I use Asus Update v6.10.02 to downgrade my bios from 0804 to 0601. Need enable "BIOS downgrade" in option menu, then flash back to old bios version.

It didn't work for me... just says "Incorrect motherboard version"!
However, if you did it so, you're very lucky... AsusUpdate is well known for bios corruption et similia!!!

P.S. still making 3700 in 3dmark with my 8800 ultra, tomorrow i'm going to the vendor in order to change the vga... hope this will just solve, or i'll rma the mobo...

Ugg, I hope to one day track down what is causing this PC to crash 1+ times a day.

Random lockups, usually while doing NOTHING. It rarely crashes when doing something.

Is there a good way to determine what component is causing the crashes? I doubt it is the CPU Overclocked, because even at low settings, have the same result.

Windows reports no issues with the RAM, maybe I should test with another app?

Prime95 running 1 thread on each core completes with NO errors.

Same results with 501,704,804, and soon i'll try 903 (804 was the worst due to VDIMM bug)

CPU is not overheating during crash, neither is GPU.

    CPU: QX9650
    MB: P5E3 Deluxe/Wifi-AP
    RAM: Corsair XMS3 1600mhz 7-7-7-20
    PSU: PC&C Silencer 750
    GPU: eVGA 8800 Ultra

very random crashes. Sometimes BSOD, sometimes not.

Set everything in BIOS to MANUAL and tried many settings.

I am new to overclocking and have a couple questions for you experts here. I have the P5E3 WiFi, 1600mhz DDR3 RAM, and the 9650 Yorkfield processor. What I want to know is this: what is the max voltage I should be using and the max temperature I should want to reach? Thanks much in advance. I am trying to get in a good overclock.

    I have watercooling, I used 1.6-1.65V for testing, but only 20-30 min. 24/7 1.41V BIOS 4Ghz (10x400), 1.3V 3.6Ghz (9x400)....

What is your CPU voltage set at.... Had similar problem... Up-ed volts and presto... worked like a charm... also make sure your Load-Line Calibration is enabled... On the other hand your NB voltage could be too low especially if it’s set to auto... Just a thought...

Have it set at 1.4v and Load-Line Calibration is enabled. I haven't seen others have to go over 1.4 for 4ghz. I'm currently @ 1.4v @ 400x9 and it has the same instability as 400x10.

I did bump the NB up very slightly, maybe .1v, was using auto previously. What should be needed for 400FSB I just want a simple 400x10 for 4Ghz.

Not sure about the QX9650 voltage... I use the Q6600 - I try not to exceed 40C idle & max temps of around 57-58C... Anything higher for extended periods of time could decrease the life expectancy of your CPU (I've heard allot of people say 60-70’s okay, but that comes down to how comfortable you are with it)... Its only money…

Check out the following Articals - Lots of good info about the P5E3 and OC'ing

Well there's a big difference between 400x9 and 400x10 in terms of GHz... Something else you can look at is your DRAM voltage / enter your Rams rated voltage... The auto feature on this board causes more problems than it’s worth... It’s a great idea if you’re not OC'ing... But it has a tendency to provide either too many volts or not enough... Try setting everything manually for more stable results - OC your CPU first w/ auto DRAM settings, Once everythings stable you can tweak your ram....

1.4v - is that the actual voltage set into the bios or what the CPUZ/EVEREST indicates??

By the way what is your NB voltage…???

Great guide for OC'ing your CPU.... Lots of Good info by -----> Graysky

Here are my bios settings for the Q6600 w/Liquid Cooling (Stable)

Just thought I would post a current photo of my PC with the P5E3

I realize this thread's not the place to post pictures of PC's, but I just wanted to show it off... Will remove if it annoys anyone...

NB Voltage has been upped to just before it turns yellow.. I've forgot what that was now.

Ram is set to 1.8v as specified. Have tried 1.9 with no improvement.

I realize there is a big difference between 400x9 and 400x10, but that would make me think 400x10 should be much more unstable then 400x9, but it is not. I even dropped my ram down to below DDR-1333 and still unstable.

Nothing but Southbridge is set to Auto.

1.4v set in bios. 1.36 I believe is what I often saw delivered to CPU. I've just upped it to 1.41

CPUZ says 1.384 to 1.416 ... mainly staying at 1.384

    --edit--

SuperPI is really great for crashing the system.

    Nitroburn,

I know you must be frustrated... I wish I could give you the key settings to make everything better, but unfortunately I'm not too familiar with the Qx9650 / Corsair Ram... I'm almost tempted to purchase the CPU.... I've seen allot of good results...

    Questions
    - Have you been updating your bios from your OS or Bio?
    - What version of Bios are you currently using?
    - What OS are you using?
    - What's your Rams voltage range (For example mine is 1.75-1.85)

    Now back to your problem...

Start from scratch... Clear RTC RAM / Reset Defaults / Reload v903 From Bios / Exit & Restart System.... Refer to manual for guidance....

Start OS with all default settings in place / check for stability.....

If everything works - go to the next step

Start Bios and enter the following settings

    Ai Overclock Tuner: Manual
    CPU Ratio Control: Manual
    CPU Ratio Settings: 9
FSB Strap to North Bridge: Auto
    FSB Frequency: 444
    PCIE Frequency: Auto
    DRAM Frequency: Auto
    DRAM Command Rate: Auto
    DRAM Timing Control: Auto
    -------------------------------
    CPU Voltage: 1.44
    CPU PLL Voltage: Auto
    FBS Termination Voltage: Auto
DRAM Voltage: Auto --- Try Auto First Then Insert 1.9
    NB Voltage: Auto
    SB Voltage: Auto
    Clock Over-Charging Voltage: Auto
    Load-Line Calibration: Enabled
    CPU CTL Voltage Reference: Auto
    NB GTL Voltage Reference: Auto
    CPU Spread Spectrum: Disabled
    PCIE Spread Spectrum: Disabled
    ---------------------------------------
    C1E Support: Disabled

Use Everest’s System Stability Test (let it run for about 20 -30 min - Keep track of your CPU Temps) and Provide the following information from the Lavalys Everest CPUID

    Core Voltage
    Memory Type
    Memory Clock
    DRAM: FSB Ratio

If your system is stable - make more manual adjustments... Keep track of all your changes for future ref..
    .
    Good Luck....
