Yah, will program any of those Bios chips thats what makes DFI such great mobo everything is replaceable on them even Bios Chips To answer you're question yes I do as well as Abit and other Mobo Manufactures as long as the the Bios chip is removable

bah just tried my qx9650 and board with 0913 BIOS, forgot it prob wouldnt work with old BIOS. keeps rebooting on error code 88. so tried my cellie in and now its stuck on C1 error, tried clearing CMOS over and over. damn I shouldve flashed to later BIOS while I still had the QX6850. any ideas guys, I mean it should be working with the cellie no?

@DJSub Can you do 1:1 relatio and 6x600 for the cpu, it will get you significatly better spi times. And, tell me how faster is the new bios? I think on putting it.

I have some serious problems..

So i have this kit, with the last bios ( 12/24 ), if i set something from the bios, what need to reset the board ( like changing the FSB or changing the latencies ) i got 88 error code and thats all. If i turn off the system from the power button and i wait like 10 min and i turn on after that everything works fine with the new bios settings.

If i turn off the PSU or unplug the power cord or smth like that, after power on the coolers spins up, but the diagnostic led wont light up .
If i swap the cpu with another one ( E6700, E6850, E2140 ) its ok, and after that when i put back the QX9650 its ok too.

Try to power off by button if you see 88 and wait like 10 min, then power on.

doesnt sound good. well at least it boots for you, for me never but then again it might with later BIOS. when i get home later will get th E4300 from the mrs rig and pop it in and flash to latest BIOS then hopefully it will at least boot default settings.

Hey guys,

Well, ive had this board a week now, and so far im loving it. Had good success, and despite not having a lot of time ive got my Q6600 up to 3.4ghz so far. Also been playing around with the GTL's which make a hell of alot more difference than I expected.

Anyways, I have one thing I wanna run past you all about the strap settings. I am running 2x2gb of memory (see sig) and some of the straps seem extremely flaky. Now I know the 266/1066 and 333/1066 are known for this after reading OCZ Tony's thread on the OCZ forums, but the 266/667 and 333/667 straps wont work for me either at all. I just get C1 memory error whenever I try to use them - even stock settings.

The 266/800 and 333/800 straps work fine, and ive been using those for the overclocking ive been doing. But it would be great to have a few more options to play with. Timings im using are below, although thats running on a 333/800 strap. The same are used when i try either 266/667 or 333/667 - quite loose for trying to get the straps to work! I'll work on tightening these if/when i have some success.



In addition Channel CLK Crossing Settings are both set to relaxed, & vdimm is 2.1v.

Any thoughts/tips greatly appreciated

Have you tried any other memory on the same strap and setup? Or is it just your OCZ maybe. I had some timing issues with GKX microns, although GMH have no problems.
Try swaping the slots or perhaps other bios for that matter.
Here's some info from anandtech about straps, you'll find that the best you can use are among the ones you can use so i believe there is no real need for the ones that don't.

Why Choose the 266/667 and 333/800 Ratios?

Both of these Northbridge strap/divider combinations offer the best balance between performance level and FSB capabilities within sensible voltage ranges. We are interested in five key attributes to provide an intelligent overclock for all-around performance in games and workstation software, these are:

* Raw CPU MHz per volt
* Memory bandwidth
* Memory/chipset latency
* Memory copy speeds
* Memory write speeds

In our testing as we try to attain a balance of these criteria, we have many choices of strap and memory dividers on this motherboard. Using the 800 NB strap gives us the prospect of great latency; however, we lose RAM bandwidth/copy/write speeds due to the somewhat low FSB limits of the 800 strap. Copy and write speeds suffer especially as they are not affected to any great extent by the performance Levels of interest within our target range, although they are rather affected by FSB levels.

Herein lies the potential advantage of the P35 chipset. Having been designed from the ground up with quad-core CPUs in mind, we have at our mercy increased FSB and performance level margins over previous chipsets. It is mandatory to explore these advantages in order to satisfy the justification of an "upgrade" from older hardware.

This brings us to the 266/667 strap. We found this strap allowed for 2GB RAM overclocks between 450/475FSB. The maximum the board will hold absolutely stable for most users is around 475FSB with the 266/667 or 1333/800 NB setting (with judicious GTL tuning if one is not to succumb to a brute force approach of using excessive voltages without tuning the BIOS with finesse), using a performance level (read delay) of 6 for 266 or 7 for 333.

Thanks for the reply... i realise I can make do with 333/800, its more than an irritance than a major problem. Im just a little undecided about this memory atm, but im not sure if its the board needs more tweaking or the memory itself thats the problem. I did consider 4x1gb of OCZ Flex 9200 that they use in that anandtech review u quoted, but cost made me give these a shot

I have 2gb of Cellshock D9GKX here, which is actually why I bought the OCZ - partly because I wanted 2gb, and partly cos I heard there were a few issues with GKX on this board/p35. I might throw it in later and see what it does though.

The LanParty always have tons of tweaking, you need to arm yourself with a lot of patience if you are going to brake it. I ave the board for 2 months now and still havent find out how much performance gain each tweak gets.
As for the memory, yes OCZ Flex is too expensive, perhaps you can try Crucial Ballistix, they are cheap and fast as hell. Either that or TeamXtreem. I'm getting the second one 9600 kit.
The GKX issues i get are that some tweaks won't work but apart from that, the board is an absolute peach.

quad core cpus can't do 600fsb even on LN2
most quad proc can only do 445-493fsb on air cooling

MikeMK your not the only one not able to boot on either 266/1066 or 333/1066, I just get the "C1" error. In fact every set of dividers except 266/800 and 333/800 give me either "C1" or poor performance/reliability? Like you said though this is not a major problem just an annoyance.

I cant use the 1066 dividers either, even up to the very latest bios without C1 errors. For me the 266/667 boots fine but is hard to keep stable under stress. I constantly find the 333/800 strap the easiest to work with in terms of maintaining stability while I continue to push the system higher in speed.

got it flashed to latest BIOS and now boots fine with QX9650 but having huge problems getting any sort of decent clocks stable and this Yorkie is a known good clocker so a bit disappointing so far though im going to start from the ground up with everything at stock and change a few things at a time in case its going to require totally different settings to the QX6850(which it seems it is).

Anybody here with a Yorkie and good overclock care to share all settings?
