I emailed Gigabyte to let them know that the 7B bios gave me issues, the response is pretty cool.

Question : BIOS 7b only enables 3 cores on my Q6600.

    There response:

    Dear Sir,

Thank you for your kindly mail and inquiry. About the issue you mentioned, please follow the steps below taking off the on-board battery to leak voltage to clear CMOS then try again later.

    1) Turn off power.
    2) Remove the power cord from MB.
    3) Take out the battery gently and put it aside for about 10 minutes or longer. (Or you can use a metal object to connect the two pins in the battery holder to make them short-circuited.)
    4) Re-insert the battery to the battery holder.
    5) Connect power cord to MB again and turn on power.
    6) Press F1 to enter BIOS and load fail-safe defaults setting.
    7) Save changes and reboot the system.

At last, if there is any further question or suggestion about our products/service, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will try to help you to resolve them as soon as we can.

    Best Regards,

Does anyone have a working vdroop mod for the p35-ds3r rev1.0??

Neither shaminos or the other guys vdroop mod works, they both either increase vdroop or drop vcore

Forget about fixing vdroop. Read this fine article to understand the reason...

    And they are rubbish.

and core temp reports the 3 cores around 60C idle.

Lol ??? I posted it, so I would say yes I read it. That post your referring to was with 7B, if you look at the SS you will see I get the same thing on F8, as with 7B... 3 cores. Reset bios makes no difference.

U seemed pretty pleased here, I had no idea that reseting the bios did not help. If fact I find it extremely puzzling why u would say "they are on the ball" when it didn't help. Thanks for belittling me for not checking the names of posters.

Appolagies, no intention of belittling, I thought you was having a dig. I have emailed Gigabyte in the past and this seems to be a standard response from them, word for word. I guess it's hard to pick up on sarcasm in a post. My last 5 or 6 boards are all gigabyte and I just I'm just s bit annoyed with this DS3P.

    Hi guys,

I have a Gigabyte P35-DS3R and I have an issue with my overclock.

My CPU is a e2140 and I have this completely stable at 3.2ghz. As this CPU has a low multi of x8, I am at a point where I need to find out what my RAM will do as I have a FSB of 400x8 = 3.2ghz. Ram is at 1:1 and hence is running bang on its rated 800mhz.

I have seen people hit 850/900 even 1000mhz with this ram, and everytime I try to boot with the FSB even slightly over 400, I will not be able to boot at all. I have NEVER been able to boot with the FSB over 400. I have even put the multi at x6 so I know the CPU can definitely handle it, and I still cannot boot. Its not like it even gets close either...just won't boot at all.

Heres the wierd thing.... memtest @ 800mhz passes every time absolutely fine with whatever volts or timings I like. 5 5 5 15, 5 5 5 18, 4 4 4 12. Also I am Orthos stable in windows with the RAM at 800mhz all stock at 3.2ghz.

I have tried upping vcore, upping ddr2 voltage to its max rated 2.3v, upping pci-e voltage, upping NB voltage, pci lock at 100/101/102, and have tried relaxing timings.

This is strange...anyone any idea why I cannot go over 400 FSB with this ram? Is it likely to be a Mobo issue with running 400+ FSB or a ram issue? I am sure it is ram, as this board is rock solid at 400 FSB and I have heard of it going up to 500 odd FSB.

    Any help much appreciated.

Did you increase the mch voltage or fsb voltage? Try with both. What ram is that anyway? I've never heard of ddr800 to stop dead at 400 mhz rated speed.

Dunno about e2140's but i can't think it has such a low fsb wall. What vcore for cpu?

    What bios version?

Thankyou for your quick reply AriciU

BIOS Version F6 (I am only using this because it shipped with it - otherwise seems fine).

CPU Vcore currently at 1.35 but as I say, I don't think it needs this much to get 3.2ghz stable. Will probably be ok with 1.325 or 1.300. I tried inreasing FSB voltage by one notch as well and dint make a difference. I can try two notches but I would be surprised if it needed 0.2+ on NB just to get to 810mhz! Tried increasing DDR2 voltage as well right up to the max rated 2.3v.

The ram is the ram that all us UK people have been buying at ocuk for dirt cheap! I did research the ram before I bought it though, and it was apparent that it was the least problematic on my board and was good stable ram that was great value for money as it DOES overclock ok as well. Its commonly used ram over here.

I have a e2160 and I believe the fsb wall is around 395fsb, its not a newer m0 but an l2. I have run it at 375 x 8 with ram at 1125Mhz with 2.1v but since one of my ballistix pc6400 stopped my pc booting; now got a new kit (will RMA borked 1 later) 333 x 9 and 800Mhz 444 12 24. Its a 66% overclock not "extreme" but Ive only got aircooling and little patience for unstable PCs.

You have Geil Ram, for anyone wondering:

I had to up them because of the vdrop and vdroop that my P35-DS3R suffers from I believe. I have a problem though, my Geil 2x1gb ram will not run past 400 FSB (800mhz). i've tried everything and would like to know what my e2140 can do, but I can't push further as its only a x8 multi, and the ram would need to be able to keep up with the FSB at 1:1 and it doesnt like it. I thought this ram would easily overclock a little but it does not seem to like anything over stock 800mhz despite being mem test, superpi and orthos stable at stock and cpu @ 3.2ghz.
    Any ideas?

You didn't say wha ram it is mate I haveno idea what's popular in the Uk. If it's the Geil from my sig then that's ok for up to 510fsb with 2.2v

Anyway, i've heard that e2140's need little voltage for 3.2 then you have to reallycrank it up. I'd say go higher with the vcore... 1.35 is too low IMO.

My e6750 needed only 1.375 to get to 3.2 but i had to crank it up to 1.52 to get it at above 3.3...

    Also, use f8 bios.

Sorry for spelling... space key on phone sucks.

Why F8 BIOS, I have heard of issues with that one?

My ram is DDR2 Geil PC6400C4 Ultra Low Latency 4-4-4-12 1.9-2.3v. Yes perhaps you are right about it being the CPU. Its confusing as to where the bottleneck is, because surely it is not the CPu as I have lowered the multi down to x6 @ 410 FSB (which would only be 2.4ghz) and it still has issues. So seems ot be motherboard or ram. Maybe the board needs more FSB voltage?

Is it possible that to run high FSB of over 400, I would still need higher vcore despite that the CPU would easily be able to clock to the resultant clock speed with lower vcore? i.e. Is there a relationship between achieving high FSB and vcore assuming a CPU was well within the limits of its clockability?

Any reason not to use this F9 BIOS for this reason the? Is it still stable or worth sticking to F8? I am on F6 currently.

    for my ds4 rev2.0
f9 throws error under memtest86+, I didn't experience other problem
f8 is very stable, no error
