I see that my friend here grnfinger and also electric were going into lapping.

just posted my 2 cent contrib with this little guide, added bonus of fusion block removal/lapping/reseating at

    RAM voltage-which to trust.?

    Hi guys,

well i´m on bios 0903, my transcend 1200 are running at 1147 (573.5x2) 5-5-5-14, bios clock twister strong, trans.booster enabled (0)

everest benchmark read 9799 latency 51.4ns.

bios ram volt is set at 2.18.

bios hardware monitor states ram voltage at 1.92.

everest 4.20.1170 states Dim 2.29V, dim vtt 1.14V

    Which one to trust?

My best bet would go for bios hardware monitor, but that would mean undervolting, right.?

CHeck out the data sheet on the X38:
    Link
All of the info you need is in the document entitled Thermal and Mechanical Design Guidelines.....the Tc Max for the X38 is 92C, and you will experience instability with OCing well before this temp I would think.....

Thx What about my second question ?

    2. Ok and here's the tricky one I tried installing all versions of Pc probe, it installed with no problems but each time I try to run the application I get a blue screen and sys reboots??@#@@!! WHY?
Same thing happens with AI tweaker(I don't really use it cause I change the settings in BIOS)
Maybe there is a different application showing NB and SB temps? Or how to make the Pc probe work?

AI Suite is crap and should not be used, alot of ppl have issues with it.
PC Probe, I dont use it so I cannot say, CoreTemps CPUZ and Everest are your best choices imo

And I have a question for you... I see your have a lucky VID of 1.325, have you tried to clock higher than 3.6? and if so what voltage did you use / try?

    Hi there
Does everest show the temps of NB and SB?
Lucky?! I thought mine is bad cause the VID is high??
I did try, but I thought that my cooling is not enough for more, I also thought that I reached the maximum fsb for this VID 1325?
and the cpu voltage is high I think
But most of all NB, I'm thinking of mounting a fan over the heat sink, but didn't figure it out how yet

I have the same VID as you ( I was being sarcastic about the lucky part) and I have the same issues, I can get 4.0 but the volts and heat are insane and I'm on water, plus it craps out after 10 mins on prime

Everest is very nice it show everything, NB SB temps volts, it is very versatile.

Higher NB temps can lead to memory/FSB instability.....so best to keep it cool for higher FSBs.

About PC Probe, what OS are you running? I would uninstall AI tweaker, or whatever it's called....I've yet to find a version that works yet :p
The only temp monitoring app I use is Everest Ultimate, and it reports everything accurately for me in Vista x64. I just reinstalled VIsta, so I haven't got to Everest yet.....but if you want the build I can get it for ya.

Speaking of which, how do I get rid of the damned "Can't load ASIO.SYS(2) message on every boot?

There's not a lick of Asus software left installed, nothing in the registry that I can find, no services running, etc. Vista x64 SP1.

What's in it for me? If Asus makes a bios that clocks my Q6600 to 550 fsb, I will do it for free.

    Another BSOD....

    Windows Vista64 report:

    Problem caused by computer hardware

This problem was caused by an unrecoverable hardware error that caused the operating system to stop functioning.

    Troubleshooting

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have received this error more than once, it could indicate a serious problem with your computer. We recommend that you do the following:

Back up your files to avoid data loss in case of a complete hardware failure.
Contact the original manufacturer of your computer to determine the specific component which is failing.
    Additional technical information

Although we know the problem is caused by a hardware component, the error report does not contain enough information to tell us the specific component. It is likely that the problem is being caused by one of the following computer components:

    Random Access Memory (RAM)
    System board
    Central Processing Unit (CPU)
    Power supply

For all you having random bsod issues, try disabling voltage calibration and see if that helps. Had the same issues with bios 907 until I disabled it.

i have ver 2.3 for the rams. so that means i can't try to overclock these rams at all??

    thanks for the help guys
v2.3 means you are using Qimonda IC's (v2.x uses Qimonda), forget your hopes of getting 1120/1200mhz stable... theres a chance they might clock good but I wouldnt hold my breath. It will run rated specs of 1066 5-5-5-15 just fine, but not much more.

The voltage part may ring true, according to Everest they need 2.20
I would assume your using v1.x and that is still Micron based 8500's.

What divider setting and timings are you using? I'm sure you've posted it but I can't find it anywhere...

More data on my random BSOD... Got two more one after another.

    Got this message:

«A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval.»

Then starts dump memory to disk and holds Blue Screen information... Need to shutdown to came back on.

use more volts, It sounds like your overclock is not stable.
