Oh yes it does. My SM X7DAE and SM X7DAL-E both support Harpertown with the latest 2.0a bios..
They just don't support 1600FSB..Boards bluescreen at 394.
I know, I've tested them with DDR2-800FBDimms and they will not do 400..

I didn't test the chips...No Harpertowns here, BUT SM told me plain that they had Harpers working in a X7DAE MB..
Send me a couple Harpers and I will be glad to test them for you..

Well I was originally planning on getting the TYAN S5392 (another Seaburg based system like the Supermicro X7DWA), then considered the Skulltrail because of OC'ing options, but now I'm considering one of the old 5000x motherboards that are in the $200~ range.

My question is because if one is spending say $2000.00 on chips why chinse on the board?
The 5400 seaburg is THE way to go if your building from scratch.
Yup, $500.00, but even a X7DAL-E open box is $300.00 at the egg and almost $400.00 new..
Buy the 5400 even if it's a stretch..I guarantee you you'll be happy you did in 3 months especially if you get 1600FSB cpu's..

I mean the useless crap on server boards, like PCI-X slots (I haven't ever seen anything useful utilizing those ) Also the boot up diagnostic thing that server boards have that slow down boot up a little.

If I do get a dual socket board, it will probably be SkullTrail because, as I said earlier, socket placement is a lot better and allows for easier mounting of coolers

In some instances, possibly, but most games only scale up to 4 cores at the most now (I mean newly released games, 1 and a half to 2 year old games usually only utilize 2 cores), so short answer, no.

If the primary purpose of your system is gaming, then save yourself some money and just get that quad. But if you do CPU intensive applications like intense video and photo editing, and all the like, a dual quad might be worth it.

Or you could be nice and set one of the CPUs to do WCG work while the other games

X7DWA-N I believe is the model you'll want... its the only 5400 board i've seen overclocked yet anyways.

Is CPU producing an error? shouldn't It be LGA 771 not 775?

one would think, but maybe 775's can run two sockets.
