I run a Fortron Continuous Power Filter & Spike arrestor, cost big bucks but gives me some peace of mind, possibly a wise investment for you.
Trust me i will be looking into that ..arrestor!...It was real windy/only a small westcoast storm and the substation (PG&E said had distribution problems)The Station was over spiking tripping nieghborhoods left and right from what the firechief nextdoor said when a tv caught fire!..Id like to go balistic but it wont help me in any way but ....to replace my stuff and life goes on...so Im card hunting for cheopo GTS and when Pg7e kicks back or Home Owners.. Ill grab a nice vud and maybe a BE Phenom if it comes out soon....i INSTALLED I HIGH IMPACT gif ON THIS pC AND IT WORKED.....I had forgot i changed the wALL OUTLET COULDNT FIGURE OUT WHY THIS ONE DIDNT GET SCREWED UP LOL..

We get bad storms here and ive never lost any device in 18years of overclocking in storms or let alone windy weather this is a first for me....

right so the station just went spastic, thats shocking but think how much power those things run ive seen a video of one go up & fark it looked insane. i have seen some really dodgey photos of inside power stations like these transformers that were constantly overloaded to supply the grids they wrapped towels around them & had a garden hose gently running water onto the towels to keep them cool of course they eventually went up bigtime but yeah theyre not always well made. ive never lost anything big either, i lost 1 psu to lightning (rest of pc ok) and my mate has lost a tv - incidentally the elec company reimbursed him for it.
what is a high impact gif? maybe get others for your other stuff if it saved the pc running off it.

Yes it hurt....I think i found the cards problem ?

I used a magnifying glass to view the resistors and found a PWM that had fresh solder melted under it...Ive read of people removing faulty PWM's and the card would run at default speeds...At least this was on 7900GTX's that had simalar failures...can anyone confirm this....

If i were to remove the PWM that is circled would the card default ..I think this is the 3 phase power but not shure...Where the line goes thruogh the circle is the melted solder..al other PWM's have no melted solder there...Every thing else seems to be oK....had power Outage and this all i found...My Mobo and everything else tested out OK..So thats a plus Its not like i can do a RMA..Since this card i polished the IHS and cut fan shroud...Its a BFG...i was gonna call em , but i think im outa luck....

looks like the first phase from the power connector....probably copped it all. bugger. id tell them you had it on water and sold the original heatsink & shroud when it was no longer needed and that you will be just sending in the card itself. that should be ok.

No matter what they do not Honor waterblocks or any other cooler....Although they sell Cards with waterblocks....

Well For w/b's and aftemarket coolers EVGA is Number one regardless....Then XFX ..Even though i returned a Alfa a few days ago ,they are Way high on the Good Card list.........Ive always owned EVGA and will no longer buy another brand! The Bfg was a second pick buy way back when you couldnt find any EVGA 320's..Like how the GT card shortage was..

So maybe i can fix it.....Im curious but if its three stage power and the PWM that burnt is maybe the first stage/low power ...Couldnt i bridge it and just make it work on the next power level or Always High like in 3Dmode....Im just guessing so any option/Idea/possiable fix would be great ..Except the Garbage can This isnt my only card so i want to mess with it

just get the numbers off the chip and search for one online or on another vid card or a motherboard and replace it. then test it to see if it works. that would be my first choice in fixing it. then if it dont work try searching closer on the card if you dont see anything then buy a new card.

Mine does too....I wish the memory would go higher ive only be able to sqeeze 2250mhz @stock heatsink and no mods..Still testing will be posting some easy mods for the 512mb once im done measuring some stuff..When ever i do a mod , I like it to be 100% for others or I wont bother posting the success of it
