Phase is much less about mass then it is about the amount of refrigerant in contact with the copper. With a 3mm base that evap should work really well, provided you can get it machined. The design is public by the way so if anyone wanted to machine it i'd have no quibbles.

Quickly sketched some evaps. Sorry if this is in the wrong place. i did a search for "evaporators" and this came up as i do not want to make a new thread. If this is frowned upon, i will edit posts and start new thread or pm somebody. These are the designs: considering making from aluminum. A little economy evap perhaps?

    Any obvious suggestions?

Well, again, the aluminum evap has been tried and those whose did it, FUGGER and Chilly1 stated that the aluminum wasnt strong enough, and that it balooned out. Try it if you want but economy shouldnt mean explosive

Something brainless, simple... It's for GPU and I wanted to see how each varients (little differences on each of them) handles Going to surface bottom later to thousandth and than sand blast it.
I need to figure out better feed rate and depth, etc as I am sure it can be done twice faster than how I am doing it. (for one g-code isn't optimized.... but I ain't bothering rewriting it till I get something I will stick to for a while).

    Think it looks better now. Wonder if I will have enough time to braze it up before I have to drive to LAX... -_-;

bottom has been milled to what seems to be less than 1 thousandth accuracy... easy lapping yes!.. than whole thing sand blasted and than cleaned in 99.9% alcohol bath with ultrasonic cleaner to make sure no contaminants remains. These alcohols are getting expensive and I might have to make distiller like Michael does :P

    those look amazing jin......
I think the one with more surface area will be better, but who knows? maybe the one with more mass will be better

No taig. I splurged a little more than Taig. It's Sieg SX3 converted mill. About 3x-5x havier mill. Probably will replace to Tormach once mill recovers it's initial investment cost

o its the x3? i thought it was the x2 for some reason, thats why i was amazed at price. Thats an excelent machine Do you mind if sometime you post some pics of your sandblasting outfit? (not your outfit lol but the actual sandblasting part)

    Keep it up.

P.S. have you ever considered getting a 4th axis on there? like a cnc rotary table?

I have 4th axis... Just don't get to use it much to be honest. (got it thinking I will end up doing some variant of spiral design)
The mill basically has pretty much all options I can think about putting in. It's just tool change is taking too long that's one major reason I would like to move onto something... bigger... won't happen for a while though. (it kind of goes 2 ways... for small run and prototype, this is great but for production, I can't deal with all the noise I am getting throughout garage - the compressor is pretty loud and combined with mill, cold air gun, and vacuum running to suck the chips, it's bothersome even with ear muff on).
Honestly, if I will run production in this small area, I will eventually need scroll compressor which isn't cheap, something at least tormach kind of easiness on tool change, etc. Net cost of something around decent family car. Yeah, easier to outsource for that much money (well even this setup costed economy car cost or maybe tad more in whole).
Sandblaster is something I really went cheap at HF... For all the tools we talk about good air compressor in range over $1500-2000 do become requirement unfortunately. (especially cold air gun)

PS) Hmm what do I wear? Nothing other than the EO mask thing. It's sand blast cabinet... Since it is cheap even with vacuum on, it leaks small amount out and I do wear mask to make sure I am safe...

PPS) If you are interested in getting Sieg SX3 converted mill, now is time. There will be about 20-30% price increase in US for many reasons (one being weak USD) in coming year.

Jeeze jin, you are really hooked up Yes i ment cabinet. I am actually more interested in a converted x2 mill, my budget is running tight now. From october-january i will have spent about 3 thousand dollars or so on various projects.... need to slow down!

Thats awsoem! cnc 4 axis, didn't know that it was included! Is there a point to yoru lathe with a rotary table?

Keep up the awsome projects jin!
p.s. the sandblasting cabinet did a great job on those evaps!
