I called up Asus tech to enquire about this same issue. I wanted to know whether the board was utilizing the 12v+ rail or the 3.3v rail? Person asked me to hold and came back after about two minutes and said it uses either - which wasn't a straight answer of course. But I always pinned it to the 3.3v rail for my failures at high voltage. As some have already pointed out, it could be this EPU thing. I wonder if a bios update would fix this issue.
