spending 3000 dollars on a pair of chips that will have zero resale value and will be outclassed by nehalem in just a year or so seems like a wise decision.

    nonetheless, impressive.

That is the world we live in so get used to it.
Gone are the days of having the "top" machine for 2-3 years while the companies rolled out the next lineup.
Today you get a year maybe, and this is the price you pay if you want to be at the top.
There are always cheaper, lesser machinery available but if you think that way of what is coming you will never get the best as you'll be too busy thinking of what will be coming out..
Is there an answer? Yes, your attitude, desires and financial abilty dictate what you do.
For me it's buy the best, then skip a generatrion, then buy the best again.
Always at or near the top and in the interim year I've still got a great system.

Yepp. No point in sitting around waiting for the next best thing all the time.

Except, it actually makes sense to wait for once now NVIDIA D9E and yet to be released Yorkfield!

Wait why does it say Socket 775? I thought Skulltrail and QX9775 were Socket 771? CPU-Z misreading?

Movieman you missed my point my friend. Skulltrail is not the top, its something beyond the top, which will only be available in limited quantity, because fortunately there are only a handful of people stupid enough to buy it. Its one of those elite things that you will pay twice as much as it should cost, and will lose value much faster than anything else. So my point is that its not the top, its something in its own class, the class of retards with way too much money and way too little brains. Dont take any offense in this, I know you can get a bit defensive about skulltrail (you and your multicore... you should see a psychiatrist), but just pause and think about it. I have no problem with people buying QX chips, or spending 800 dollars on a kit of ram, or buying 2x the latest and greatest video cards, and so on. Those things always have resale value, and dont become expensive paperweights. But Skulltrail is one of those things that will cost you boats of money, and will end up in the gutter just like Quad FX.

@ Naekuh, thanks for the nice words aigo (im guessing its you...)

Everyone is ending up in the gutter for the next generation

Nehalem is using a new socket all across the board, so everyone who wants one will probably buy new components

But was that 4.8 Ghz on each core using normal cooling methods (ie, consumer heatsinks, water blocks or basic phase change) and not some esoteric short term LN2/Dry Ice/Cascade contraption ?

I'm just waiting.... waiting.... can't find it in stock...
