Caped Crusader Try orthos on CPU test only to see if the CPU is stable. After stabilize CPU, then do cpu and mem test and stabilise memory. If your system is not stable, it will crush when you less expect it.

    Hi guys,

    First post for me here

I was wondering if it was really worth flashing my original bios (>signature) for the f5? I've readed that Dinos22 was saying it should be better(when having a quad) but is there any additionnal feedback ?

I got this mobo and ram yesterday and 'must say that I'm pretty glad the way it goes til now !
I'l take my time to manage this correctly coz it's my first ddr3 rig.

    bye

    Thanks

As far as vcore goes, I'm waiting for a new PCP&C 750W to arrive this week. Do you think that its single-rail 12v line will help me get stronger vcores, I mean, steadier vcores, without having to raise them past 1.40v? I'm not at all confortable with crossing the 1.40v (although most users say it's safe to), at least not until I change to a better cpu cooler. And I'm not to keen on loosing up the FSB to 425x8 too, now I'm used to having 3.6Ghz

Just for the record, I have every other overvoltage control on BIOS on NORMAL, except for PCI-E (+0.10v) and DIMM (+0.25v). Not sure if I should up the (G)MCH too...

    ChrissTi,

    Your the man

I finally got a succesful OC at 400x9 using the 2.00B with mem set to auto. PCI-e is +1C and Dramm is +2C. (around 2.1V total). My vcore is set to 1.4625, but my CPU temps are real low (in the 40s at full load) thanks to my Zalman 9700. CPU-z reports core temps in the 30s.

Even better, I finally found a combo that will work with my OC'd 8800 GTS video card and stay stable. Before crysis would crash, but with the new OC and my Video Card settings of 752/1878/1022, crysis is finally stable (use to crash at 770/1923/1090 or higher even when bios was at a less aggressive OC).

Funny thing is, I did get one Prime95 torture test error, but no memtest errors and benchmarks didn't crash. But the biggest test was playing Crysis, which didn't crash while set to all maximum high settings after 1 hour of play.

3DMark06 score of 14,814. I did get a slightly higher behchmark with a more aggressive OC to the graphics card but was not stable. So I am happy with my new settings.

Nice going panzer948. Looks like a Happy New Year for you!

I have a simple question for you. In your signature, you say that you have memory of 8GB (2 x 2GB), which has me confused. Is it 8 or 4???

    Best to all in 2008.

From which fsb is it better to put some more volts at the fsb on the X38T ?

WOOPS!! I have a Vdroop of 0.8volts... the little test I did was CPU-ZLib Everest, not too demanding despite it heats the cpu quiet strongly right ?

Is there any possibility of pencil modding this mobo ?

I have problems overclocking my X38-DQ6 further than 400FSB.

    System:
    E6850
    KHX PC8500 CL5
X38-DQ6 (newest Beta-BIOS from Gigabyte Homepage)

System runs absolutely stable with 9x400 (1.38V) and DDR2-1200 (5-5-5-16 and 2.25V), if I set the FSB to 401 in BIOS -> Bluescreen while booting Vista
if I set the FSB to 401 in Windows (SetFSB) -> Bluescreen

Even if I lower the MEM divider...

I have tried to up any voltage (vfsb, vmch, ...) but nothing helps, even with 1.42V Vcore I can't boot.

I recently switch from AMD to Intel, so I'm not that experiecend with that Intel stuff

    Any suggestions?

I think I've tested nearly all dividers, but I'll give it a try tomorrow.

panzer948 are you sure your cpu temps are in the 40's at full load 400x9 on air cooling?

I noticed that mistake in my sig after posting, which I now have corrected. I copied that & other parts out of my Newegg wish list which included 2 modules of 2 GB ram, which I bought two of for a total of 8. I do a lot of photoshop and video editing, so I wanted to be prepared to handle those large files.

let me guess its worker thread 3 that fails?
Actually it was thread 1, why do you ask? Would you guys be concerned?

I have been using speedfan to monitor during benching and it lists Cores 0 thru 3. Looking back over my notes, I do see it spiked a little over 50 during 3Dmark06, so I stand corected there. The bios set to control the CPU fan seems to work pretty quick.

Hey, just found out a way to minimize the vdroop effect when on load: I raised the GTLREF1 on BIOS (accessible via CTRL+F1) to +3.00% from NORMAL and now my vdroops don't exceed -0.01v

The downside is that the core temp goes +5ºC on average under load... but at least he can take +30min of OCCT without complaining.

For the GA-X38T-DQ6, it seems that my F2 BIOS is doing just fine with overclocking my E6750 to 3.6Ghz and Corsair DDR3 to 1800/7-7-7-20. Any overclocking improvement with the other BIOS' like the F3a?

I also have rev 1.0. Any of you have rev 1.1. Couldn't see what the difference was on gigbyte's website. thanx

Thanks very much for the advice guys.

Supershanks, I keep that setting disabled always (the performance enhance for memory). If you need to see all my memory settings, let me know.
Also, where can I find F7H or any F7x ? I've looked but can't find anything above F6...

At this point I'm almost certain it's a ram problem which is strange - it being new and all but, everything else was working fine before getting it in.

going to try F5H then G right now. Will let you know how it goes.

UPDATE: Prime95 is working for 10 mins! without crashing at 400 bus and 400-5.5.5 memory (F5G). So fingers crossed. Going to drop to 4.4.4.12 now while in Windows and see if things freeze. Something I forgot to mention is that my ram is watercooled and a few chips are only half-cooled because theres not enough room to cool them all. But I highly doubt this would cause such crashing.

Well, with 400mhz bus and 500mhz memory 4.4.4.12, a few cores in Prime95 (blend) have crashed after between 2 and 6 minutes while one is still going but... no total freeze. Hmm. The memory should really do 500 4.4.4 but it's likely just low clocking memory that needed a later bios revision to run even default speeds.

Very likely that the introduction of the new G.Skill modules introduced a problem that could only be resolved with a later bios revision than F4, even though my old G.Skill worked fine in combo with my q6600 and dq6. Strange eh, but it goes to show how fickle modern systems can be.

Rob94hawk some everest benches to see how big is the difference between ddr2 ddr3 ?

Frostybyte your problem may be Crucial Ballistix 2x512MB. What are the working timings specified by the manufacturer on these ?
