Heh, if I could afford the DDR3 I would. I'm quite happy with the performance of my G.Skill 4GB DDR2 kit, esp. considering the price. All I want for Christmas is a working motherboard to put it in.

    What a disappointment.

I finally finished my new system based on a Maximus, just to realize that it can't boot with 2 sticks of ram. It only boots with 1 stick on the 4th slot. Tried 3 bios, 2 different mem kits and every possible relaxed timing but this sucker refuses to boot. For now i believe that i'll pass X38 all over...

    Thank God i have a 2nd rig based on a IP35 Pro...

This is where I'm at right now. Moving 120watts of my main psu helped a lot.
Oh, this is 8x480 on the 266 strap! And how about that PC 6400 hanging in there at 1200 (did 1280 cas 4 at only 2.4 volts )

    Edit: Bios 903 of course!

User error. You try upping the DRAM volts? It boots up at 1.8-1.9v stock. Most RAM needs 2.0v minimum to boot.

U jump very quick to conclusions...

Just because i didn't made a list of everything i tried doesn't mean that u can come here and say "user error".

Well if you don't list it, we figure you didn't try it. That's also the slot you can boot up with if you have 2.0v+ RAM and you need to get into the BIOS to set the voltage higher. I have to put 1 stick of my Ballistix in that end slot whenever I do a CMOS Clear to get it to boot and set the voltage. The symptoms you listed would have been caused by leaving the voltage on Auto, so my User Error call was a correct one given the facts.

Now did you do a standard or cross ship RMA? I'm curious about the cross ship option.

So it look like 0903 is the way to go on this board. Anyone had serious issues with 0903?

pure overkill and a waste of money if you ask me

water on the NB (or very good air) is ALL this board needs, the mosfets don't need any more attention and my SB runs cool with passive ramsinks.

    i DO love this board

currently on 0901 with no problems but methinks i will try 0903 too.

I thought that was what XS was all about

    Nice case btw !

I just realized something for ram volatage I always left it on auto , this might be the issues with my overlclock. I'm going to set them at 2.20V and see what happens . Does Crucial have warranty on their ram ?

I have recieve my board Yesterday and I have flash it with the 0903 .

I have some problem when I reboot .

The LCD poster stay on the time clock and nothing happen . I need to turn the power supply switch off and wait for the LCD poster shut down . After that I turn the power back on and start the computer and everything work fine . My computer is 100% stable under Orthos .

Its only when I reboot and I dont know why . Sometime when I go in the bios the LCD stay at "en setup" and nothing happen again I need to shut down the power supply switch .

anyone have this problem ? sorry for my poor english .

Yes leoftw Crucial offer a lifetime warranty on RAM. Those sticks you have are still under warranty upto 2.2v. I would set the Bios to 2.10 for a start as the board overvolts by upto 0.1. Check the actual Vdimm then and adjust from that.

Well, I've paid my one-way shipping and the board is on it's way to ASUS RMA. I'd love it if they could shed some light on what happened, but I suppose I should just be happy if they send back a working board. Such strange behavior, 8 hours OCCT blend stable and then these random shut downs and the eventual crash INSIDE THE BIOS. I could here the little voice in my head, "This means no Christmas". Well, now I get to put it out of my mind for a week or two...since it's various problems have been kind of all consuming. My family will be thankful for the respite.

I´m sure of that.. your body and your mind will thank you too.

in fact renegade.. now that you mentioned it... i was getting to defaults just for a fresh restart all on auto/factory for my new axerams pc1200 (just chose pc-1200 / auto timmings), including dimmvolt, and when i booted i noticed the bios had the dimmvolt at 2.5!!! immediately restarted and had it down to 2.02.

I thought dimmvolt on auto would be a jdec parameter read into the mb from the ram??

crazy, i almost had a faint.

Yes I got 1.02G on my NON-SE board.
My northbridge temps are crazy. 53c load with HR-05 IFX + fan blowing on it.
With my SE board i get around 35-38c load with HR-05 IFX.
Something is strange with my NON-SE board for sure...

After removing the heatpipe thing from the maximus board, the northbridge has an IHS. Anyone removed it?

I can smell something bad about to happen

Edit 1: There are trace wires running close to the edge of the heat sink; you're definitely going to hurt something.

Edit 2: But since this XS, why don't you try pulling on the fusion block after a few hours of orthos, small ffts, and allowing the board to cool.

Well I see one some pictures that people has a "naked" northbridge without the IHS. I´m tired of my 53c load on NB with the IFX cooler from thermaltake.
So I´m thinking of removing the IHS now
