Testing / comparing : Intel D975XBX2 / Asus P5B DX ***56K WARNING***

Hi Guys,

I could use some help...I am rebuilding my Intel D975XBX2 system for my 12 year old son. I previously had a SB XFi soundcard in this system which I have moved to my new PC.

Anyway...I have re-enabled onboard audio in the BIOS of the BadAxe2. I am installing a fresh, clean copy of Windows XP SP2. I have reformatted the hard drive during install, etc.

I have re-installed WinXP SP2 twice now.

1. First installed the drivers from the original CD...installation of audio drivers failed. Everything else installed fine (LAN, Intel chipset, etc.)
2. After reinstalling WinXP SP2 again I attempted the newly downloaded drivers from Intel's website. The install of audio failed again.

So what's weird is everything else (chipset, LAN, etc.) installs OK. Only the onboard Sigmatel audio driver install fails.

Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?
