Well, got mine today, will not have time to throw in the quad till wednesday though...

Ace-a-Rue, your posts have been great, I am looking to do better than my 3.825 24/7 crunching on WCG cpu load @ 100%, which I have been, and am currently doing on my striker extreme. Hoping for the promised land of 4GHZ 24/7 stable. We shall see, as long as I can equal the 24/7 clocks I will be happy though, just to be done with the nvidia chipset.

good luck...is your new quad a QX9650?...if so, will be interested in hearing how it goes especially with vista install...XP SP2 was fine at 4400 mhz...vista was touch-n-go at stock speeds...it is either the bios or a combination of the bios and 9650 when it comes to installing and making vista work.

i am about ready to shutdown and pull the 9650 (to send back to clubit.com for replacement)...i think i will insert my Q6600 to see if that coooperates with the bios and vista...if it does, then i would lean more towards something is wrong with the 9650.

quick questions guys, between nb and vtt voltages, what is the more important factor in gettin a quad stable?

During prime if the prime95 program shuts off or computer reboots w/out a bsod it means it lacking voltages right?

No, Q6600, will probably grab QX9770 when they become available though. My first EE cpu, but the high fsb, low multi options of the other Yorkies do not leave much headroom for clocking, so given no choice it looks like.

It's for resetting the Real Time Clock which is part of the Southbridge in case of battery removal. I've never needed to do that though so not sure what circumstances warrant it's use.

The only way Intel will do anything is to run the CPU on one of their boards so you would be able to monitor temps with their software.

I'll be loading both 32 and 64 Bit Vista this weekend with a Q6600. Will post any issues.

Kind of like asking winch is more important, food or water. The right amount of both are required to clock the processor. VTT has a large effect on processor speed as it is the setpoint for the GTL swings. The NB voltage is influenced quite a bit by memory speed and timings.

Very much looking forward to your results with Q6600, saw your post with settings for 3.6 with moderate voltage changes. If you have a chance would like to see some settings for 425-450x9 3.825-4.05ghz would be great. Curious if it is possible to get that 24/7 stable on this board.

That's really more dependent on the processor then the board. Q6600 processors as a group normally require the voltages pushed too far for true 24/7 stability at those speeds.

Im not too concerned about memory right now, just want to get my quad stable.

So VTT has an larger affect, thank you

Yeah, I realize that those are pretty CPU dependent speeds, I am currently 3.825 24/7 stable crunching @ 100% cpu on WCG on a Striker Extreme. 1.47V on the cpu, was hoping for 4GHZ on the DFI @ ~1.55V, we shall see.

I am impatient to get started with this board, but want to wait for my graphics cards to arrive, not till Wednesday for those. So going to have to live vicariously through the rest of you.

Any help or suggestions you might be willing to give regarding setting up the bios on this board would be appreciated. It has been a long while since I have had a DFI board, and that one was AMD, so all new, and all fun this time around.

from my experience with the q6600 on this board I would say the 1.55 range is correct for 4ghz on this board, however I think your pwm and nb voltages for that clock (@current bios version) will be very high. It's worth a shot, I'm betting you will see a gain at the least.

Thanks for the input snipe, any chance you wanna post some of your bios settings, and what you have accomplished.

All the help I can get to make this a smooth transition would be appreciated.

    Thumbs up

OK!...back up with the DFI board and my 'good' Q6600...booted into windows XP and Vista 32 OEM at 3960 mhz....as far as i can tell, the board and this processor are working fine...SO...what i think what went wrong was the QX9650 was defective and freaking intel tech support guy wouldn't listen.

anyway, i need to know who has a 9650 on this board and can boot into vista 32 or 64 overclocking the heck out of the cpu?...tell me your mhz and what bit version of vista.

    Good with a e6850. I just installed a q6600 in last night,, bench's today.

I hope dfi comes out with a bios to support the Wolfdales and Yorkfields, the ones with the ".5" multiplier, before the chip does..

The support will be there. The highlighted entry is for half multipliers.

Is anyone connecting the floppy power connectors when running 2 Graphics cards. I just saw them in the manual, and it asks they be plugged in for multiple gpu support. I will be running two 3870's using an OP1000 PSU, is this really necessary, as some modification to my PSU will be necessary, as only one floppy connector is available on the PSU.

is anyone using any 3rd party memory coolers on this board with the stock heatsink? i.e. the thermalright hr-07's?
looking at the pics it doesnt look like there would be enough room for them?
