I had to go into maintenance mode after the flash to get the board to boot. But the memory settings stick now. Still can't get the IDcc service to start.

You might have to uninstall idcc and re-install it.

    Maintenance mode or normal?

Should i goto maintenance mode to load defaults? Should i turn on watchdog? Also there are 2 other things with watchdog, should those be enabled? I can now get 11x346 (3.8 Ghz) Corsair 1333 runin @ 1384 with my QX9650 with Stock HSF 8 hours stable under prime 95! I cannot trust auto fan controll though, it lets the CPU get to 73 before bringing fan to only 1800. I think this is a bug as well, fan should be @ 2800 with those temps IMHO. Funny thing is, i have core @ 1.325 (1.22 @ load), with power slope on, and running at 65c with full fan. With my other QX9650 on the Asus Maximus Extr. i am getting 60c CPU temps with 1.45 volts (1.38 @ load), and same multi, fan speed and FSB. I think the DX38BT temp readings are a little high.

I was going to try to push the memory, but since i am a NEWB and GTJ said he fried his ram, i am going to hold off.

Yep, go to maint mode, load the defaults, then turn off the watchdog. You can turn on the "QST" option (I think that's what it's called). Then set all your overclocking options.

Which temps are suspect? If it's the core temps, the board has no influence on them. They're read directly from the CPU registers.

I didn't fry any RAM on this board or any other. The first Corsair sticks I got were defective (chips falling off) and the OCZ issues I had were my own fault for not realizing how sensitive they were. Once I got them dialed in, they've been rock solid. GO FOR IT!!

Ok loading defualts fixed the shutdown problem.

Ok the highest core temps (1 and 3) are lower than the CPU reading by about 3-5 degrees. I wish the auto-fan controll was more agressive, i want a quiet pc when it is ideling, but i want cool temps at full speed. I have tried the settings in the IDCC but they are screwy.

I thought when you said you were not aware of the OCZ sensitivity, i thought you meant it was toasted

Another thing i have noticed, prime95 seems to produce more heat and complete ram usage, beter than anything else so far. What do you guys think about the burn-in program from intel?

What is a SAFE core temp for the QX9650? It looks like the max temp in the spec sheet is 65c, which is hard for me to obtain @ 3.8 Ghz on the DX38BT, but easy on the Asus ME (including core temps).

The Asus ME has some serious RAM problems at 4 slots full though, havnt had a successfull set of ram in the ME @ 4 slots yet even at no OC. Where are you oh perfect motherboard! (975XBX2)

Are you sure you have applied your thermal paste correctly ? I get no higher than 45C or so with mine @ 3.4 at load.

Mine is @ 3.8 Ghz, i have re-applied the paste as well, because that was my thought also. Anyway, i found out soemthing about IDCC. You have to run it on a clean boot, before you attempt to start any other monitor program, ANY! Wait awhile for the service to start before trying to run IDCC.

IDCC. Voltage, and fan control works, YAY! I have no clue why the temperature works reverse... that is laughable!

So if you want the fan to turn on at a lower temp you set it to turn on at a higher temp... Its reverse temp... Or temp to fried cpu... weird stuff...

The BIOS update fixed my IDCC issue.

I wish Intel would just put in the temperature ranges. At least on the BadAxe2 version, the temperature limits would show up on the thermometer scale so you could see them show up and move as you were setting them.

    Attn: GTJ

OK i have my DX38BT stable 24 hours prime 95 on blend (this seems to be the hardest workout for my cpu, and Ram, i tried 4 different stress tests). QX9650 @ 3.7 (10x370) Stock HSF 63c on core 1 (hottest temp during run) 1.3 VCore, 4gb Corsair 1333 @ 1480 (ones with the big ass heat sinks, stock voltage and timings). I think this is my everyday runner.... Unless....

GTJ please oh guru recommend the best damn water cooling system on the market, price is not a concern, (Ive dumped over 9K on these things this month already, so wtf)

I wanna try water cooled, i think I'm gonna replace my 8800ultra with one of those water cooled BFG Tech BFGR88768GTXOCWCE GeForce 8800GTX. And get the best cooler for the CPU. Do i have to watercool the chipset? IF so please recommend one for that as well.

I have gotten to 10x370 by ONLY changing the CPU voltage a little, i will have to research FSB, DRAM and such voltages before i go higher i guess. I am amazed my 1333 ram is stable at 1480 without touching any voltages or anything. I may get another set of corsair 2gb 1600 for my DX38BT.

I am kinda freaked that my other QX9650 in the Asus ME (with the 2 2GB 1600 corsairs) runs so much cooler with more volts and speed, but i tried this one on that MB, and got hot temps as well, they really do change from chip to chip. I can push that one to 3.8 stable with Stock HSF, and this one i can only push to 3.7....

In the process of all this i ended up with Extra stuff... a brand new DX38BT i havnt even opened. An Asus P5E3 (which blows chunks! It cannot handle ram, any kind, more than one stick. I think its a Defect). 4 sticks of OCZ DDR3 Plat 1333s (bought for the P5E3 which DIDNT work.)

I also have the P5E with 4 GB of Kingston DDR2 1600, and a unused X6800, is the X6800 a worthwhile OC chip???

Anyway, GTJ im awaiting your rply i wana next-day this stuff from newegg, or (insert the vendor of choice for the WC unit here), for tuesday.

Running 10 X 380 stable with a minor voltage bump to 1.3. Temps still do not exceed 45C on any cores running P95.

Oh boy. I'm on the spot now.

First, I'm NOT a water cooling expert. My 3 main rigs are cooled with chilled water but I built the chiller from a window AC unit so the only components I bought were the waterblocks. Speaking of which, for the CPU the Swiftech Apogee GTX and the D-Tek Fusion appear to be the front runners. I've been sticking with Swiftech just "because".

You actually don't need to cool the NB at all. At 370 FSB and stock vMCH, it's not really working all that much harder than normal. A small chipset fan wouldn't hurt and since the mounting for the X38 is new, it'll save some hassle trying to get a waterblock that fits.

For pumps and radiators, I'm going have to point you to the watercooling forum. I just don't have a clue and don't want to give you any flaky advice.

    Also, check out Petra's http://petrastechshop.com/

The BIOS definitely has some annoyances but from a performance standpoint, I don't see any issues. I had the board dialed in perfectly, then added 2 more sticks of memory and all I did was up the vDIMM one notch.

Actually, I'm kind of in a quandary. I'm stable at 450FSB so now what do I do? I need to put this machine in service but I was telling myself that I need to keep tweaking (I.E. playing with) it for a while longer.

Funny things going on. I haven't even started overclocking yet.

Q6700 (2.66GHz/266FSB) with Qimonda 1066 8,8,8,20 worked just fine. If I put in Qimonda 1333 8,8,8,24 the board won't boot. It won't even go into maintenance mode. Not even with 1 stick of 1333.

However, I can go into maintenance with a 1066 stick in slot 1, and 1333 sticks in the other slots, and the board sees them and reports them. I tried going in and manually making changes instead of Automatic by SPD. Then I replace the 1066 stick with a 1333. Still nothing.

Running latest BIOS. Any ideas? I've got plenty of sticks of 1333, so I know they're not bad.

I would think "voltage" but I don't see a lot of info on Qimonda DDR3 memory.

Decided to give Crossfire a try with a pair of 3870's. Just got done putting my 8800gtx back in. I broke 20K on 3dmark 06, but gaming - Crysis and GRAW2, run poorly with a ton of issues.

This board picks up the cards with no issue, and they are definitely operating in crossfire mode. A lot of screen glitches, and some Vista errors on the driver install. I combed high and low for some support tips, but everybody seems to have some type of unresolved problems with these set-ups. Tried so many combinations of drivers and patches my head was about to explode.

These are VisionTek cards, and I called them for support, but the tech I got didn't seem to know what Crossfire was ? He suggested RMAing one card at a time to see what one as fault. When I asked him some questions about the bridges, he said those were at fault. I think both cards were operating fine, but the driver and game support is just not there.

Popped my GTX back in and everything runs great again.

    Intel Warranty

Is there an easy way to obtain authorization for motherboard replacement?

My BoneTrail has a memory socket that generates errors in all the memory
test applications when a module is installed. I would like to get a cross shipped replacement, if possible.

The Intel website support is not very helpful......

    Any hope???

I have heard that Intel is very speedy ( 1 week) about thier RMA process, but I doubt they cross ship. I bought mine through Tiger Direct, and they give a no questions asked 30 day return. I just bought another one, and when it arrived I returned the bad one.
