im gonna be on this all freqing day

ive been playing about and lowered some of the Advanced Timing Control latencies ...i havent a clue what they do other than speed something up

as i keep saying im on stock cooling but im hoping i can just up the multipler and cpu volts when i get something cooler . yeer right that easy ..pthh

    ****edit
EVERY BOARD HAS ITS OWN SETTINGS ( these were not very stable i was just testing various stuff.

please do not copy these and think they will work on your board......it takes days ..weeks to get the best out of your board.

edit: forgot where i found this now??>>

Intel Turbo Memory (512MB or 1GB) is a new primary PC component, along with the CPU, chipset, and system memory. It caches large amounts of frequently used data for faster access by the processor. This decreases the need for hard-disk accesses, saving both time and power, which equates to increased performance and energy efficiency.
That's good news for users who run data-intensive software like media applications. It's also a good match to the substantial system requirements to load and run Windows Vista.
Intel Turbo Memory is a single solution that accelerates data transfer both to and from the processor. Other commercially available products support only one-way data caching.

i had my precharge delay down to '6' and passed memtest fine ..and was running sweet on prime in xp afterward, but i noticed the mouse was very jittery ...so even if prime is running and passing it's not tell you everything .like you might be rendering/encoding something one day in a 3d package and want to do some other work or listen to music at the same time?

So i raised the precharge up to 8 and the machine was running sweet over prime95...i even played an uncompressed video file(something like 1gig for 1 min of footage) full screen over prime95 haha.insane.

    Thanks all for the support.

I am happy enough with my 3.6 Ghz, i don't think i will notice the few more Mhz, it's only measurable.

I will try to twek the vcore a bit and see how low it can go. Now i am on 1.47 V.

I exchanged my Maximus Formula SE for the Gigabyte X38-DQ6 board today. This will be my first Gigabyte board, I have just a few quick questions:
    1) Is F3 still the best bios to date?
    2) Will the board boot out of the box with my QX9650?
    3) Can I update bios from a thumb drive or do I need to hook up a floppy?

I will be pairing this board with 2GB of Corsair Dominator PC8500, Crossfire HD 3870's and an Enermax Galaxy 1KW PSU

    1) For me, F6b and F7d work best. When flashing from F3 you must clear CMOS right after the update. Some people still prefer F3, so I think it's best you try by yourself.

    2) Yes.

    3) You can use a USB stick. The stick only can get recognized if "Legacy USB storage detect" is set to "Enabled", but that's the default setting. After entering BIOS press "F8" to enter Q-Flash and select the BIOS file.

My vendor told me that they heard that it could be bios related. Just wondering if other has experienced the same as me. thanks in advance. (sorry for bad english)
I've had the same problem, so now i'm trying to get my bgears b-sndpirer to work.

I've also read of others having a problem with optical out now working on these boards, so i think it's probably a defect.

I'd just recommend getting a sound card anyway, b/c the 889a version has a lot missing from a normal realtek onboard solution.

If anyone could answer my post about my sound card i'm having trouble installing, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Optical on the gigabyte

hey there is a SPDIF connector on the actual board , a black socket should that connect up to something? maybe that is where the cd rom connects to the motherbaord? cd roms need a special cable sometimes. maybe not that helpful.

i did give a fair few suggestions about the optical out ..skip back a few posts to one of mine. did you read it ? or am i being to obvious with the suggestions i gave????

The thermalright ultra120 extreme just fit in my antec nine hundred, and the margin is very small to it touches the door.

It hangs past the edge of the motherboard by about 12-15 mm.
Fits ok though, although i had to remove the side case fan or i couldnt put the side on the case.

Drivers for the onboard SATA II controller chip, it's Gigabyte branded but made by Jmicron JMB363, they control the purple SATA porsts and the IDE connector.

Where is everybody getting the F7(x) bioses from?
I can't see them on the Gigabyte global site, only F6B for X38-DQ6.

The links I found in this thread to these bioses just drop out...

Check if the LED of optical sound is ON. It have to light up during the POST.
From an italian forum, I know that a stock of this MB has the optical sound out not working.

It seems from tests of italian people, that it is not a BIOS and/or driver issue but a real hardware fault in the MB.

    hi

wondering what model system case fan people are using? the 4pin or 3 pin version?

i tried a standard 3 pin in the ,sys fan2 socket over the other side by the pci socket and the pwr_fan and north bridge fan but cant get speedfan or the Gigabyte software to lower the speed to quieten it down. or even the cpu fan

its blowing a gale and i'm only runing 2.8 x4 ghz

its so cold where i am i could unplug them all and still get under 30 c using prime95
