I don't remember where I read it, but nvidia do it on geforce 7 series.

But some people are testing on the forum.

    Hi!
I have a twintech 8800gt, and I tried the 8800gts bios mentioned some pages before and today the gigabyte 8800gts bios from mvktech.net. The bios flash was successfull and then you need to install the 8800 gts 512 driver from nvidia drivers manually(I used 169.21). When I restart the system freeze or the cursor moves slowly in desktop and I have ARTIFACTS. This mean the extra shaders are ENABLED, but there are some kind of protection(software or hardware) or the extra shaders are faulty. I remember when we tried to do the same with the radeon 9500 @ 9700, the extra pipelines was enabled but if there was faulty you had artifacts, but the system was'nt freeze, you could run benchmarks with artifacts or without if you had a not faulty core.
The freeze is because of the protection or the laser cut I think so maybe the extra shaders are not faulty, we need a way to remove the protection or connect the cut if possible.
People have both GT and GTS can look carefully arount the core to see if some electrical trace are cut in GT?
Here is a photo of the artifacts.

Were you able to flash back to GT bios and run 3d without problems.
