    Exclamation

Recently had a phone call to ASUS - X38 & 333FSB CPU's have problems with 0803 BIOS - AI suite can not be installed or crashes after install and Prime95 does not run - even at stock settings it crashes when it jumps from loop 1 to loop 2...... - so someone tested to install AI suite with the new 0904 BIOS (but plz with a 333FSB CPU !!!) or ran prime95 with this constallation?

    Reports welcome !

    If nothing works nomore......:

the bios 904 runs like the 803 with my quadcore q6600 an dominator 1800.
the temps are better. from max.74 to max.67 .
on the striker extreme i have the same temps. perfect.

but i canīt run my dominator 1800 with 1800. the maximum prime stabil is 430x9.
when i test 450x6 and slow timinigs it hangs on at prime and 3dmark but memtest say no errors after 5passes.

    hmm...

    904 are baad for me!

Before i could boot and load Vista at 8x500 DDR2000 atleast, and run some 1m s-pi, but now, it wont even go on 467.. this one is really bad, and on the asus site i only see 702 bios, wich means this is a beta bios aswell as 803..

so maybe the 904 never will see the daylight of officialness......
perhaps Asus puts up their bios on the ftp, and uses us like guinnie pigs

i allready lost alot of fsb against my Commando with the 803, and now its even worse, and i cant see any other or feel any other improvement...

I need more FSB! asus get that ASAP

    regards!

Ezflash has gone to the fishes too..
without doin anything, it just freezes when its detecting hardware.

the usb stick shows up in dos, windows , formatted allready etc etc..
but NOT in the *pip*damn ezflash, had to use afudos with a Bootcd.

will try some more tough, i were never stable 4ghz with this board, now it is?
sacrifice some fsb for the stable 4ghz?

    hmm hm

I found out that the "FSB-Strap to NB" is very important for succsess in this Bios-version.
When I kept it on "auto" it was nearly impossible to get the sys prime-stable ... no matter which voltages are increased or decreased.
I thought I have to go mad !

As last act of boredom I changed this strap-value to 333 and now it´s stable...
so there is also a matter of more or less stable (ram)dividers.

Infa, EZ Flash was freezing on me last night too while trying to flash the new bios. But after I changed USB slots it worked fine again.

this Ezflash are a strange thing, i have flashed several times on this board..
even tried after latest 803, it worked but said older blablal...

and now, without touching the function, i was going to put in the 904, and it doesnt work? hahha ..stuff, DOS ARE the best imo ...

well well, now im in win, typing at 4.2 , 9x467 that i thought never went before, TRIED ALL, but had tRAS at 18, and i changed it for fun to 20, and now suddenly its stable hahha .. these x38 boards are straaaange..

EDIT: think i will withdraw that this bios is bad just that i changed tRAS in bios from 18-20 made everything atleast as i was before..
better i think? will try prime again at 4ghz, it allways failed before at prime on X38 overall.. if it is, then its the thumn up on this.

for benching only, 4.2 cant take no prime

about 1.68-70~ , Hitting 70c in load at that vcore (lowered Mhz but kept vcore)

now im 1.60~ 4.1, and goin priming, and see what happends

the 500FSB are still a no go though, seems like this bios made higher Mhz stable, but took some FSB, well its a way in the right direction anyway

not really had much time to play but seems stable enough , with me i could do 500+fsb easy but with ram at 2000mhz was not 3d stable tried loads of different looser timings higher volts etc but would generally hard lock in 3d benchmarks but lowered ram speed and was a ok , not tried with new 904 bios yet but i'll post if any improvement

gotta sleep now! its late and im been fighting with Ezflash some hours today too, got me really pissed ehhe..took my powers :P

my cpu seems not to play well with this board... yours could do high fsb before you switched to this board?

Cause of all the benching and priming for having a stable-sys I didn´t notice another prob that just occured now.
Sys is stable under prime / good results in super-Pi ... all fine ... but I just started to play a round "world in conflict" (tried other games also ) ... after a few minutes I got a bsd :
"nvlddmkm.sys" which is concerning the drivers for my 8800gtx.
The weird thing is when i clock my Q6600 down to 3GHz all is fine.
    So what´s the matter ?
Should depend on the NB voltage, shouldn´t it ?
but I allready tried to raise to 1,69V ... still the same bsd.

    Any ideas are welcome.

Yes it´s fixed ... never touched those frequency though

I just found out that 4GB-Kits ( 2 x 2GB RAM) are very nb-voltage-needie... but I reached 1,7V now... and the nb should stay lower than 47°C...
and when I think a bit further than prime should also stall and this is the really weird thing about it `cause prime is stable for hours.
    My settings are now :
    Ai Overclock Tuner [Manual]
OC From CPU Level Up [Auto]
OC From Memory Level Up [Manual]
    CPU Ratio Setting [9]
    FSB Frequency [400MHz]
FSB Strap To North Bridge [333]
    PCIE Frequency [100]
    DRAM Frequency [DDR3-1600Mhz]

    DRAM Timing Control [Manual]
    Primary Info; 7-6-6-24-6-48

    Rest is [Auto]

    DRAM Static read control [Enabled]
    DRAM Dynamic Write Control [Disabled]
    Ai Clock Twister [strong]

    CPU Voltage [1,36]
    CPU PLL [1,63]
    North Bridge Voltage :[1.71]
    DRAM Voltage [1.8]
    FSB Termination Voltage [1.4v]
    Loadline Calibration [Enabled]
    CPU GTL Reference [0.63x]
    North Bridge GTL Rference [0.67x]

so where is the need to change or where is the prob???
    I am totally stumped

That NB voltage seems really high for 400 fsb. I can get by with default 1.41 at that speed. CPU PLL shouldn't need to be that high either. Try backing those down while holding prime stability. As for the nvidia driver crash, I don't know that I would be looking at chipset voltages as the culprit. Maybe check the nvidia forum and see what they have to say about that error, IIRC that one is fairly common.

    The thing is :
if I clock down to 3GHz ( 333 MHz ) there is no bsd !
So somehow and somewhere the graphic-card-signal is going to be "corrupted" and my thinking was : the interface to graphic-card is the nb.
In fact I "assume" that with increasing nb-voltage the time to crash in-game is getting longer ... or it´s just randomly.

Anyboby else report freeeze problems with 0803 and later about some applications like prime, Asus AI Probe, Asus Ai Suite?
    I have an E6420 and DDR3 STT 1600 7-7-7.

Please, somebody could post his bios configuration to show the right settings?

Is it possible to downgrade bios to a previous version? There is a metod different from recovery bios with EZ crash recovery utility described before in this thread?

Many thanks to everybody would give a support.

I have already red your post and with 0904 bios there are the some troubles.

I would to hear something about these troubles by the people said that everything is running well with bios 0803, maybe they use some bios settings that I do not know, and they can support me to set well the bios.

Hm, I think best is to keep 0803 and to avoid prime & AI suite yet.

Maybe ASUS will fix it with a later BIOS update. (I hope so!).
