400 at 1.384V (CPUZ), using Thermalright - 66Celsius@Prime Small-FFT.

My NB voltage is 1.49 (1.520 actual), and it gives me 58 Celsius temps. Is that normal?

Yes I heared this is the cause of to high PLL, and eventually it can kill your chip, I would lower them asap!

It appears when the PLL is to LOW. I need to set it higher to have 4 cores.

Any ideas of what to change next? CPUpll? Can't seem to get past the 2 hour mark on the blend test. Then another core failed at 10 hours. Think it is undervoltage issue or a heat issue? From my experience most undervoltage causes BSOD and restart. Also, it always seems to fail at the end of the tests (IE end of TEST9 to the next test 1).

Set CPU PLL to 1.5v (should be 1.6v+/- real voltage) and see how it does.... also bring your NB voltage to 1.53/1.55v..... crank down your ram voltage, thats running 2.28v in BIOS (in reality its 2.38v+/- maximus overvolts DRAM) I personally use 2.12v for DRAM....

Also set CPU GTL - .63x and NB GTL - .67x and see how it does.

EDIT: What RAM timings and speeds are you trying to get, and what sticks are you using? I can better help you from there.

Ram is the Micron D9, Muskin 4x1GB PC8500 (2.2-2.35v). I set at 2.28 because on my board it is 2.32v (everest) and it seems to be more stable than if I set it lower. However that stability might just be because of other settings. I have it set on 400strap, 450fsb, ddr2-1199. Timings are now set to 5-5-5-12 t2 (subtimings auto), I used to have the anandtech subtimings exactly entered in, but this seems to have more stability.

I already had the x63 and x67 set manually. However, I manually set my PLL to 1.58 in bios and running OCCT set to RAM. Just got back from class and it is still running (2.5hours). What test would be more of an indicator for stability? OCCT-set to ram or Prime 95 Blend? You think I should lower the PLL to 1.5 and see how it does?

Also the pattern I have seen so far, in terms of failure in p95, is that it never fails on the lower fft packets but fails on fft 640k, 768k, 1024k; higher numbers like this.

I'm at 3.0 stable and thinking to move up to 3.2 b4 hitting 3.4 and 3.6Ghz. You guys have any guide for 3.2Ghz stable with 4x1GB RAM? I really appreciate it.
P/S: I'm still using 0602 and it appears to be stable for me, should I upgrade to 0907?

Problem seeing temps using Everest Ultimate

I have a Problem seeing temps using Everest Ultimate. Everest only see's the the W83791 sensor chip. Any reason why it is having a problem. Speedfan see's all sensor chips and see's all temps. But once in a while it gets screwed up and see's only 1 sensor chip. Is it possible I do not have the rght drivers or is it Vista Ultimate the problem???

Using probe see's the temps but it also gets screwed up once in a while!

PS It is not only the temps from the other chips it does not see, it does not see the voltages/fans/etc.

******Found out why! I was using an older version of everest.. The 4.20 version does the trick!

Problem seeing my temps, fan speeds, etc.

Once in while, the indications just get removed. This happens in speedfan, everest, probe, etc..

    Does anyone have this problem?

Do i have to update the drivers for the mobo for these sensor chips?

I am using the air cooled version, and for stable system I really have to set NB to 1.55V. That means 58 Celsius for NB!!! Do you think is that safe? Is it some kind of s**ty thermal compound from factory, or its just the case of X38?

    Hi all.

What kind of overclock should i expect to achieve with my system. Stated in my signiture. I am running at 3ghz stock volts at the moment and my temps are 25 idle and 41 on full load. I would like to get a better oc but not too sure what my cooling can handle.

I have a question about the Overheat protection on this board.

Once I updated to 0907 there is no longer an option for the CPU overheat protection in the BIOS under hardware monitoring. Now it just says "COP EX" in black and the overheat protection for the chipsets. Is there soemthing else in the bios that needs to be set to enable cpu overheat protection? or am i loosing my mind? This used to be an option, right?

I'm 1.61v on NB with 61-63C and yeah it gets hot

quote: "IMO that is a high temp on the NB, but I don't think that it's going to cause any damage. As long as you're stable, it's all good man
CHeck out the data sheet on the X38:
    Link
All of the info you need is in the document entitled Thermal and Mechanical Design Guidelines.....the Tc Max for the X38 is 92C, and you will experience instability with OCing well before this temp I would think....."

Sorry, been offline a lot to test the board and I can only conclude it is really wonky.

The only way I can get it stable is by resetting to the default setting and then by choosing SuperMem Profile (Profile 1). This sets the Crucial Ballistix Tracer 8500 timings to 4-4-4-12 @ 2.2v (Everest reads 1.97v) and everything else is mostly auto.

If I should tweak any settings, it becomes unstable and will fail MemTest+ 1.7. The reason I started tweaking is because while the system is stable it will once in a while fail to boot and get stuck at "det ram."

But after tweaking the system will become unstable and even reverting it back to the setting above will not make it work again. The only way I can get it working is to repeat the process above -- resetting to default and picking SuperMem.

I am really confused. All help is appreciated. Thanks.

PS: I have tested the ram on a different machine and it is working perfectly.

I repeated the test a few times again.

Everything stable when i choose SuperMem but the minute I switch to Manual (I have to cause if not I won't be able to set DRAM voltage) and set the DRAM voltage to 2.1 (the board will over volt to 2.2) it fails the MemTest+ 1.7.

The test it will fail on is Test 6.

If I now pass the OCCT "RAM" Test for 4.5 hours but fail the "Mixed" test in exactly 2 hours, what setting should I change? I mean my when I tested small fft packets in p95 it was stable (8 hours), so I have my CPU and RAM stablized. Maybe the fsbtv too low? I remember setting it higher started causing me problems.

CPUPLL-1.58v(bios) 1.66(hardware monitor) (This too high? It seems to have allowed me to pass the ram test/p95 blend test for 4+hours now)
    NB-1.59(bios) 1.58v(everest) (47C Load)
    FSBtv-1.3v(bios) 1.31v(everest) <<<< Bump up maybe?
    SBv- 1.05(bios) 1.06v(everest)
    DDR2v-2.28(bios) 2.32v(everest) (Warrantied up to 2.35v)

    Any ideas?

As for the CPU PLL discussion. In my case my cpu needs a high PLL to be stable.

I'm running 465 x 8 with 1.52v vcore (lousy G0) . However it needs a quite high PLL 1.66v set in bios, about 1.78v actual. Anything lower and P95 fails withing 10'.

At least the Anandtch's claim that over "1.67v PLL doesn't gains anything" is bs, in my case.

Link me to the settings list and I'll add it.

The Rampage bios is newer than the latest Maximus bios. The Rampage was end of December, the Maximus was mid December. I'm very curious about this, in theory, if Asus do it right, it should pick up after the 0907 Maximus bios for fixes and performance etc...

I'm @ 3.2Ghz prime stable overnight (>10 hours) and I'm gonna move up to 3.4Ghz 2nite. I notice my CPU temp at full load is 74, is that too high at 3.2?
Also CoreTemp gives me 83 for all 4 cores while Speedfan gives me about 63-65 both at full load. Which one appears to be more reliable? Any versions that give me the accurate temp?
