Without a doubt gonna be 1Gb. Memory size has always double or remained the same from generation to generation. The exception is the geforce 8 series but the g92 showed that nvidia didn't like the weird jump to 384bit and will more than likely go to 512bit. This is the bell ringer for those specs posted at vr-zone being bs.

The real question is shaders. Since unified shaders are brand new we can't really tell what a realistic jump in them would be for a completely new generation. Best bet is to look at the progression of programmable vertex/pixel shaders that started with the g3. From series to series the total amount jumped anywhere from 33 to 100% for g5 through g7 series initially released gtx/ultra card.

    So replace 2Gb gddr5 512bit with 1Gb gddr4 512bit and count on 176 to 256 shaders.

I've actually heard that GDDR5 is in production now

GDDR4 has been in prodcution since 2005. It took until 2007 to see it in graphics cards.

For me the info is purely made up

Anyway, I might stay with my 7900 gs and wait for the G9 series if they are reasonably priced

i would make the step and buy a 9800GTX if it is priced in the 600$ range.

dunno, but nvidia might release a 9800 Ultra or so with 2 GB Ram... but a regular GTX? nah... i'm pretty sure we wont see more than 1 GB on 9800 GTX.

the memory clock also seems too high to me, not that i woudnt want it... but lets stay real.

besides that, the info kinda contradicts each other, i mean increase the transistor count, bump up the clocks and end up with lower tdp than 8800 GTS just doesnt make too much sense to me.

What you call shens and it is so bad that it's like saying 2GB 512-bit 850/3200 R680 80% the power of 512MB 256-bit 750/2300 RV670. The power figures are highly out of the butt for the specs esp. for 65nm.

probably G80 based GTS and then factor in the fact that GDDR5 would use less energy

that's what happens when 3d mark becomes CPU limited and NOT limited by your hardware's ability render 3d objects.

    VR-zone finally sourced it:

    Source thread googenglished

As far as I can tell, it's a prediction from a Nvidia insider?

They state this is how it stands, but will change depending on what R700 is. (kind of like how D9P is coming earlier than planned?)

It says they are indeed skipping GDDR4. It will take Samsung 6 months into 2008 to have GDDR5 available?

More expensive than past high-end products, in big part because of GDDR5.

Better core headroom, TDP based on 8800gts running at the same core speed. (which actually kind of makes sense)

    Retooling of core...Virtual SPs...(1.3-1.5x performance)...only 128 'real' SPs.

May use 55nm depending on R700 yields

...and most of all, it's a big ol GUESS.

We all remember what the jump was like to the 8800 series of cards. I am sure there were threads just like this with all the speculation before release. That being said this card almost seems too much. Nice if true though.

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

for the most part its just double the specs of the g92 8800gts yet it says it consumes less power than an 8800gts.... i dunno about that one.

True at anything less that the highest res with AA and AF there's absolutely no difference, But most gamers are all about getting that ultimate image quality!!

But on the same page we also see that even with all that memory and quality, the GPU still pushes a low FPS, though if the new GPU's are fast enough to push our next gen games along at a decent FPS with mega high res then might aswell have the memory to accomodate it.

They are also working on getting the memory alot faster to. I think this will help with the bottle neck of how much vRAM vs the bus width and ram frequency.

What are all you guys so exited about?

I mean, ATI already had that 9800 Radeon long time a go, heck there even was a 9800pro and XT version.

I'm sure having that card in your system won't make you happy nowadays so you guys can just take it easy and enjoy that 8800's of yours, no need to go jumping up and down really.
