Giorgos, thx for the bios. I tried your bios, and it works like charm
With original bios, i managed to oc my card to 710/1800/2000.
Tried 1.1v i get 755 on Core. After that i tried your bios and now i have 755/1900(1890 Real modus) on core ( havent tried to up this yet, since im pretty happy for now) and shader. However the Gaymonda would not allow me to go over 2000..., even with the pencil mod applied.

Just tried yesterday with 169.21 still the same. But I have something weird. After I flash the card, I can't install the drivers because it said that my card is not recognize.

When I check the device id through win XP device manager I get PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0610&... (not sure for the vendor id, I'm not in my house, bu it is not the problem)

And when I check in the .inf of the driver, it says 8800 GTS 512 should be DEV_0600. Also when I check with nibitor it says the device id in the bios is 0600

So what I do is I edit the .inf and replace 0600 by 0610. after that it installed but I'm not sure if it really works or not.

When I did that with 169.06, it only froze when I started ATI tool but now with 169.21 it freezes even on the Desktop after ~1 min

Anyone knows what is this device id and why windows shows a different id from nibitor ?

EDIT: The flash was made with the XFX 8800 GTS 512 bios. You can find it on mvktech.net. My first attempt was with NVIDIA bios and I had the same problem.

I think the idea is to unlock the extra stream processors on the G92 core. The 8800GT has 112 out of 128 enabled.

we still have not established whether the SP's are physically disabled or not.

If you think about it, the 8800GTS320 was A1, the 8800GTS640 with more SPs was an A2 chip.

Both of these GTs are A2 revisions so there is a chance.

There may be some form of software (driver) protection that we dont know about.

All the gpu's have at least 128sp's made. So what happens if you try to activate a SP that is defective? You get checkerboard effect. But that's not waht we're seeing here.

Where did you get the info from that they are laser cut?

I don't remember where I read it, but nvidia do it on geforce 7 series.

But some people are testing on the forum.

    Hi!
I have a twintech 8800gt, and I tried the 8800gts bios mentioned some pages before and today the gigabyte 8800gts bios from mvktech.net. The bios flash was successfull and then you need to install the 8800 gts 512 driver from nvidia drivers manually(I used 169.21). When I restart the system freeze or the cursor moves slowly in desktop and I have ARTIFACTS. This mean the extra shaders are ENABLED, but there are some kind of protection(software or hardware) or the extra shaders are faulty. I remember when we tried to do the same with the radeon 9500 @ 9700, the extra pipelines was enabled but if there was faulty you had artifacts, but the system was'nt freeze, you could run benchmarks with artifacts or without if you had a not faulty core.
The freeze is because of the protection or the laser cut I think so maybe the extra shaders are not faulty, we need a way to remove the protection or connect the cut if possible.
People have both GT and GTS can look carefully arount the core to see if some electrical trace are cut in GT?
Here is a photo of the artifacts.

Were you able to flash back to GT bios and run 3d without problems.

Are the engineers at Nvidia prohibited from talking about this due to NDA?

im pretty sure the shaders are laser cut, if somehow we can unlock them, the 8800GT will go down as the best GPU ever created, as far as all around price/performance/modability............so far i love mine......cant ask or anything more for $270

We´ll have to wait if somebody else is going to flash GT with GTS bios.

Ok, I have just flashed my sparkle card with the Gigabyte GTS bios from MVK tech and its gone fine. I did change the clocks to stock GT clocks first with Nbitor.

I had to change the Device ID in the drivers to get them to install.

And it looks like it made no difference, the extra processing pipes seem to still be locked.

I did leave the GTS volts as they were, so I will try overclocking now

What is the default voltage of the 8800GTS bios? Even if the SPs don't get enabled, if I can flash without problems just for the extra voltage, I'd do it.

    1.15v

But I have no DMM to test if that is what the card is getting.

I am going to try to get the bios to work so you do not have to mod the drivers, if I can then I will post it.

so what if you adjust the memory timing to match the GT timings and clocks, try that?
