Finally got around to taking backside photos of my card which has a blue PCB. Any ideas where to measure GPU and Mem volts ?

Thanks Jimmyz!

Bo fox, with regards to HIS HD3850 IceQ3 bios and this guide http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...8&postcount=35 which lines in bios you editing in hex editor ?

Using Hxden my HIS HD3850 IceQ3 bios is default 720/910

720mhz reverse hex = 401901
910mhz reverse hex = 786301
voltage next to these entries has reverse hex = BE04 = 1.214v

When i search for these values, there's 6 results. 1 entry at near top of file, and 5 entries grouped close together.

EDIT: okay found what you changed using hexcmp2 compared to my bios

Mine gives me A400, then i changed the frequency, and redid the checksum thing, so it gave me A600, now open up the windows Calculator, switch to Scientific, then Hex, put in A600 then subtract A400, you'll get 200, that's what you want to subtract from the file anywhere.

As you don't want to mess the file up, so you'll just goto the only part you're sure 100% is trash (the connect your cable part, only words on the screen when used), and start overwriting it a bit by bit, put 00 at the beginning of it, then recalculate the checksum, and so on until you get a number close to A400 again, let's say after some 00 replacements you got A3D4, then subtract it from A400, you'll get 2C, replace one of the 00 you put in with 2C, voila, your correct checksum.

As usual, my tutorial sucks, and is long for no reason, but works :P, i re-flashed my BIOS without the -f parameter, and it worked.

Thanks oohms, for pointing out the thread .

No problem.

I heard that Qimonda are burning out at higher than 2000, is that true, i'm not sure if yours are that brand or Samsung, but better check it out, or just keep it at 2000 for now.

Thanks very useful info

Question do we need to edit 2D voltages for higher 3D clocks ? Or editing 3D voltages only is fine ?

I just edited my 512MB HIS HD3850 IceQ3 bios (dated 29/11/07) - changing 3D voltage to 1.327v and clocks from 720/910 to 736/982 and fixed checksum to original bios (7300).

Then compared it to Bo Fox's HIS HD3850 3870 Load bioz (dated 28/11/07) which had clocks set at 736/982 with 2D and 3D voltage changes.

Attached is winrar file with my bios and bo fox's along with the differences.txt file from hexcmp2.

Bioses http://fileshosts.com/videocards/HIS...50_bioskit.rar

Weird, tried flashing my bios and it flashed but when i go into windows rivatuner is blank and doesn't report a card at all .. flashed back to original bios for now.. anyone take a look at my bioses and see what i did wrong ?

When flashed the reported device id and new bios version are also blank for me ???

thanks

edit: flashed with Bo fox's HIS 3850 736/982 with 2D/3D volt modded and that worked fine clocking to 837/1098 for 3dmark05/06

IMO its best to do it from a usb drive, make boot disk from it and then flash.

Flashing is easy. I don't have a floppy so I went an alternate route. I created a boot DVD with Nero. I set my DVD as the first boot device. When I post with the DVD in the drive the system goes right to Dr. Dos. I've got Atiflash on my C drive with all the BIOS I like to play with. Then I just go to C and atiflash -p -f <adapter number> <bios name>.rom. Reboot. Works like a charm. Make darn sure you remove your driver before doing this. I get both cards with no issues. I have 3850 crossfire. I do the one at 1 first then 0, reboot.

I wish I could get my hands on a BIOS that upped voltage and did not break OD.
Shortened the name and works perfectly under Dos. Cheers

Good point and I should have mentioned that. I always alter my extensions to .rom and shorten the name. Like for a modified Powercolor BIOS named Powercolor7801029 I may rename it power1.

1st card does 837mhz GPU
2nd card does 824mhz GPU

haven't tested max mem yet past 1152Mhz.

Gunna freeze this card tonight, hopefully I can get past that 800mhz limit I had before, otherwise I know its a BIOS issue.

strange I still seem to be doing something wrong using hxden to edit my bioses ?

And still when using atiflash 3.49 when i flash to 810/999 version my bios version goes blank ??? flash back to bo fox's version and fine ??

attached bo fox's bios and my 810/999 and also 810/999 with same checksum as original 736/982 bios of 7500 (this one flashes with bios version intact but rivatuner shows blank device)

i tried bo_fox's bios with 3870 voltages, flash was good and i have now 2d/3d clocks working properly, overdrive also works but somehow my core still stuck at 763mhz
any ideas why i can't go over 763 mhz? the card iddles at 42ºC and full load peak is 63ºC...
with 3870 voltages my card should heat a bit more but it didn't happened, weird stuff...

another question: what's the best way to find max core? how do you guys do it?

thx in advance

edit: i double checked and overdrive doesn't work, not a big deal lol

Hey.
I just bought Gigabyte's HD3850 512MB with Zalman cooler.
My cards core went up to a stable 785 core and 900 mem @ 3D Mark06. Crysis crashed with those settings.

From Rivatuner i got this info:

$ffffffffff ----------------------------------------------------------------
$ffffffffff ATI VGA BIOS information
$ffffffffff ----------------------------------------------------------------

Is it possible for me to go for 900 core and 1000 mem. If someone is willing to mod my bios?
my bios version is: .068

But now the problem for me is to save my current bios. So far i am not able to do that. If i make a MS-DOS disk, i can access it in windows, but it wont boot up from restart. 1st boot device is put to Floppy. But it says Floppy Disk fail "40". So far i am not able to make bootable USB thumbdrive as well

@Viilutaja

just save your bios with Atiwinflash, open AWF hit the save button, choose a name and you are set.

Ok, thanx, i got it saved. Can anyone mod this bios for higher 3D clock voltage?

I also looked what memorys are on the PCB. There was:

Hynix
HY5RS123235B
FP-14 731A

VTFF1400G1

For me its really hard to read out what kind of ns those memory modules have

@eva2000, glad to hear that your card also benefits nicely from my bios. when editing, just edit the grouped-together parts, not all 6. After editing something, the checksum will need to be corrected again before flashing for better compatibility ( I think)..

@zuelber, maybe it's because HIS bios cannot change voltages with other brands? What's your brand?

Ok, then where should it be penciled for a Vcore increase? Yeah, the HIS IceQ3 blue card.. it seems to be different from other 512MB 3850 brands from what I've seen..

before

2x 512MB HIS HD3850 IceQ3 default 720/910 oc'd to 783/1098mhz CF via ATI CCC.

after

1st card does 837mhz GPU
2nd card does 824mhz GPU

haven't tested max mem yet past 1152Mhz.

Just curious.. how are you overclocking those 2 cards in Crossfire? I'm guessing Rivatuner because I didnt think that RT supports dual-overclocking??

in Crossfire i revert to stock bioses without voltage bios mod.. so stock bios no mods CF clocks are @783-796Mhz GPU for both cards with mem at 1098mhz all done via ATI CCC overdrive.

Oh so you only edited 5 out of the 6 entries for for 3d clocks.. wonder if that makes a difference as i have yet to be able to make myself a 810/1000 bios that works heh

How do you get so high memory clocks? Mine goes only to 880 with ATI Auto-tune. And in rivatuner the 900 seems to be as far as she goes
Does this Hynix memory suck.

And anybody? Can somebody help me to mod my bios, even if someone would help me to find those hex values what to change, i am up to do those myself.

no idea.. both my cards probably have samsung memory with rivatuner in single card without ATI CCC can clock memory to 1152mhz without artifacts and 1172mhz with very very minor artifacts.

I think I reached my limits. Anything higher crashes 3DMark06 halfway through the first test.

I have a Powercolor Xtreme 512mb but the retail bios was a HIS 067, that's why i tried your bios. With retail bios i can't overclock 1Mhz even with CCC. Is atitools accurate for artifacts scan? Cause that's how i found a 763 mhz core limit and i didn't tried anything higher than that, should i?

I have no idea how you guys even get atitool to work. The only util I can use is riva.

I can do about 1100-1110mhz mem with this qimonda. Some say it dies at those speeds tho so I generally just run it at 1000-1030.
