Love the SSO-bearing motors but the S12's had just a bad blade design that just DIED with any impedance....P12s have definitely piqued my interest.
i, like many others around here, jumped on the PTS yateloon bargain, but i DEFINITELY want to see how the P12's come out in your formal testing.

i cannot wait! (but my wallet can, and will for that matter).

one thing i dont like about the PTS SL yates is they really make enough noise when mounted very close to any cooled object (in my case, a hard drive rack in my 5.25" bays).
    for the glory of bardob!

I got old 350W PSU before, and i opened it (duuustt everyvhere) and i find a ventilator 120mm, and it was yate loon... So i cleaned it, and it says - D12SL-12, 403. I think thats the low rpm version (it doesnt have yellow cable anyway), but whats the 403 meaning. I tryed it before, and it really is quiet. (like my NB xl2 on 50&#37
Anyone know what the cfm of the fan is, or maybe if anyone owns one.

403 means it was made in early 2004.

    48ish CFM at stock.

For those trying to compare the Yates to the FN121 on a radiator...the FN121 does have slightly higher CFM loss on a radiator but is still competitive and very quiet (though if you look, it is not on my "Radiator Favorites" graph--just didn't make the cut).

<120mm fans will not be tested. I did try some 140mm fans but either my testbed was deterring them significantly (was using 120mm holes with adapters) or they do not perform well. Testbed in Round 3 will hopefully be 140mm friendly

Just want to ask you this Vapor...
In your opinion, wich is the best 80mm fan, in cfm/db?
Having the S-Flex as a reference in the 120mm range for what i'm asking, wich one would be considered the best 80mm? Sharkoon Silent Eagle?

Thank you for narrowing it down for me. Great review. Tough decision though.

Can't decide wether to go with a Scythe or Sanyo Denki for my TRUE and TR HR-03 GT.

Can you put a 120x38 on either? Too heavy?

guess all the 80mm fan users have to use a 80mm to 120mm fan adapter then

I just received 2 Sanyo Denki (1011) thanks to this review, and damn they are huge and heavy, nothing like the Yates i've always used.

One will be going on my Ultra 120 eXtreme

Hey vapor, I think you might be interested in testing the 133cfm Scythe Ultra Kaze 133 CFM version, I find it to be total air noise (no extranious) and @ 2300 rpms it is a big winner in my book. I have no real testing equipment, so I can say for sure, but I would guess a near 95cfm and quieter than any high cfm fan I've ever heard.

Looking at the san ace 4011 ratings I would think that it would be a good contest between the two...

Vapor, BIG thank you for the review and helping me choose new fans and actually being able to put a dBA # to what i'm hearing

The FM122 is the easiest high performance 38mm fan i can get locally, and im loving the fan at 1/4 speed.. im really blown away by the fan.. what more if i order those YL that PT sell.

I don't ever do this...but here's some data custom graphed from Part 1. Sharkoon was also tested in Part 2, and didn't even 'win'

    (5V-12V shown, OA=Open Air while Rad=Radiator test)

As I've said in many places, I hate the FM122.

i was convinced i had the best fan too when i first bought three FM122 back when i first got my TJ-09, my ears would have bled if it wasn't for the headphones. Or the Silverstone fan controller.

Now my sanace R1212H102 works great.

I've felt so special about having San Ace's in the US but now everyone is gonna clamor over them . I loved the fact that at full blast the noise they make is actually just the giant whoosh of air and at 5V I can't hear them over my case fans and at 7V they are quite silent as well.

I'm late to the party, but just wanted to say thanx for doing this up.

I'd love to see how the new Noctua P12s do if you just "happen to test them before part 3"...i bought a bunch of them to replace my S12s.

yup i bought some too, 10 to be exact just to revamp the whole casing. first noctua fans that i think are worth that amount of money. How are the S12s ?

wow they are really silent. they don't pwn the minebea 1900rpm in temps but they are very close to match them yet are 10 times less audible.
