Uhh.. It's an Allied. AKA: Foxconn, Deer, Austin, L&C (not to be confused with L-C.) It's about as bad as you can get, save the occasional Powmax.

Any good place to buy Zippys from?

How do these compare to the Estasis models? Better to go with Estasis since they are easier to obtain?

A word about CoolerMaster Real Power PSUs. I've have had the 550W jobs in my pair of rigs for a while and have no complaints at all with AMD x2 + SLI 7800GTs or E6700 / XBX / 2900XT or even E2140 / P5K3 / 2900XT all pushed to the limit - and all I have to complain about now is that 550W is not enough anymore. My current OC box -

    Q6600 G0
    Asus P5K3 Deluxe
    2GB CellShock DDR3-1800
    ATI HD2900XT
    74GB WD Raptor
    200GB SpinPoint
    Vapo LS

If I prime at 3.6 GHz / 1.428v, no problem. If I prime at 4 GHz / 1.5v, it lasts a few minutes and then crashes fairly gracefully, black screen and no BSOD. Without doubt, the PSU is caving in but does so without fuss and no damage. I've ordered a PCP&C Silencer 750W that should do the job, but my point is really that the Real Power PSUs ain't that bad a bet in my humble experience.

Hi...i just went over the PSU Calculator http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp for a planned upgrade of some parts that are already in my sig. Currently i'm using a Silverstone DA750w, & the additional parts (extra hard drives & more fans) would get me around 740ish watts (based on the PSU Calculator). Do i need to upgrade my PSU? or will the DA750 still handle the new upgrades?

I know the link would only be an estimate, but would it be ok to cut it close?

    Thanks for the help

I dont think those estimators are very close at all.

If they are close, Im sure they take into account that most PSU's out arent rated for near max output at 50C. Many of them may claim 500w, but that may be 500w at 25C. At 40C, that same PSU may only put out 450w, so thats what the calculator may take into account (or atleast it should).

As long as your DA750 isnt close to the rated 50C, it can put out a clean 750w and even a little bit more, maybe 780w peak or so.

Looking over your specs in your sig, I HIGHLY doubt you are over 600w full load, so I wouldnt really worry about it.

    I'm suprised the Odin Pro 550W doesn't support PCI-E 2.0
If I get it now, is there anyway I can mod to support 2900XT or PCI-E 2.0 cards in future?

PCI-E 2 has nothing to do with your PSU. ts a spec to increase the power applied via the PCI-E slot and a few other tweaks (bandwidth etc).

The cards use the same 6-pin connectors (look at the HD38 series)

Sorry, i thought it requires 8 pin connector so how am i going to get that with the odin? For example on the 2900xt?

The 8-pin is part of the "300W PCI-e" spec as opposed to a "150W" or "225W" spec., which just calls for the use of one or two 6-pin connectors. It's a little different category than just "PCI-e 1.0, 2.0, etc."

Thanks. It means my Odin 550W would not be able to support the 2900XT. I hope future cards wouldn't be using those 8-pin connectors and utilize the 6-pin ones instead.

Is there a way to mod the connectors for my Odin to support 2900?

I'm pretty sure the card somes with an adapter, or even less people would be buying them.

    Or.... just get an HD3870

Hey, I have a Spire Modular Rocketeer VI PSU, 600W with dual +12V rails @ 20A each. Here is a review of the unit http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Revi...rticleId=17008. I think that this deserves a little better than Tier 5. I reckon it's at least Tier 4 or 3 material.

Actually, scratch that. It has given me a good run, but recently I have seen voltages drop a bit when the cpu is under load. Usually under load the voltage drops to around 1.43ish. Is that still acceptable? Or is that too much of a fluctuation? I'm thinking about getting a Seasonic or perhaps a TT Toughpower. But I want to know if it is a big deal or not. Like the system stays stable...

So far the cards work fine using 6-pin connectors in 8-pin receptacles. Only OC functions are disabled. But this is easily overridden with a couple ground wires fed to the extra two pins. This is all PSU manufacturers are currently doing instead of implementing the +12V sense that's supposed to be there.

    Here's another 'What should I get ?' question ...

At my location, I can get the following:

    - Tagan 800W
    - P&C Silencer 750W
    - CoolerMaster 850W

    For about the same price.

Which one should I get ? I'm tempted with the P&C because of their reputation.

    My RIG: Q6600 GO @3.6Ghz / 2GB / Asus P5E / 5 HDDs / 8800GTX Superclocked / SCSI Card / Tv tuner card / etc.

    Thanks

i'd go with the silencer 750...

high quality, built like a tank.. only downside is they arent modular, but oh well, i bet you got a spare 5.25" slot to put extra cables away.
